I don’t know about you guys, but I really love this stuff. This breaks down how a CG helmet was placed in the scene floating around in the cabin with Sandra Bullock as she was attempting to figure out how to maneuver the escape pod thing she was in. I’ve done 2D and pseudo 3D work in After Effects, but this is a different world altogether. What’s really remarkable is that though I remember this shot, I had no idea that the helmet in this particular shot was 3D. In fact, if you had asked me about this shot I would not have remembered that there was a floating helmet in it at all. It’s a remarkable level of detail that adds ambient reality to the scene and exactly the sort of thing that made this film so good!
