Writing Hiatus

Writing Hiatus

Short version for those of you who won’t read all this: The MovieByte Podcast will continue, but I’m taking a break from writing.

The written portion of MovieByte is going on hiatus. I really hate to do it. I love writing reviews, and finding news to make witty and/or sarcastic comments about, and I love doing MovieByte in general. But in all candor and honesty (which I always strive for) I have not been able to get any traction with the site. Readership is lower than it has ever been. In fact, I doubt many will read this and even fewer will care. The most visitors the site had last week was…

2014 Christmas and New Year Schedule

2014 Christmas and New Year Schedule

Just a quick note to let you know what you can expect from MovieByte over the next couple weeks.

Today and tomorrow will be typical days for MovieByte. I’ll post a few items of interest to me. Joe and I will also be recording The MovieByte Podcast Tuesday evening for release Wednesday morning (Christmas Eve) as usual. We will be joined by Clark Douglas to talk about The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. As is usually the case, the production of the Podcast will take up all my time and energy and that will be the only thing to come out on Wednesday.

Thursday, Christmas Day, I will be taking…

MovieByte 3.0

MovieByte 3.0

As you can see, I have just rolled out the second major redesign (or third version) of the MovieByte website. It represents several months of late nights listening to music, designing in Photoshop, and writing code like a mad-man — while still working my 40-hours-a-week day job and cranking out a podcast (almost) every week and keeping the site populated with content. I tell you all this so you can feel sorry for me.

I’m kidding, I loved doing it!

Previous Designs

The first iteration of the site when we initially launched in 2012 felt a bit heavy. Oh the site was plenty fast, but I mean in…

Labor Day

Labor Day

Today is Labor Day here in the U.S. I don’t have an exact official calendar of the holidays that I observe for my MovieByte posting schedule. But if I need a break or am extremely busy and a holiday comes along, sometimes I take it. Today is one such day. As you all know, the day to day operations of MovieByte are a one man show — that’s me. I have a lot on my plate and I’m going to use Labor Day to try to get caught up on some stuff.

I hope you guys have a fun day grilling, eating man food, and generally having a great day off. I’ll catch you tomorrow! And thanks for reading!

Happy Fourth Of July!

Happy Fourth Of July!

There won’t be any movie news today because it’s Independence Day and I have things to do! Here in the United States, it’s a day for hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, beer, and fireworks. Normally I would happily partake in all of those — and the opportunity may indeed present itself — but I’ll actually be attending a wedding today first. So double celebration for me: Independence and, well, togetherness.

You all enjoy yourselves, shoot off lots of fireworks, find some cool fireworks to watch, have a beer, grill some man food, you guys know the drill. Have fun, be safe, don’t drink and drive, and…

Thanks to Joe Darnell

Thanks to Joe Darnell

My thanks to my good friend Joe Darnell — who officially left the day to day operations of MovieByte almost a year ago now — for taking the helm of the site for me Thursday, Friday, and yes, even going the extra mile and posting a couple things on Saturday while I took a vacation (I hardly ever post on Saturday in consideration of my sanity).

He did a fine job, with a particularly good op-ed and a review of How To Train Your Dragon 2 that I didn’t particularly agree with, but it was good. If you haven’t had the opportunity, make sure you check out his entries from the last couple of… Read The Rest

What Happened to What to See?

What Happened to What to See?

Just a quick note: at times I’m still trying to figure out both what this site is, and what you guys like about the site. My what to see articles every Friday have pretty much gotten the worst amount of traffic (although they would occasionally spark some interesting and/or frustrating discussion). They take me quite a bit of time to do, and there are other sites that do it better. Indeed the information I use comes from Fandango anyway. And most people probably use an app on their phone to find out what’s playing and what they want to see about five minutes before they do.

So for at least…

MovieByte Podcast Back This Week Talking About ‘Noah’

MovieByte Podcast Back This Week Talking About ‘Noah’

Things got a little crazy and I had to take some time off from the podcast. But we’ll be back tonight with Michael Minkoff and Mikey Fissel to talk about Darren Aronofsky’s lateset film, Noah. I believe we’ll get some great conversation going with both of these fellas on the podcast with me as they each approach things from differing worldviews, but where we are all three Christians. We should have some great things to discuss.

I anticipate the podcast being out and available for your downloading and listening pleasure Wednesday morning so stay tuned!

‘The Wrap’ Goes on Hiatus

‘The Wrap’ Goes on Hiatus

I’m sorry to have to say that I’m going to have to step back from my podcast The Wrap for a while. I may resurrect it at some point in the future, but right now I have to focus on other things. I have enjoyed doing the podcast immensely and I don’t want to stop doing it. But I need to cut back on some things to make room for others right now. I’m involved in several projects in addition to my day job and it’s cutting my time a little short. Obviously, the lifeblood of the podcasting here at MovieByte is The MovieByte Podcast, and that’s not being affected in any way.

The Wrap on the other…

And… I’m Back

And… I’m Back

I’m back (sort of), did you miss me?

I’m working on my top ten top twenty films of 2013 article. Unfortunately it’s not ready yet and I’m still traveling. In fact, this post is scheduled and while you read it, I’ll be on the road.

So I’m back, I’m posting, I’m finding movie news, I’m gearing up for another year of total awsomeness here at MovieByte. Today will probably be mostly (if not all) linked list posts, but that’s okay because I love finding stuff and commenting on it, and I know you guys love it too. So look for some new linked list items coming up today!
