Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

After The Wrap here in about an hour, MovieByte will officially be on Christmas hiatus until the day after Christmas. It’s hard running a website by myself, and I’ve got a lot of work to wrap up, packing, traveling, spending time with family — you know, all that good holiday stuff. So, MovieByte is officially taking some time off.

I want to thank you guys for reading, interacting, and generally being awesome! I really enjoy running the site and I’m glad you all like reading it. I want to take this time to wish each of you a Merry Christmas! However you spend the holiday, I hope it’s a good…

Responsive Redesign

Responsive Redesign

Here it is guys. This is the responsive redesign I’ve been talking about for a couple months. There is very little code reuse from the previous design. I’ve re-factored or re-wrote pretty much every line of code.

There were two primary focuses with this redesign:

  1. Fully responsive, mobile first design
  2. More modern, less heavy design

At the time when Joe and I designed the first iteration of MovieByte, we both really liked it. Event since that short amount of time has gone by the web has changed drastically, design sense has changed a lot, the winds of what looks good has shifted, and…

Chad’s Frozen Review

Chad’s Frozen Review
Chad Hopkins - ChadLikesMovies

I was born and grew up in the 1990s, which means that I was a child during the time period when Disney produced its most successful animated musicals, often referred to as the “Disney Renaissance” and featuring such renowned films as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast (my review), Aladdin, and The Lion King. While Disney has released a few more animated musicals over the years, the quality has generally not been up to the same standards as those set in the 1990s (though I’m certainly partial to their 2010 offering, Tangled - my review), but with Frozen they finally hark back to those…

My Mistake on My Box Office Analysis

My Mistake on My Box Office Analysis

Guys I’m very sorry. You might have taken notice that I mentioned I was sick. Actually, I cannot remember the last time I was this sick. So I’m blaming my mistake on my delirium. This is actually Frozen‘s 3rd week and it’s made $190 Million to date. So my analysis of The Box Office and Frozen in this article yesterday was way off.

I was planning to see Frozen and talk about it with Chad on The MovieByte Podcast tonight, but I am running a high temperature and don’t have a voice. I have no idea if/when I’ll get to see Frozen. Very sorry about my mistake.

As far as the podcast, Joe is going…

No Podcast This Week

No Podcast This Week

Sorry guys. Just a quick note to let you know what was going on. I was not feeling great last night when Chad and I were planning to record, and I have a big deadline at work so I needed to get rested up. Unfortunately, for both of us this week, Wednesday evening was the only one that would work for both of us.

But that’s okay, even though I enjoyed the film we were going to review, it wasn’t spectacular so we’ll probably have just a few minutes discussion about it, then dive into the meat and potatoes of one of the films I’ve been looking forward to most in the next several weeks: Ender’s…

Note on ‘The MoveByte Podcast’ - Rescheduled for Thursday

Note on ‘The MoveByte Podcast’ - Rescheduled for Thursday

This is just a quick note to let you know that there will not be a show tonight. Some unexpected things came up. But, we will be doing a show this week. Tomorrow in fact. Joe Darnell will join me once again to talk about Prisoners. As always it should be lots of fun! So make plans to join us for the live broadcast Thursday evening at 7:00 PM Central. I thought Prisoners was a good film, but as Joe hasn’t seen it yet, I don’t know what his opinion will be. You never know, he might hate it… either way, it will make for some great conversation.

On Not Punctuating ‘SHIELD’

On Not Punctuating ‘SHIELD’
Richard Lawson - The Atlantic Wire

As the September 24 start date of ABC’s new superhero series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.looms, we are increasingly worried about our poor ring fingers. Meaning, do we have to type all those periods every time we write the title of this show?

We’re inclined to say no, to be obstinate in the face of authority. We’re looking forward to Joss Whedon’s new series as much as any dweeb, and have dutifully, painstakingly used the extreme punctuation used in all the marketing materials. But increasingly, the thought of writing out that whole ungainly title, periods and all, every time this show…

‘Th MovieByte Podcast’  - A “Closed Circuit” Recording

‘Th MovieByte Podcast’  - A “Closed Circuit” Recording

You’ll want to be sure to join Chad and myself tonight on The MovieByte Podcast where, among other things, we’ll talk about Closed Circuit.

Of course I don’t know what other news there is to talk ab… OH WAIT! Benedict Cumberbatch as the possible villain in Star Wars VII. We should probably talk about that. Of course, there’s plenty of other things to talk about too and as always, it should be fun to chat with you guys about all the goings on.

Be sure to join us at 7:30 PM CDT!

Tune In Tonight for the Steve Jobs of Monsters (or something like that)

Tune In Tonight for the Steve Jobs of Monsters (or something like that)

Tonight, Joe will reunite with me on the podcast for the first time since… oh, I don’t remember and I’m too lazy to look it up. Anyway, Joe will be back and we’re going to unite in an unholy alliance, two of the most unlikely films to ever be paired, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and JOBS — not necessarily in that order, either. I haven’t actually talked to Joe yet about what order we’re going to do it in.

In any event, I’m sure we’ll both have a lot to say about the Steve Jobs biopic, both of us being someone obsessive about Apple products and the company in general. And it will simply be…

Join us to Talk about ‘Elysium’ Tonight

Join us to Talk about ‘Elysium’ Tonight

I’ll be joined by Fizz tonight to talk about Elysium, and boy do I have a lot to say. I have two columns in my notes, one side is dislikes, which is filled up, the other side is my likes and it’s almost completely blank. However, I’m given to understand that Mike liked the film, so it should make for some interesting discussion at least.

But you know me, I don’t have any opinion about things so I’ll probably just agree with whatever he says… wait, what?!? Just kidding. That’s the alternate universe me.

Tune in tonight at 8:00 PM for a fun disucssion.
