The studio announced today that Daniel Bruhl has joined the cast of “Captain America: Civil War.” The actor is likely best known for his turns in “Good Bye Lenin!,” “The Bourne Ultimatum,” Quentin Tarantino‘s “Inglourious Basterds,” and Ron Howard‘s “Rush.” In both foreign and Hollywood films he’s always a welcome presence, but who will he play here?

Well, Marvel isn’t saying (though Deadline reports Bruhl will take a villain role), so we’re going to leave it you to guess below. But remember, this third installment of the ‘Captain America’ franchise will likely see Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers…

Jason Snell’s Thoughts on the Marvel/DC Upcoming Films

Jason Snell’s Thoughts on the Marvel/DC Upcoming Films
Jason Snell — Six Colors

Two weeks ago Warner Bros./DC Comics got its act together and announced its cinematic counter attack to the success of Marvel’s movies.

The studio announced ten movies stretching out to 2020, including “Batman v Superman” (I think it’s about a Supreme Court case?), “Wonder Woman,” a two-part “Justice League” movie, “The Flash,” and an attempt to repair the damage done by “Green Lantern.”

Today Marvel counterattacked with its own announcement of a movie schedule that stretches out to 2019.

I love being able to link to Jason Snell — who’s writing I have admired for a while — now that’s…

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will grow even bigger than ever before with Phase 3!

At a special event held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took to the stage to announce the full slate for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring a mix of fan-favorite characters along with a number of heroes set to make their big screen debut in the coming years.

And while the confirmation of upcoming sequels to the successful Captain America, Thor, Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises would have been enough to send fans into a frenzy of…

DC Chief Creative Officer Talks About Marvel

DC Chief Creative Officer Talks About Marvel
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

And when it comes to DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, he’s got mad respect for his rivals.

“I love what Marvel does. I’m a huge fan,” he told Buzzfeed, but he’s quick to mention that DC will be taking a “different approach” when it comes to how their characters will co-exist (or not) between their big screen and small screen iterations.

Props to the man for giving credit where credit is due.

“We look at it as the multiverse,” he explains. “We have our TV universe and our film universe, but they all co-exist. For us, creatively, it’s about allowing everyone to make…

‘Big Hero 6’ Trailer 2

‘Big Hero 6’ Trailer 2

It’s a day for trailers here on MovieByte. Now up for your consideration: Big Hero 6. This is certainly our biggest and most expansive look at the upcoming film. Little wonder since we’re sneaking up on the November 7th release date. And it’s looking pretty fantastic. It’s the story of a kid and his robot, and a bunch of nerds fighting a super villain, what’s not to like?

This marks the first collaboration between Disney animation and Marvel Studios. Sure, Disney technically owns Marvel, but they’ve maintained Marvel as a seperate and independent entity so this cooperation is the…

X-Men: Days of Future Past — Review

4 of 5 stars
X-Men: Days of Future Past

Mutation. It is the key to this franchise’s evolution. Normally this process is slow, taking dozens of films, but every once in a while, a franchise’s mutation takes a giant leap forward.

Yeah yeah, so I couldn’t resist putting my own spin on the Xavier monologue, but really, the franchise had to mutate after the third film. Where do you go when the franchise has been so utterly driven into the ground?

A History Lesson

Bryan Singer made two fantastic X-Men films, but then was not available on the timetable the studio wanted for the third so they brought in Brett Ratner.

His film, X-Men:…

Captain America: The Winter Soldier — Review

4.5 of 5 stars
Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Hey look, it’s another Marvel film that’s really, really good. Can I get a nickel for every time I say that? Because if I can, I’ll be a rich man. Someday, Marvel will have some sort of downfall that will be a sight to behold indeed, but that day is not here — nor, I suspect, will it be for a while to come. One of the things Captain America: The Winter Soldier shows us is that Marvel has some very savvy filmmakers in their camp. And I mean savvy on many levels. For starters, this film knows what it is, it knows its place, it knows how to inject humor at just the right spots, and what needs to…

‘The Incredibles 2’ In Development

‘The Incredibles 2’ In Development
Peter Sciretta — /Film

Disney head Bob Iger dropped a big piece of news offhandedly during the Disney Investor’s Meeting today, stating that Brad Bird is working on the story for The Incredibles 2 and that Pixar is also working on a new Cars movie.

No surprise with the Cars sequel; I’m sure they will continue that franchise until it runs out of gas and stops making them money in toy stores and at theme parks. The Incredibles sequel, on the other hand, is big news, and fans should be excited that Brad Bird is involved.

Well it’s about time! I mean, another Cars film: meh. The Incredibles: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY…

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Featurette

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Featurette

I had this in my saved items to post to MovieByte at some point but never got around to it. Then one of our fans on Facebook reminded me of it so I moved it to the top of the queue after watching it again. Even though it’s a couple weeks old it’s definitely worth checking out for some more information, some cast interviews, and some behind the scenes looks at our next upcoming Marvel film.

I’m really liking the look of this one.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ TV Spot with MAJOR HUGE SPOILER!

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ TV Spot with MAJOR HUGE SPOILER!

Seriously guys, don’t watch this unless you want a huge spoiler to be revealed to you. Now, keep in mind this is the official marketing campaign and Marvel has proven themselves very adept with spoilers. And an argument can be made — quite successfully made I might add given how they handled the whole Manderin thing with Iron Man 3 — that if Marvel floats it out there they want you to know because they have something up their sleeves. Still, this trailer contains a possibly huge plot detail that, if it turns out to be true and played straight, I wish I did not know going in.

But I’m TJ, and…
