LEGO Ad: ‘Let’s Build’

LEGO Ad: ‘Let’s Build’

With the LEGO movie coming up, I thought maybe I could slip this in here as related. Just go with me on this, okay?

LEGO usually does such a good job with their ads, and this is one of the better ones even. So many ads these days either sell with sex, or with stupidity, or crazy gimmicks, or flashy lack of substance. Not LEGO. Now, I admit that I may be partial, prejudiced. I loved my LEGOs (yes, I know LEGO says you aren’t supposed to make that word plural, but I’m going to anyway) when I was growing up. LEGOs are awesome. My kids have LEGOs but they are not into them as much as me, and…

Germain Lussier’s Most Anticipated films of 2014

Germain Lussier’s Most Anticipated films of 2014
Germain Lussier - /Film

The movies of 2013 were great and we’re all anxiously anticipating 2015, but let’s not overlook 2014. While the upcoming calendar isn’t packed as full of blockbusters that make film fans salivate, 2014 has some pretty awesome looking movies from several of the best filmmakers in the world. It has its share of massive franchise films too and while maybe they’re not Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Terminator or Batman fighting Superman, I’ll take Christopher Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, Cameron Crowe, Wes Anderson, the Wachowksis and David Fincher any day.

Below, read my top ten anticipated films…

Stephen Colbert’s Brief Appearance in ‘The Desolation of Smaug’

Stephen Colbert’s Brief Appearance in ‘The Desolation of Smaug’

Stephen Colbert was called, “The Biggest Tolkien geek I’ve ever met” by Peter Jackson apparently (according to Colbert), and Colbert has indeed had a self professed life-long obsession with the good folks of Middle Earth. So naturally, Peter Jackson gave him a role in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

What’s that? You didn’t see him in the film, you say? Ahh my young padawan… er… hobbit (wrong franchise), that’s because you were not looking closely enough. In fact, apparently Colbert’s whole family appears in the film, though we’ve only spotted Stephen himself for sure.

Don’t believe me?…

My Top 10… Top 15… No, Top 20 Films of 2013

My Top 10… Top 15… No, Top 20 Films of 2013

Top ten film lists are hard. I started this article with the intent of making a top ten list. I failed. Every single film on this list deserves to be in my top ten. But, there are twenty. What to do? Hey, maybe I just won’t be boxed into the mold of a top ten (or maybe I don’t have the discipline to trim my list, whatever). Maybe I’ll write a top twenty list instead. So that’s what I’m doing.

One item of disclosure however. I have not seen all the films that there were to see this year. Some of the films I didn’t get to see were films I wanted of almost felt I needed to. Some were not. But I…

‘Fast and Furious 7’ Set for April 15, 2015

‘Fast and Furious 7’ Set for April 15, 2015
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Vin Diesel dropped the word on his glorious Facebook page over the weekend that the gasoline fueled sequel will now land on April 15, 2015. Yes, that’s right, yet another sequel has been added to the stuffed box of blockbusters for 2015, though nothing else is currently scheduled on that weekend. Here’s Diesel’s comments about the release date maneuver:

There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come…

Fast and Furious 7 will be released…

April 10th 2015!

A&E ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Blu-ray Keepsake edition

A&E ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Blu-ray Keepsake edition
Erin Strecker - Entertainment Weekly

“Will you tell me how long you have loved him?”

For a generation of fans, Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy, and they’ve loved him from the first time he appeared onscreen in the iconic Pride & Prejudice miniseries nearly 20 years ago. And now that beloved version, also starring Jennifer Ehle, is coming to Blu-ray in a special “Keepsake Edition.”

I am not (too) ashamed to admit that I love this mini-series a lot and it’s great to see it getting the Blu-ray treatment. I have no doubt that my wife will demand the purchase of this for our home, and I will gladly oblige.

Jon M. Chu on ‘G.I. Joe 3’

Jon M. Chu on ‘G.I. Joe 3’
Spencer Perry - SuperHeroHype

ComingSoon.net got the chance to speak with G.I. Joe: Retaliationdirector Jon M. Chu recently and the subject turned to the third “G.I. Joe” film, which is currently in development. Chu says that not only is the world building still coming together, but they have many surprises in store for the fans.

“I love being active in world-building, so we’re working on “G.I. Joe 3” right now. We’re designing tons of stuff, which takes a little bit, but to me, that’s obviously where I like to push myself and where I want to be for a long time and get to know better…I’m excited to bring in new…

And… I’m Back

And… I’m Back

I’m back (sort of), did you miss me?

I’m working on my top ten top twenty films of 2013 article. Unfortunately it’s not ready yet and I’m still traveling. In fact, this post is scheduled and while you read it, I’ll be on the road.

So I’m back, I’m posting, I’m finding movie news, I’m gearing up for another year of total awsomeness here at MovieByte. Today will probably be mostly (if not all) linked list posts, but that’s okay because I love finding stuff and commenting on it, and I know you guys love it too. So look for some new linked list items coming up today!

The Island of Well Known Villains

The Island of Well Known Villains

In this episode as we near the end of 2013, TJ talks about the launch of MovieByte’s responsive redesign and he hopes you like it. Then moving on to real and fun news, ‘House of Cards’ Season 2 trailer dropped online earlier this week. The first season was one of the real TV delights of the year and TJ is really looking forward to season 2. Channing Tatum’s character Duke might be coming back for G.I. Joe 3 even though the character is dead? Is this a joke?!? This week was pretty much all about ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’. As such, TJ wrote a review, talked for over an hour with three other guys on ‘The MovieByte Podcast’ about it, and released a video review as well. There’s a new film coming straight to TV about the ‘Descendants’ of well known Disney villains. Ho hum. Gilligan’s Island is on it’s way back to the big screen and will star Josh Gad. And this is why we can’t have nice things. Peter Jackson, Warner Bros. New Line Cinema, and The Tolkien Estate are all busy squabbling over rights and books and adaptions. This is also why we can’t have nice things. Hugh Jackman is being eyed for a role in the upcoming ‘Pan’ origin story. They would like him to play the part of Blackbeard. While TJ is not into yet another adaptation of Peter Pan, he’s all in on Jackman playing Blackbeard. And of course, find out what to see this weekend. And have a Merry Christmas!
