‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ End Credits Breakdowns

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ End Credits Breakdowns
Joanna Robinson — Vanity Fair

This article breaks down the significance of the two end of credits scenes for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If you haven’t seen the film yet and don’t want to be spoiled, now would be a good time to leave. Also, that’s right, we said two. You didn’t just up and leave after that first one, did you? Shame.

Seriously, my wife and I were actually quite annoyed at the end of the film. In our theater, there was a mass exodus, seemingly just before the final scene even ended. People were clamboring over us to get out. I don’t get it, this is Marvel. It was such an exodus that they turned up the house lights all the way to keep people from trampling each other (they normally don’t do that at this theater). This made it much harder to see the end credits scenes and that was frustrating.

And then, many of those still making their way out but still in the theater acted surprised that there was a credits scene. This is Marvel people, what did you expect? Get a grip!

Here come the spoilers:

Who’s was that guy?

Who was that guy doing all the talking? I’m so glad you asked, that guy has a great name. That’s Baron Wolfgang von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) and he’s here to let you know that HYDRA didn’t die with Robert Redford. Oh sure, Senator Gary Shandling may be under arrest, but a corrupted S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn’t the only plan HYDRA had cooking. Baron Wolfgang von Strucker is going to be a big part of The Avengers: Age of Ultron and I hope they say his full name every single time.

What was that thing?

That glowing object that Baron Wolfgang von Strucker and his Germanic cohorts were looking at significantly? You remember that! That’s Loki’s Chitauri sceptre for The Avengers! He wielded it with such flair! He stabbed Coulson with it! You remember.

I really can’t wholesale quote any more from Vanity Fair lest they send the copyright goon squad after me. Just click on the link and read the whole thing. There’s a lot more analysis in there that has to do with Loki’s sceptor, Quicksilver, the Scarlet Witch, and more. Also some talk about what’s going on with Bucky Barnes (did you know the actor he has a 9 picture deal with Marvel? Hmm).
