9 Things You Didn’t Know About ‘Home Alone’

9 Things You Didn’t Know About ‘Home Alone’

I’m a little late running this now that it’s after Christmas — I had a lot of traveling and crazy scheduling, cut me some slack people! — but I enjoyed it and figured it’s still worth running. I re-watched Home Alone a few days ago so everything was fresh on my mind for this video, so that made it fun as well.

Oscar Isaac Says Not A Lot of CGI Background Is Used in ‘The Force Awakens’

Oscar Isaac Says Not A Lot of CGI Background Is Used in ‘The Force Awakens’
James Hibberd — Entertainment Weekly

More promising evidence that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is relying heavily on practical sets rather than CGI: In an interview with Yahoo News, actor Oscar Isaac said there weren’t a lot of green screens backdrops around while shooting the eagerly awaited film.

“There was a lot of practical effects,” said the Inside Llewyn Davis actor, who is forbidden from discussing his specific role. “A lot of the stuff they actually made. There wasn’t a lot of green screen.”

Obviously there is an incredible amount of green screen and CGI in The Force Awakens compared to, say, Richard…

Honest Trailer: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

Honest Trailer: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

Well now, this really hits the spot. Despite the fact that the film wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected (probably because Michael Bay didn’t direct, but only produced), there were plot wholes wide enough to blow up a semi-truck in (and they did).

Visual Effects Reel from ILM for ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Visual Effects Reel from ILM for ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

In my opinion, The Winter Soldier features some of the better visual effects and CGI we have seen. Why is this? Because during the film, you never once think about tihe effects or notice them — at least I did not. They never got in the way and they served the story.

This effects reel shows just how much CGI and work went into the film. Scenes I hadn’t fully thought of how much was involved. Whole shots composed of nothing but CGI and I never noticed. This is impressive, especially on the heels of The Hobbit series where I felt like the CGI was just a mess. It’s sad that it is too, because I…

Roberto Orci Script Will Not Be Used For Next ‘Star Trek’ Film

Roberto Orci Script Will Not Be Used For Next ‘Star Trek’ Film
Russ Burlingame — ComicBook.com

In a comments thread on a Star Trek fan website, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness writer Roberto Orci revealed that when the studio goes forward with the third installment in the rebooted franchise, they’ll do so without his script.

Orci had been expected to write, direct and produce the film, expected in theaters in 2016, but recently pulled out of directing, reportedly over disagreements with studio Paramount Pictures.

“I’m producing, nothing more or less,” Orci wrote in a comment on TrekMovie, where his username has been confirmed in the past.

This definitely makes this feel more…

TJ’s Top Films of 2014

TJ’s Top Films of 2014

Making a top films of the year list is hard. These things are so subjective, not to mention I have to remember my feelings about the various films I’ve seen this year — and I see lots of films. It’s made somewhat easier by the fact that if I have strong feelings about a film one way or the other, it tends to stick and or come back more quickly when I look over the list of films that were released this year.

There’s also the problem that there are simply too many films that come out in a year for me to see them all when budget and time-wise, I am only able to see one film a week most weeks.…

Benjamin Button Legolas

Benjamin Button Legolas

And now for the review of the Trilogy based on a book, which is a prequel to the trilogy based on three books! This week, TJ, Joe, and Clark review ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies’. While all three liked it in some ways, some liked it more than others. TJ found significant challenges and issues with the films, while Joe has become a heretic and prefers Peter Jackson’s films to the book (is burning at the stake still allowed?). Clark takes a somewhat more moderate position. Listen in to hear them hash it out! Also up for discussion, Justin Lin will direct the next ‘Star Trek’ film which has been set for a release date of July 8, 2016, the sony hacking, and a quick overview and thoughts of the latest trailer for ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’.

Peter Jackson Doesn’t Like Big Franchises and Effects Driven Movie Making. Yeah, He Said That.

Peter Jackson Doesn’t Like Big Franchises and Effects Driven Movie Making. Yeah, He Said That.
Ethan Anderton — FirstShowing

Now that Peter Jackson is done with his overlong trilogy adaptation of The Hobbit, that means it’s time for him to complain about how franchise driven Hollywood has become. That’s right, the man who gave us not just one, but two trilogies based on the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien recently had an interview withMoviefone where he was asked about his desire to return to smaller films, and he said, “I’m absolutely happy to make smaller films. It’s what I want to do…So we want to go back and make some New Zealand stories.” But it’s what he said next that is going leave you raising an eyebrow or…

Justin Lin Will Direct the Next ‘Star Trek’ Film

Justin Lin Will Direct the Next ‘Star Trek’ Film
Kayla Iacovino — TrekMovie.com

After the announcement that Bob Orci would no longer be manning the director’s chair for Star Trek 3, rumors began flying as to who would take his place. Many questions about the switch remain unanswered, but we finally know who will be the next leader of Trek on the silver screen. Justin Lin, who directed ‘Fast and Furious 6′ has reportedly taken over the role.

I have a bad feeling about this (wrong franchise for that language, I know). The spirit of Fast and Furious is not exactly what I want in a Trek film. I have recently been re-watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. There are a lot…
