The Sweet Taste of Nastiness

The Sweet Taste of Nastiness

Join TJ and Joe to discuss the brilliant, intense, wonderful, scary, and generally well regarded film ‘Whiplash’. No matter what you might say or think about this film, you have to admit that it generates some great conversation. Also in the news this week, the ‘Mission Impossible 5’ trailer, rumor of Marvel looking to cast a 16 year old for the part of ‘Spider-Man’, and the Russo Brothers confirmed for ‘Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2’.

TJ and Joe discuss the latest Disney live-action re-imagining: Cinderella. And what a feast for the eyes it is. From the dialog, to the story, to the acting, and even the casting, it’s hard to imagine how Disney could have gotten this re-make more right. Also don’t miss the discussion on the ‘Pixels’ trailer, rumors that J.J. Abrams will come back to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise for Episode IX, Alexandre Desplat possibly scoring one of the spin-off ‘Star Wars’ films, and more!

Join Joe and TJ this week to talk about Will Smith and Margot Robbie’s latest, ‘Focus’. It’s so good in so many ways but the moral ambiguity may leave us all in a bit of a quandary. Ultimately, you’ll have to decide for yourself how you feel about that — after listening to TJ and Joe discuss it of course. And don’t miss discussion of rumors surrounding ‘Tron 3’ gearing up to shoot this fall in Vancouver, the new ‘Daredevil’ Trailer, the new ‘Inside Out’ Trailer, the new ‘Tomorrowland’ trailer, and the new ‘Age of Ultron’ trailer (there are a lot of trailers this week, it’s a regularly old “TrailerByte”.

TJ and Joe are back! And they are pretty sure you won’t catch any deadly germs from an MP3. This week the primary film in review is the wonderfully fun ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’. But of course, they can’t not pay tribute to the death of one of the great actors of our time, Leonard Nimoy.

Writing Hiatus

Writing Hiatus

Short version for those of you who won’t read all this: The MovieByte Podcast will continue, but I’m taking a break from writing.

The written portion of MovieByte is going on hiatus. I really hate to do it. I love writing reviews, and finding news to make witty and/or sarcastic comments about, and I love doing MovieByte in general. But in all candor and honesty (which I always strive for) I have not been able to get any traction with the site. Readership is lower than it has ever been. In fact, I doubt many will read this and even fewer will care. The most visitors the site had last week was…

How ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Should Have Ended

How ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Should Have Ended

Great, as always. Look, I loved X-Men: Days of Future Past, but it was not without it’s plot flaws. Most of the great movies have plot holes you could drive a semi-truck (or three) through. The good ones just make you not care, and I didn’t care when I was watching the film.

I do love how HISHE is becoming a self-aware parody of itself with the super cafe. Great stuff.

Cinderella Trailer 2 (Starring Cate Blanchett and Lilly James)

Cinderella Trailer 2 (Starring Cate Blanchett and Lilly James)

I’m back to thinking that this is not going to be a great film. This trailer really makes it look formulaic and like it has nothing to add to the lore of the Cinderella story. As such one wonders why it is being made. I enjoyed the re-telling of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent’s perspective far more than I thought — but that is chiefly because the film surprised me and was not (as) formulaic as it might have been. I don’t think we’re going to end up getting the same thing here. And the modern song underscoring the entire trailer was very unpleasant. If that’s the way the music for the film…

Jon Stewart is Leaving ‘The Daily Show’

Jon Stewart is Leaving ‘The Daily Show’
Russ Fischer — /Film

The most trusted name in fake news is preparing to walk away from his desk. During the taping of tonight’s The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart told his studio audience that he will be leaving the show. Tweets from those who attended the taping first spread the word, and Comedy Central quickly followed with an official statement. Read that below.

This is disappointing, but not entirely a surprise. Stewart has been at this a long time.

I’m not being (very) facetious or satirical when I ask the question: where will be turn for real news and fearless reporting.

Oh, I know! I know! We’ll get our…

TJ and Joe are joined by Mikey Fissel to talk about the big, fun, and half disappointing, half exciting space opera, ‘Jupiter Ascending’. Opinions are varied, and some love the film more than others. Also, Jon Stewart is leaving the daily show? What?!? And Spidey is coming back to the Marvel fold? Also, pigs seem to be taking flight! And since Marvel is in the news, why not talk about their upcoming Netflix show, ‘Daredevil’? Not to be left out, Lionsgate want to make more franchise films with ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise. Too bad their out of books.
