I was not into the Turtles as a kid (insert gasps of shock and horror here) so it is really hard for me to have an informed opinion on this matter. I mean, I watched the animated show sometimes, and my best friend had the TMNT Nintendo game. But I just wasn’t into those crazy mutant turtles.
But a lot of people are. Those in my age group on down through their 20s or so tend to like those mutant amphibians, so obviously, a gritty movie reboot is called for. Knowing Michael Bay is involved does not help my opinion AT ALL, but at least he’s not directing so I’ll try to give it a chance.
From what I do know of TMNT, this feels a lot grittier, but at the same time it would appear if you watch until the end of the trailer that they are trying to preserve the humor of the Turtles.
The film is scheduled for release on August 8.
