Media Distribution Paradigms

I’m one of those cable cutters; I do not have subscription cable TV. I have a cable line running into my house, but it only provides me with Internet. I use Hulu and Netflix, and I have pretty much ripped all my DVDs or Blu-rays and store them on a Hard Drive on an inexpensive Mac Mini “Media Server”. When I purchase these days, I purchase almost all my movies, TV shows 1 , and music through iTunes. The reasons for this are simple, it’s fairly future proof, I can re-download the media from iTunes in the Cloud anytime I want or need to, which also makes it always available via streaming to…

NBC has given Revolution, Go On and The New Normal a giant vote of confidence, giving all three freshman shows full-season orders.

“We’re impressed with the imagination and creative direction of the entire team on Revolution, not to mention the immediately strong response we got from the audience,” said NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke in a statement. “We’re also very proud of our new comedy block of Go On and The New Normal.”

...

Revolution‘s debut episode ranked as NBC’s best drama launch in adults 18-49 in five years (since the premiere of Bionic Woman in 2007), and it…

6. Why is it essential for a looper to close his own loop?

This is another one of those questions Johnson had answered in his head but didn’t put in the movie. In fact, he even conceived a scene with Abe addressing it but never shot it.

“People in the future, all they know about time travel is to be afraid of it. So they’re trying to keep it as tight as possible. So the initial reason they set it up this way was to keep the causality loop as tight as possible,” Johnson said. Because, for example, if someone else kills your older self and you have to exist with your own murderer for 30…

Red Dawn Clip

Red Dawn Clip

I have to admit I have not yet been very aware of this film or paid much attention until I saw this clip. But I think I may be interested now. First here’s the official synopsis from the Apple Trailers page:

In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky—shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding…

“Shakespeare in the park” was a line that Whedon threw to Downey on the day of filming. Downey then ad-libbed “Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?” Similarly, the shawarma aside came up when he asked Whedon for more material following his revival. The director gave him a few options, shawarma among them, which Downey then took and ran with to its glorious conclusion. Saying that the arc reactor was a “terrible privilege” was also an addition of his that Whedon loved.

One of many great little tidbits. The geek in me is loving this!

The intention was to impart that…

‘Cloud Atlas’ First Clip

‘Cloud Atlas’ First Clip

Just exactly what Cloud Atlas is really about is anyone’s guess at this point. The trailers have all been both intriguing, and confusing as to the actual plot. It appears to have six different threads running through the film that will be in some manner weaved together. I’m picking up a strong Hindu vibe, but this isn’t really surprising since the previous well known film trilogy by the Wachowskis started heading majorly in this direction in the second installment. I have a feeling this is really going to annoy me, but perhaps, if done right, a fanciful world can be created that won’t annoy…

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Will Film in Cleveland
Slash Film

While Iron Man is in North Carolina and Thor  is across the pond in London, England, Captain America is sticking with his Avenger roots and filming in Ohio. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will be filming about 40% of its entirety in and around Cleveland, Ohio. That’s the same place Joss Whedon used to double as New York for most of the final battle in The Avengers, suggesting Cap’s story will stay in New York and keep visual Marvel continuity. Not much news here, but I’m looking forward to this film so I have to post…

Understand that I am not posting this because it looks good. I have no intention of seeing this. I’m posting this because of just how ludicrous and hilarious this trailer looks.

Also, it’s actually kind of amazing just how good you can make a low budget B movie look these days.

Enjoy the laughableness.

Even if you’ve already seen “The Avengers” a thousand times by now, here’s a reason to push that tally to 1,001: the Joss Whedon commentary track.

...

Whedon has a thing for knocking Norse guys out of the frame. “It’s always fun to do that,” he confessed, regarding Thor and Loki’s propensity for getting spontaneously slammed out of scenes.

...

The director is also extremely proud of how Hulk manhandles Loki at the film’s climax. “If I did nothing else for the last two years, if I literally sat on my bum doing nothing, and I made that little scene? I would feel that I had…
