Modernized ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Trailer

Modernized ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Trailer

I have quite the bag of mixed feelings when it comes to modern trailers. In same ways I think they tend to be formulaic in our modern time. But in other ways, I watch some of those older trailers and remember how awful they were. It was really quite terrible.

Then again I think of how much fewer spoilers older trailers tended to have and I wish a little for those days.

But for the most part, I think our trailer landscape is far better than it has ever been and I love a good movie trailer. I don’t find trailers tend to spoil my own enjoyment of a film and so I always look forward to and…

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’ Will Be Helmed by ‘Earth To Echo’ Director Dave Green

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’ Will Be Helmed by ‘Earth To Echo’ Director Dave Green
Angie Han — /Film

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may have left critics cold, but that didn’t stop a lot of other people from shelling out for a ticket. Enough people did so, in fact, that Paramount dated a sequel before the first film’s opening weekend was done. And now it seems they’ve found the guy to steer that ship.

According to a new report, Earth to Echo helmer Dave Green is looking to helm Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec, who penned the last movie, will write and executive produce.

I mean, we knew a sequel was inevitable, right? I suppose I’ll see it. The…

First Trailer for ‘Terminator Genisys’ Starring Arnold Schwarenegger, Emilia Clarke, & Jai Courtney

First Trailer for ‘Terminator Genisys’ Starring Arnold Schwarenegger, Emilia Clarke, & Jai Courtney

Remember when Arnold said, “I’ll be back” in that first Terminator film? Well, he wasn’t joking, because he’s back. Again. And he looks old. Apparently, that’s okay though because the T-800 model terminator’s outside organic body ages just like a human’s would.

So, everyone has been sort of hating on this trailer. I actually kind of like it. Granted I have no special affection for this franchise. I was (understandably) not allowed to watch it when a kid, and only this year have I been getting aquainted with the series. There are some things to like and some things I don’t care for. And I’m…

Whitewashing Was the Only Way to Get ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Made Says Ridley Scott

Whitewashing Was the Only Way to Get ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Made Says Ridley Scott
Russ Fischer — /Film

Ridley Scott is one of the most powerful directors working in Hollywood. (If he can get The Counselor made, he can do anything.) Following The Counselor, Scott turned to the story of Exodus, and cast a predominantly white cast for the film Exodus: Gods and Kings. Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II is played by Joel Egerton, who among the least-Egyptian actor working right now. An outcry resulted in part because the “gods and kings” of the title are all white, while the slaves in the film are black. We’re evidently not quite to the point where this won’t happen, but we’re definitely in a place where…

Honest Trailer: ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

Honest Trailer: ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

Well, they did it again. No, it’s not their best trailer ever, but as usual it’s a lot of fun and makes a lot of uncomfortably good points. I still love the film a lot, but doggone, it’s easy to make fun of.

Be warned if this sort of thing offends you, there’s a crude reference to the male anatomy at the end.

Evangeline Lilly Says Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant Man’ Would Not Have Fit In the Marvel Universe

Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

“I thought Edgar’s idea to blend the [Hank and Scott] stories was brilliant,” Lilly told Buzzfeed about Wright’s approach. “You’re going to have fans up there who insist that you tell the story of Hank Pym, and fans up there who will be more on the Scott Lang side of it. … I think we are going to come close to pleasing them all.” But when Wright exited the movie, things were then thrown up in the air.

...

“I saw with my own eyes that Marvel had just pulled the script into their world,” Lilly revealed. “I mean, they’ve established a universe, and everyone has come to expect a certain…

TJ and Joe didn’t get to watch the movie they wanted to watch because it was in limited release, so they watched ‘Birdman’ instead. And they are glad they did. There’s a lot to chew on with Birdman and TJ and Joe relish in the analysis. Also don’t miss some follow up on ‘The Force Awakens’ trailer, news of the ‘House of Cards’ season 3 premiere date, and Batman vs. Darth Vader. It’s most impressive!

Birdman — Review

4 of 5 stars
Birdman

What is film? More specifically, what do films, or the folks who make them, want to accomplish with their film? The answer to this question can be different for every film and every filmmaker out there. But I believe we could find on a very broad overview, that 99% of all films every made intend to tell you a story, and entertain you while doing it. No matter the genre, no matter the subject, no matter true story or fictional, filmmakers want you to be enthralled and engaged and to enjoy the great telling of a good story. Let’s start there for Birdman. Did the film enthrall me? Did it engage…

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ TV Trailer

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ TV Trailer

Many are calling this latest trailer for Exodus: Gods and Kings “epic.” While I understand what they mean, I have to say that this trailer would not get my attention like the last one did. This trailer seesm to focus on the action and the heart pounding. The previous theatrical trailer has much more balance and nuance and things that I was interested in. But that’s not what’s going to seel people on this film, and Ridley Scott and the rest of the team know that. So they’ve given us this trailer.

The film opens in theaters on December 12.

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ International Trailer

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ International Trailer

Well now, while I’m still looking forward to this film, this trailer just isn’t half as good as any of the previous trailers. I sure hope the film is better than this latest trailer suggests.

It is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who has done some quite good work prior to this. And the film stars Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, and Michael Caine, so I still think it’s going to be good.

In theaters on February 13.
