What to see: Weekend of May 10, 2013

It’s that time of week again, our work is almost done and it’s time to head and play for the weekend. And of course, you’ll probably want to see a film but you don’t know exactly which one. Well, I can’t decide which one to go see for you, but I can help you determine which films are the best candidates.

New This Weekend

The Great Gatsby - PG13
I really didn’t enjoy the 1974 version with Robert Redford very much at all, from a lack of good story telling, inept editing, poor morals, upholding bad people as heroes and more, that film was simply bad. On the one hand I’m happy to report…

What to see: Weekend of May 3, 2013

Hey, look at that! There’s actually a new film out worthing seeing this weekend! Let’s take a look.

Opening This Weekend

Iron Man 3 - PG-13
This is a pretty great installment in the Marvel Universe. And I loved that it wasn’t just about the suites and another guy with suites more powerful than Iron Man’s suit, etc. etc. This movie had heart, and it was a story about the characters, not the metal that the characters wear. And there were some surprises to the plot that were unexpect, unlike Iron Man 2, which felt a little bit like a paint by numbers job. Definitely worth seeing this one!…

What to see: Weekend of April 26, 2013

Not a lot new going on this week, but trust me the dam is about to break and we are going to be flooded with summer movie fun let me tell you. Regardless, here’s your guide to what you might want to see this weekend.

Opening This Weekend

Pain & Gain - R
Michael Bay has consistently (with one exception) turned out films that are anywhere from mediocre, to complete and utter trash. This film looks like it’s closer to the trash side of the gage to me. I admit to having bias against the guy because I hate the Transformers franchise so much, but seriously, I am not the least interested in…

We’ve got what I think is going to be a goody this week! Oblivion is now out in theaters and I am greatly looking forward to this film. They’ve really been pumping out the trailers and promotional material so I hope they haven’t overdone it and I hope it’s good!

Opening This Weekend!

Oblivion - PG-13
This film is being pushed hard by the marketing team and it’s one that got my attention and interest over the last several weeks. I saw it Thursday night and let me tell you it was an awesome film and I highly recomend it. I’m still mulling over my star rating, but I’m pretty sure I will…

What to see: Weekend of April 12, 2013

There’s really only one new release this weekend that is looking any good, so it’s a bit of a “between the mountain tops” sort of week in my book. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Opening This Weekend

42 - PG-13
Jackie Robinson was the first black Major League Baseball player. It also means he was the focus of much scorn, criticism, and racism. If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s racism. So while I’m not a big fan of sports at all, I am going to go see this film. And this film will also be the subject of The MovieByte Podcast next week.

“42” tells the story of two men—the great…

What to see: Weekend of April 5, 2013

This week looks like a bit of a dud for new, fresh releases, but there are still some things in theaters we might like to see so don’t give up all hope.

Opening this Weekend

Evil Dead - R
I have zero interest in this film. I can’t find much to recommend it, it looks like all creepy horror with no really good plot or story and I’m just not interested in such.

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the…

Hey peeps, we got some movies lined up for you to see this weekend. The light at the end of the winter tunnel is getting brighter, we’re walking toward it, it’s almost here. It’s not quite summer yet, but we do have some good options at least now. Let’s take a gander.

New Films

G.I. Joe: Retaliation - PG-13
This film is not going to be anything like Shakespeare. It’s not even going to be as good as a really good action film like The Avengers. And yet I expect it to be fun. It has Bruce Willis in it for crying out loud (and we’re pretending like that last Die Hard film he made doesn’t…

What to see: Weekend of March 21, 2013

We’ve got what looks like one decent new option this weekend (I’ll be able to tell you for sure after tonight), and a couple still in theaters that are great options as well. I look forward to writing this feature every week because I love seeing what’s new and still in theaters and kind of seeing where things are at.

Topping my list of “want to see” and the one I will be seeing this weekend is:

Olympus Has Fallen - R
This film has Morgan Freeman, need I say more? But seriously this film looks to be fantastic to me. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a good action/thriller in the white…

What to see: Weekend of March 15, 2013

We’ve got a couple of things coming out in cinemas, and a few things still in the cinemas that you might be interested in seeing. We’re slowly but surely getting away from the absolute trash that was in theaters for a couple of dull, dreadful months.

New This Weekend

The Call - R
I plan to see this film tomorrow evening (hopefully). I’m hoping for a decent, film, but probably not a great one. I’m going to venture a guess that this will be a 3 or possibly a 3.5 star rating from me. We’ll see.

When veteran 911 operator, Jordan (Halle Berry), takes a life-altering call from a teenage…

Things are picking up a little at the cinema, there are actually a couple of things worth seeing this weekend. Let’s dive in.

New This Weekend

Oz The Great and Powerful - PG
I saw this film last night and it’s worth seeing, if not quite as good as I might have hoped. Still, it’s loads better than that other Oz film I can’t stand (oh Judy Garland…). Of course this is technically a prequel to that part of the story. And it gets just a tad cheesy from time to time, but it was always enjoyable.

When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled…
