Star Trek Into Darkness was a lot better than J.J.‘s first film in this new, rebooted universe in my opinion, but man holy cow! there’s a lot of CGI in it.

ILM has released to videos to showcase the work they did on the film. The first is really a sort of visual effects reel of the overall film. The second features commentary from Roger Guyett, Visual Effects Supervisor, and Paul Kavanahg, Animation Supervisor. When McQueen was presented the best director award Monday night by Harry Belafonte, critic Armond White allegedly jeered McQueen as “an embarrassing doorman and garbage man.”

In an email to 12 Years a Slave distributor Fox Searchlight first posted online by Deadline, NYFCC chairman Joshua Rothkopf apologized to McQueen for “the crass bit of heckling” he encountered. Rothkopf said he was “mortified” that it came from one of the group’s own members and pledged “disciplinary action.”

I don’t care what he thought of the film, that was disgusting and classless.

This is a fun little short film staring Elle Fanning as a girl recounting her experience of seeing stars for the first time after having been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa from a very early age. It’s a great little story, and man can Elle Fanning put on a charming Scottish accent or what? The visual effects are also interesting. It was all shot on green screen and all elements around the actors were added in.

Very sweet little film.

I haven’t heard of this film before now, but after watching I’m actually a little intersted. It’s almost a bit much for me in its violence and grittiness, but I feel like there might be a good story here. Sometimes I am right about these things and sometimes I am wrong.

This upcoming film is apparently based on an anime film from 1998. Who knows what kind of weird things that will make the filmmakers feel like they need to do. But hey, it stars Samuel L. Jackson so it certainly has the potential to be something great because, well, Jackson is awesome.

If there’s one thing I’m really looking forward to in 2014, it’s the release of season 2 of House of Cards. It may be on the cutting edge of where things are headed by being available only on Netflix’s Video On Demand Service, but it’s also one of the most cinematic television shows I have ever watched. I definitely loved the first season for that aspect alone.

Were you ever in any kind of a play and/or some sort of big production? Well if so, you might be able to relate to Michael Bay. And as much as I don’t like his films (except for the one fluke of his career where he made a really good film, The Island), I really kind of felt bad for him watching this. He went on stage expecting the teleprompter to guide him through, and apparently the teleprompter got messed up and he didn’t know what to do or say. He tried to wing it, and then just walked off the stage. It’s sort of entertaining, but mostly I was just cringing.
