Follow-Up: Gosling Not Appearing in ‘Star Wars VII’

Follow-Up: Gosling Not Appearing in ‘Star Wars VII’
Christopher Rosen - Huffington Post

A few days ago, I told you about a rumor that actors Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron had for roles in JJ Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars film. Since then, however, Gosling’s representatives have contacted the Huffington Post to say “this is not true.”

For what it’s worth, Gosling has expressed a desire to back away from acting in the short term. “I’ve been doing it too much,” he told The Associated Press in March. “I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about…

RED 2 — Review

3.5 of 5 stars
RED 2

RED, a 2010 film starring Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, and Helen Mirren, was great because it brought something new to the table: older actors, most not known for starring in action films, coming together to create an action film that works as both a good action film and as a good comedy too. However, I was slightly concerned for the sequel; could the filmmakers capture what was special about the first film without rehashing it in the second? Luckily, I think that they (mostly) pulled it off.

The Mission

RED 2 picks up where the first film left off, with…

Sacha Baron Cohen Exits Freddie Mercury Biopic

Sacha Baron Cohen Exits Freddie Mercury Biopic
Nikki Finke - Deadline

For those of you who didn’t know, a biopic about the life of Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury has been in the works, with Sacha Baron Cohen starring as the late rock singer, who died of AIDS in 1991. However, according to Nikki Finke over at Deadline, there have been creative differences between the actor and the surviving members of the band, Brian May and Roger Taylor, who have script and director approval for the film.

The reason is that the band wanted to make more of a PG movie about Queen while Cohen was counting on a gritty R-rated tell-all centered around the gifted gay singer.…

Rumor: Gosling and Efron Considered for ‘Star Wars VII’

Rumor: Gosling and Efron Considered for ‘Star Wars VII’
Kellvin Chavez - Latino Review

Part of what made the original Star Wars trilogy so great was its use of actors who were at the time unknowns, especially Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Even the prequel trilogy, as widely derided as it is (I’ll save my personal opinion for another time…), used many then-unknown actors, such as Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and even, to an extent, Ewan McGregor. However, there’s a rumor circulating that we might be seeing a few familiar faces in the first film of the new trilogy, and I don’t mean “familiar” as in “from previous Star Wars films.”

R.I.P.D. — Review

1.5 of 5 stars
R.I.P.D.

One word: WHY.

The Story

R.I.P.D. tells the story of Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds), a police officer who opens the film with the burying of some mysterious pieces of gold under an orange tree in his backyard. We quickly learn that the gold was found by him and his partner, Bobby (Kevin Bacon), during a drug bust, but Nick tells Bobby that he has decided to return the gold. Later that day, during a raid, Bobby shoots Nick, killing him and sending him to the office of Mildred Proctor (Mary-Louise Parker), head of the Rest In Peace Department, or R.I.P.D. for short. The organization’s purpose is…

‘World War Z’ - Chad’s Review

Corey wrote the official MovieByte review of World War Z, but Chad also had some thoughts and I thought I would change it up a little and run this as an article. He’ll be on the podcast with me today at 3:00 PM CDT to talk about the film.

‘World War Z’ - Chad’s Review

How does one judge a zombie film? I’ve personally never had any interest in the genre; in fact, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a zombie film or television show about zombies before now, excluding 2007′s I Am Legend (which I’m not counting because the “creatures” in the original book by Richard Matheson that the film was based on were actually vampires). It’s a genre that I’ve always been skeptical of, so I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to see World War Z…frankly speaking, the trailers didn’t make me at all interested. However, I finally saw it, and, guess what? Wow.

Based on the book by…

Now You See Me — Review

4 of 5 stars

Chad has been an avid reader and supporter of MovieByte for some time. As pretty much the only guy working on MovieByte right now, and while still trying to work to make a living in addition to MovieByte I sometimes get overwhelmed. Such was the case with Now You See Me. Though I wanted to write the review of the film, I simply haven’t had time. Chad has stepped in to fill in the gap and I think him very much for doing so.

Enjoy his review, it’s good stuff!

Now You See Me

Magic is fun. Movies are fun. Combining the two to make a movie about a group of magicians who rob a bank? Even more fun! With a premise like that, Now You See Me, sets itself up from the start to be one heck of a ride - and quite an entertaining one at that!

The Magical Plot

Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco star as four magicians of varying abilities who work alone. As we are introduced to each magician performing his/her solo act, we notice a hooded figure  in attendance at each performer’s show. Soon, the four are brought together, each having received a…
