‘Les Miserabublbles’ — The Honest Trailer

‘Les Miserabublbles’ — The Honest Trailer

I admit it, I enjoyed Les Miserables far more than I thought I would. But I think I may have enjoyed the Honest Trailer even more. I mean seriously, why must we sing our way through the entire film? I know, I know, I’m uncultured or whatever.

But this is great:

Upcoming New Orson Scott Card Novel May Provide Movie Sequel

Upcoming New Orson Scott Card Novel May Provide Movie Sequel
Russ Fischer - /Film

I won’t go into full-on Ender’s Game spoilers here above the fold, but many have wondered whether or not the film would earn a sequel, and if so how the story would work out. See, the film Ender’s Game retains the basic ending of the original novel by Orson Scott Card, and that leads into a more complex and stranger sequel called Speaker for the Dead.

Trouble is, that novel takes place many years after Ender’s Game. The actors from this season’s film wouldn’t be able to make the jump without extensive reworking of the story.

But Card is penning another story, called Fleet School, which is…

New 3-Minute Trailer for ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’

New 3-Minute Trailer for ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’

This is quite obviously the best trailer we have seen for this film so far. In fact, I would say it’s the best trailer we’ve seen in The Hobbit series thus far. It almost makes me look forward to this film — almost.

As you all will know, I’m of two minds about this. The geek/nerd (or whatever) in me is looking forward to this film because I can’t help it. On the other hand, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first film in this franchise of 3 based off one book, was a bloated and tangled mess with way too much fat that needed trimming for my taste.

Still, Peter Jackson cuts together a…

‘Catching Fire’ TV Spot Set to Christina Aguilera Song

‘Catching Fire’ TV Spot Set to Christina Aguilera Song

So, if Christina Aguilera is your thing, I suppose you’ll enjoy this trailer. If she’s not, well, you’ll probably still enjoy the trailer — unless you don’t like The Hunger Games. In which case, you probably did not click through to this article and you probably aren’t reading and/or watching anyway.

We’re getting might close to the release of this second installment now and I’m ready, I’m excited. I’m somewhat worried given some of the things that I’ve heard about the film recently, but I’m still hopeful. I loved the first film, and I’m hoping to like this one as well.

Winner of the Game — Box Office Report

Winner of the Game — Box Office Report

So yeah, this week I’m still crying about Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, but at least it’s not number one again. Bleh. No, a far better film got the top spot, for which I can at least be thankful! Now, I don’t think we can kid ourselves that Ender’s Game can stay on top this coming weekend when Thor: The Dark World makes its debut, but maybe it can scrape number two?

#1 — Ender’s Game

Budget: $110 Million

Catching Fire on Track for Massive $185 Million Opening

Catching Fire on Track for Massive $185 Million Opening
Todd Cunningham - TheWrap.com

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is tracking for an opening weekend that could go as high as $185 million when it debuts on Nov. 22, based on box-office marketing data released Thursday.

The higher pre-release tracking goes, the less reliable it becomes, and we’re still three weeks away from the opening. But the Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi sequel looks like it will be a box-office monster for distributor Lionsgate Entertainment.

The distributor views the numbers more conservatively, and is at this point projecting an opening between $140 million and $150 million, citing the crowded…

About ‘Ender’s’ Ending

About ‘Ender’s’ Ending
Adam Markovitz - Entertainment Weekly

I hope I don’t have to spell this out for you, but this is going to be spoilery if you haven’t seen the film yet (or read the book). So go do those things before you read this. Then come back!

Ready? Here comes the spoilers!

Ender realizes that he’s just committed genocide, stumbles out of the command center, wanders into a Formic cave, discovers an egg, has a telepathic conversation with a dying Formic queen who WIPES HIS TEARS AWAY WITH HER GIANT ANT FOOT, and then sets off to colonize a new Formic world with his egg. At this point I had three main thoughts, in roughly this…

Joe Cornish Rumored Front Runner as Next ‘Star Trek’ Director

Joe Cornish Rumored Front Runner as Next ‘Star Trek’ Director
Oliver Lyttelton - The Playlist

When he took the “Star Wars” job a year ago, J.J. Abrams soon confirmed that he wouldn’t be returning to direct a third ‘Star Trek’ movie, which Paramount has been keen to move forward with sooner rather than later. Names likeRupert Wyatt and Jon M. Chu have been mentioned as potential directors, but according to Deadline, the frontrunner appears to be someone who Latino Review actually mentioned as being on a shortlist a little while ago:Joe Cornish, helmer of the excellent “Attack the Block.”

In the three years since that film landed, Cornish has flirted with projects—comic-book…

Bill Condon on ‘The Fifth Estate’ Disaster

Bill Condon on ‘The Fifth Estate’ Disaster
Laura Hertzfeld - Entertainment Weekly

By all accounts, The Fifth Estate — Bill Condon’s movie about WikiLeaks mastermind Julian Assange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch — was a box office disaster. After a lukewarm reception at Toronto and opening to mixed reviews last month, the film has only made a little over $3 million since its Oct. 18 release. Director Condon told EW he blames the lackluster response on Assange.

“We were all so excited [around the release date] because it was just in the news recently, but the opposite might be true, that it simply wore out its welcome and that there is something about Assange. I do think…

‘Agents of SHIELD’ - ‘Thor’ Crossover

‘Agents of SHIELD’ - ‘Thor’ Crossover
Russ Fischer - /Film

In the aftermath of the events chronicled in the feature film Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, Coulson and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pick up the pieces–one of which threatens to destroy a member of the team.

This one airs November 19, with Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation) directing and guest stars such as Peter MacNicol, Michael Graziadei, Erin Way, Toby Wilson, Alex Neustaedter, and Sylvia Brindis.

Sounds good to me. I’ve found Frakes to be a pretty good director. I liked both of his Star Trek films (haters of Insurrection can just deal with it), and he’s directed…
