Universal has seemingly decided that the new film adaptation of Les Miserables, starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway and directed by Tom Hooper (The Kings Speech), makes a good Christmas present. (A present for Universal, at least.) The film has been pushed back to a December 25 opening.

Bones returned Monday night with the premiere of season 8. As a cable cutter, I could not have watched it until Tuesday via Hulu (or any other non-broadcast means). As it was, I was unable to watch it on Tuesday, catching it on Hulu via my Apple TV last night instead.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Trailer 2 is here for Tolkien Week. This is the first big thing since the announcement of The Hobbit moving from two films to a trilogy.

Innovative. That’s the first word that springs to mind as I listen to the score for Looper. Composer Nathan Johnson didn’t exactly go for the traditional approach – and I, for one, am delighted that he didn’t. Leading out of an amplified The Voice (which with 13.4 million total viewers and a 4.6 demo rating was up 9 percent week-to-week) and admittedly facing little competition, NBC’s post-apocalyptic drama drew 11.7 million samplers while netting a 4.1 rating, making it the highest-rated network drama debut in three years (since ABC’s V) and the Peacock’s best drama premiere in five years (since, oof, Bionic Woman).
