‘Ride Along 2’ In the Works

‘Ride Along 2’ In the Works
Anita Busch — Deadline

It was inevitable after the huge success of Ride Along that Universal Pictures executives would be salivating to get the sequel together. Tim Story will direct Ride Along 2 and Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are closing to reprise their roles as the quick-witted security guard (Hart) who has his eye on his partner’s (Cube’s) sister. The film debuted five weeks ago on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to bring in a record opening of $41.5M. It has since grossed more than $120M worldwide as of this weekend. The three-day gross on Ride Along dropped only 9% even as they shed 283 screens with…

‘Monster Trucks’ Begins Casting, ‘Ninjago’ Could Happen Before ‘Lego Movie 2’

‘Monster Trucks’ Begins Casting, ‘Ninjago’ Could Happen Before ‘Lego Movie 2’
Angie Han — /Film

Then The Lego Movie hit theaters, dominating the box office and earning stellar reviews besides. Suddenly, a Monster Trucks movie looks like a good idea. Such a good idea, in fact, that it’s begun casting, with Suburgatory‘s Jane Levy and X-Men: First Class‘s Lucas Till eyed for the leads.

No. Just no.

Meanwhile, with $197 million in the bank and counting, The Lego Movie is sure to get a follow-up. But the question Warner Bros. is pondering right now is whether to move ahead with both The Lego Movie 2 and the planned Ninjago spinoff, and if so, which one it wants to make first.

Say…

Police State Warning: Woman Jailed for Failing To Return Movie Rental From 2005

Police State Warning: Woman Jailed for Failing To Return Movie Rental From 2005
Angie Han — /Film

South Carolina woman Kayla Michelle Finley was sent to jail last week for failing to return a copy of the Jennifer Lopez comedy Monster-in-Law that she’d rented nine years ago. Although the store where she originally picked up the tape, Dalton’s Video, has since shut down, the warrant for her arrest never expired.

According to Fox Carolina, Finley, 27, had gone to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office to report an unrelated crime, only to be “shocked and disgusted” when she was arrested for not returning Monster-in-Law in 2005. She was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and spent…

So Much for ‘RoboCop’ — ‘The LEGO Movie’ and ‘About Last Night’ Take Two Top Spots at Box Office

So Much for ‘RoboCop’ — ‘The LEGO Movie’ and ‘About Last Night’ Take Two Top Spots at Box Office
The Playlist

When your options are a tepidly received “RoboCop” remake and a Valentine’s Day-themed romance movie that only the teenage girl die-hards seemed interested in (“Endless Love”), is it any wonder “The Lego Movie” blocked out the competition this weekend? That said, performing quite well was the “About Last Night” remake. And no, don’t chalk that one up to ’80s nostalgia—instead, see it as one more film connecting with the underserved African-American audience who are happy to come out in droves when a movie is actually geared towards them.

Well what am I supposed to say to that. And what…

Fox Anchor Dislikes ‘The LEGO Movie’

Fox Anchor Dislikes ‘The LEGO Movie’

The LEGO Movie may be a smash hit as it participated in the capitalist system of film and movies, but that doesn’t matter to this intrepid Fox anchor. As a matter of fact it kind of upsets him because of how anti-capitalistic the film is. I mean, just look at the name of the villain, it’s Lord Business. Therefore, the filmmakers are villainizing business and all of capitalism. Now that’s some deep analysis right there. That’s the sort of stuff that keeps me up at night worrying about what the Hollywood machine will turn out next. Maybe the next movie will feature Lord Capital, then their evil…

How ‘Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace’ Should Have Ended

How ‘Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace’ Should Have Ended

Aw yeah…

Actually, this is a slight disappointment because there are so many places they could have gone with this and they didn’t maximize the potential available. Still, anything that brings us a laugh at one of the more terrible films ever made — and easily the worst of the six Star Wars films — is a good thing in my book. And let’s face it, the film was riddled with plot holes, only a couple of which are pointed out in this video, the dialogued was as if it had been written by a six year old Anakin, and the characters were awful!

So enjoy this video because it’s mission to make people…

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Superbowl Ad and Long-form Trailer

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Superbowl Ad and Long-form Trailer

Chad tells me that he looks forward to reading any of my Spider-Man related articles just so he can see if I’ve found new and creative ways to express my hatred of the new series. I’ll try not to disappoint.

In this latest round of trailers, this new Spider-Man series continues to feel like a parody of a good Spider-Man series. We had a decent Spider-Man series with Tobey Maguire, but this Andrew Garfield Spider-Man just feels completely off. Some have lauded it as being closer to the feel of the comics, but I think we have proven over the years that a straight adaptation from comic book to…

J.K. Rowling Has Lost Her Mind, Regrets Hermione and Ron Pairing

J.K. Rowling Has Lost Her Mind, Regrets Hermione and Ron Pairing
Andrew Sims — Hypable

In a new interview conducted by Emma Watson, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling drops a bombshell: She’s not so sure she should have put Ron and Hermione together.

The shocking revelation came in the new issue of Wonderland, of which Watson is a guest editor this month. The comments were obtained by The Sunday Times.

Rowling says that she should have put Hermione and Harry together in the Harry Potter series instead of Hermione and Ron, according to the publication’s headline, which reads, “JK admits Hermione should have wed Harry.”

Okay, now she’s just messing with us. Harry and Hermione…

“But hey, if she’s gonna run off with another man, why not Jesus?”

What. Did. I. Just. Watch? Oh my goodness this is so bad — SO BAD! Please tell me this is some sort of alternate reality. What is it about any Christian themed film that tends to be so cheesy? Forget the fact that the premise of this work by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins is just so fatally flawed in terms of theology, I mean I can’t get past how terrible this clip is. Absolutely awful. And the music… geez…

‘Taken 3’ Is In the Works

‘Taken 3’ Is In the Works
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

Deadline reports that the awesomely named “Taken 2” helmer Olivier Megaton will be back to direct “Taken 3,” with Liam Neeson set to reprise his role as the man with special skills. Even more, Forest Whitaker is in talks to join the cast — which will also include Maggie Grace — though there’s no word yet on his role. Villain? Ally? Guess we’ll see, but hopefully Bryan Mills has learned that he probably shouldn’t travel in Europe for a while. In case you were wondering, Luc Besson and Kamen both wrote the script this time out too.

This is not going to end well. See also: Taken 2: Please…
