‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Writer to Pen ‘G.I. Joe 3’

‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Writer to Pen ‘G.I. Joe 3’

Apparently the admirably goofy “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” made enough money that Paramount and Hasbro are going back to the based-on-a-line-of-popular-action-figures well one more time; they’ve just hired Evan Daugherty, the screenwriter behind last summer’s “Snow White and the Huntsman,” to pen “G.I. Joe 3.” Paramount was impressed with the work Daugherty did getting their “Ninja Turtles” screenplay into fighting shape (sorry, couldn’t resist). ‘Retaliation’ director Jon M. Chu returns as director. As of now, a silly subtitle has yet to be decided on.

Snow White and the Huntsman was a pretty…

WB Announces ‘Harry Potter’ Spin-Off Series
Andrew Sims - Hypable

Warner Bros. has announced a new Harry Potter-related film series based in the world of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie will be an “original story and will mark Rowling’s screenwriting debut. It is planned as the first picture in a new film series.”

What’s more, the series will focus on the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt Scamander. According to Rowling, the first film will be set 70 years before the first Harry Potter book in New York.

Wow. So um, hmm. Okay.

I don’t know whether to be excited about this…

‘Pirates 5’ Delayed (Because of ‘The Lone Ranger’ Flop?)

‘Pirates 5’ Delayed (Because of ‘The Lone Ranger’ Flop?)
Drew Taylor - The Playlist

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that the film will be delayed well beyond its planned summer 2015 release date, which means it isn’t likely to open until the following summer (the ‘Pirates’ movies aren’t really winter fare). Production on the sequel, supposedly titled “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” will still start this fall, except later than expected.

It’s unclear how much the failure of this summer’s “The Lone Ranger” had to do with the delay of ‘Pirates 5.’ That film featured many of the same creative principles that fuel the ‘Pirates’ franchise, most notably…

Back to the Future star Lea Thompson, who has recently been starring on the television series “Switched at Birth,”
has joined the cast of Left Behind. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Thompson will star opposite Nicolas Cage, Quinton Aaron, Jordin Sparks, Cassi Thomson, Chad Michael Murray and Nicky Whelan in the story of a group of survivors during the first few hours after the Rapture.

Ugh. Do we really have to go through with this? Bad theology. Bad films. Ugh.

Samantha Highfill - Entertainment Weekly

Ant-Man fans, rejoice! EW has confirmed that Disney recently pushed up the superhero film’s 2015 release date. Originally set to hit theaters on Nov. 6, 2015, Ant-Man, directed and co-written by The World’s End helmer Edgar Wright, is now scheduled to arrive on the big screen on July 31, 2015, which will put it in the orbit of fellow summer 2015 sure-fire blockbusters Avengers: Age of Ultron, set for May 1, 2015, and Zack Snyder’s untitled Man of Steel sequel, slotted for release on  July 17, 2015.

Because summer of 2015 was not already crowded enough…

‘World War Z’ Sequel is In the Cards (video)

We’re certainly talking about it, yes. We have so many ideas on the table from the time we spent just developing this thing and figuring out how zombie worlds work.

So what that means to me is that, yes, we’re moving forward with a sequel if we can get the studio to hop on board even though the film was not as big a money maker as they might have hoped. It was still a money maker so we hope they will go forward with it.

Josh Brolin Was Up for the role of Batman

Josh Brolin Was Up for the role of Batman
ComingSoon.net

Josh Brolin has confirmed to The Huffington Post that he was up for the role of Batman in director Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman/Batman movie, a role which instead went to Ben Affleck.

Asked if he had any conversations with Snyder about the role, Brolin said, “We did. I didn’t have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn’t turn out. It’s OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben.”

I’m not sure by how much, but I think this would have been a better choice. Then again, I’m not really the right person to ask…

With only twelve weeks to go before release, Lionsgate announced Friday that tickets for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will go on sale starting October 1st, at 12p.m. ET / 9a.m. PT with advance movie tickets available through Fandango and MovieTickets.com.

I will probably go ahead and get mine on October 1st. I’ve made a reminder for myself on my calendar. Cannot wait! The film releases on November 22.

Also, I found this little tidbit fun:

The first installment broke records for advance ticket sales, outpacing the Twilight series.

Good. Somewhat famously, I didn’t hate the…

Roberto Orci Is Sick of the Fan Criticism

Roberto Orci Is Sick of the Fan Criticism
Angie Han - /Film

Despite a robust Rotten Tomatoes score of 87%, Star Trek Into Darkness found quite a few detractors when it hit screens. Worse, many of them were longtime Star Trek fans who hated it enough to rank it the worst Star Trek movie of all time in a poll at a recent convention.

That negative reaction got Trek lover Joseph Dickerson thinking, and he penned a long essay calling the franchise “broken” and offering ideas on how to fix it. Where things got really interesting, though, was when Star Trek Into Darkness writer Roberto Orci personally got involved in the comments suggestion. Eventually, he…

Katee Sackoff Has Been Talking to Marvel

Katee Sackoff Has Been Talking to Marvel
Germain Lussier - /Film

After several male dominated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more attention is turning to women. Besides the inclusion of Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel director/producer Louis D’Esposito was recently quoted saying the company wants to make a female lead superhero movie. He even offered up the character Captain Marvel as a possibility.

So who could play a role like that? Well someone at Marvel must really like the cast ofRiddick. Dave Bautista and Vin Diesel were both cast in Guardians of the Galaxy and now it’s come out that Marvel has had discussions with Katee…
