A Movie About a Fake Movie

A Movie About a Fake Movie

In this episode, TJ is joined by Clark Douglas while Joseph is off on jury duty. TJ and Clark talk a lot about Clark’s radio show and podcast about film scores and soundtracks, Alan Silvestri and Clark’s recent highlighting of his work, what it’s like to be a radio station manager, Hans Zimmer and his approach to film scoring, some of Clark’s favorite composers such as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and more, as well as some geeky discussion of Star Trek and Star Trek Scores, and then TJ and Clark talk about their differences of opinion on John Williams. They then briefly discuss a couple of quick things from Clark’s interview on Movieology. After this they turn their attention to a couple of films. TJ briefly discusses Taken 2, which Clark has not seen. It is simply not as good as the original Taken and was very disappointing to TJ. And finally, they discuss the fine film Argo, Ben Affleck’s career, the great acting in the film, the great story telling and more.

The break-up frenzy that upended Glee earlier this month appears to be spreading to Bones.

On the heels of Sweets and Daisy’s sad split, fresh evidence has emerged that strongly suggests the long-running drama is about to drive a wedge between Angela and Hodgins too!

“Everything that came together in Season 7 is going to fall apart in Season 8,” exec producer Stephen Nathan reveals in the latest installment of Fox’s “Breakfast with Bones” video series. Adds series creator Hart Hanson: “A good template for the [season is], ‘Let’s test everybody who’s in love.’”

You may remember that…

Hayden Panettiere Talks About ‘Nashville’

Hayden Panettiere Talks About ‘Nashville’
TV Line

For one, there’s Juliette Barnes, the nubile crossover sensation whose popularity is threatening to dim Rayna’s spotlight. And while Juliette has a lot to learn about acting “nice,” and even as she sets her professional and prurient sights on Rayna’s bandleader Deacon, Hayden Panettiere is quick to sing her alter ego’s praises.

I loved the previous show that Hayden had a big part in, which was Heroes, but I haven’t seen her in anything since. And Nashville doesn’t look like my kind of show. Anyone know if it’s any good? Let us know in the comments.

Ian McDiarmid - Emperor of the Universe

Ian McDiarmid - Emperor of the Universe
TOR.com

Ian McDiarmid’s panel at New York Comic Con was absolutely charming, full of warmth and plenty of interesting facts and tidbits from our favorite galaxy far, far away. But one story in particular caught the audience, and that was how he got the part of Emperor Palpatine. We’ve got the whole tale right here, word for word.

Regardless of how you feel about Star Wars and George Lucas at this point, there is no question (at least in my mind) that Ian McDiarmid was and is the right guy to be Palpatine. It is obvious he plays the role with relish. And in any event, it’s a fun story.

‘Heroes United’ Animated Iron Man and Hulk

‘Heroes United’ Animated Iron Man and Hulk
Entertainment Weekly

A new trailer for the project shows the two crimefighters battling a horde of superpowered mandroids. “Maybe I shouldn’t have built so many mandroids!” says Iron Man. “Ya think?!?!” says Hulk. (They’re such good friends!) Iron Man is voiced by Adrian Pasdar (Heroes Nathan Petrelli), while Fred Tatasciore will one again voice the big green guy.

I’m not a big fan of animated films like this, and this looks really awful to me. But I don’t think less of people who are fans of animated films like this (at least not too much less). So if you are interested, here is the trailer.

Argo (2012) — Review

4.5 of 5 stars
Argo (2012)

I’m a big boy and I can admit when I’m wrong. As it turns out, I was wrong in my pre-judgement of this film. I’m not sure why, but this film looked like a painfully laborious snoozer to me from the trailers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Argo, though a story developed on a preposterous set of real events that took place, is a well crafted and well executed film full of suspense, tension, and heart. And though the fake film being “made” in Argo, which is called Argo, is an obviously corny and cheesy over-the-top sci-fi, Argo rises so far above the films coming to the box office of…

Thanks again to Corey for submitting another reader contributed review. If he’s not careful he’s going to become a regular contributor. We welcome the interaction and collaboration, and I’m pretty sure I need to see this film now. Enjoy.

Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)

“You’re too old to be filling your head with such nonsense,” Carmen tells her daughter, Ofelia, in an early scene in Pan’s Labyrinth. “Such nonsense” is a book of fairy tales, cradled lovingly in Ofelia’s hands.

But are fairy tales nonsense? Should they be read only by the very young? Or can grown-ups learn from them, too?

For Guillermo de Toro, the answers are clearly No, No, and Yes, respectively. Pan’s Labyrinth is an R-rated tale full of fauns, faeries, and other fantastical creatures. It’s bloody and it’s dark. But it also has much to say.

A Long, Long Time Ago…

“My drug days have long since passed,” Pitt told THR as reported by The Guardian. “But I could probably land in any American city and within 24 hours find whatever you want. But we still support this charade called the drug war. We spent a trillion dollars over 40 years and a lot of people have lost their lives over it.”

“After prohibition, we regrouped and said it was a bad idea what we’re doing. Now we have a system where alcohol is illegal for children; the government profits off it; grownups can use it responsibly, which means if I go out in my car and kill some one it’s…

Casting News on ‘Reykjavik’

Christoph Waltz better get used to people wanting to touch his head: The Oscar winner has signed up to play former Soviet Union chairman Mikhail Gorbachev in Reykjavik, about the historic 1986 nuclear arms summit between Gorbachev and President Ronald Reagan (Michael Douglas). Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) is directing from a script by Kevin Hood (Becoming Jane).

I remain unconvinced that this film will be any good whatsoever. It still seems really strange for Michael Douglas to play this part. As I’ve said, it seems like a real slap in the face to get someone who is…
