Technical Explanations

Forgive me as I indulge myself in some explanation for why we suddenly went silent for over 24 hours. And please, upfront, accept my apologies, we’ll try not to let it happen again.

Nerd Details Follow (feel free to ignore)

If you are geek or nerd, you may want to know what happened. Here is the short version. MovieByte’s server environment has always been somewhat challenging. We are hosted on the same server with several other sites owned by the parent company, Liberty Alliance, which utilizes Varnish cacheing, and load balancing across several actual servers. I’ve never worked with a…

Too Many Frames Per Second?

Too Many Frames Per Second?

Yes, this is TJ harping on the frame rate thing again. First, a quick quote from an article on Film.com:

Leave it to Peter Jackson to experiment with our ocular health. His latest film, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” was shot in 48 frames per second, or double the standard going rate of 24 frames per second. The goal is pretty clear; by shooting with these high frame rate 3-D cameras, he hoped to deliver a smoother image to the movie-going public. Did it work? Or did it make people nauseous? Perhaps a little of both, but it certainly raises the question: Exactly how many frames per…

Oblivion Trailer

Oblivion Trailer

Speaking of interesting looking sci-fi trailers:

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

‘After Earth’ Trailer

‘After Earth’ Trailer

Well this is interesting. I had not seen this trailer before today, but it looks like it could be an interesting film if you’re into sci-fi as I am — well, I am at least to some extent. Maybe not as much as Corey.

This films is set apparently 1 year after cataclysmic events apparently force humans to leave earth. Will Smith and his son Jaden star in this film as a father and son who crash land on earth.

The visuals look impressive and the concept could be interesting. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for info on this film.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Sequel in Works, Mario to Appear

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Sequel in Works, Mario to Appear
Moviehole

According to Reilly, Silverman and director Rich Moore the sequel looks to be a go.

“You tell her ‘there will be [a sequel]“, says Silverman.

“They wouldn’t make [all that] merchandise, if [Disney] didn’t have plans for other [Wreck-it Ralph] stories”, adds Reilly.

“Some of the big muckety-muckets at the studio, who I just saw the other night, were like ‘We’re talking sequel!’”, Reilly reveals. “The movie made $150 million dollars in eleven days, it broke the box-office record for Disney animated movies on opening weekend. If that’s any indication that we’ll be doing a sequel… I bet…

‘Skyfall’ Takes the Box Office Again

‘Skyfall’ Takes the Box Office Again
Entertainment Weekly

In the box-office lull before the arrival The Hobbit next weekend, Skyfall returned to the number-one spot at the box office, becoming the first film since How to Train Your Dragon to lead the chart in its fifth week. It also became the highest grossing Sony release of all time. Not too shabby, Mr. Bond.

...

Even accounting for inflation, Skyfall is the fourth most successful Bond film domestically of all time, behind only the most beloved Sean Connery vehicles from the 1960s. Adjusting for inflation, Thunderball earned the equivalent of $593.9 million in 1965, Goldfinger garnered a…

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Trailer Mashup

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Trailer Mashup

The Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer has sparked a lot of conversation and speculation. One popular and persistent theory is that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Gary Mitchell from The Original Series episode, Where No Man Has Gone Before, this means in this particular theory that Alice Eve’s character would be Dr. Dehner. A lot has been made of Alice Eve’s hairstyle compared to the original Dr. Dehner from that afore mentioned episode.

Pushing the popular theory further, there is speculation that the memorial service shown in the trailer is for Gary Mitchell, perhaps events…

Parker TV Spot

Parker TV Spot

I don’t think I’ve posted anything about this yet. I can’t find it anyway. I saw this TV spot on Friday and bookmarked it to post. I’ve been seeing the theatrical trailer for a couple weeks now in my trips to the theater to see films for MovieByte.

It does look sort of interesting. However, I’m not sure how much I am going to approve morally of a film about a thief getting even with other thieves, and thieving while doing it.

In any event, here’s the TV Spot, and below that, the theatrical trailer.
