This marks Pixar’s first foray into TV specials. I suppose it was inevitable. Despite the fact that I’m not a big fan of Halloween, I suppose I like this. It looks like it will be sufficiently goofy.

Rowling! This is exciting! ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ has been delayed, it’s probably dead actually. ‘Star Wars’ spinoff films will be origin stories. Plus some talk of ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’. Then TJ and Chad dive into their review of ‘The Way Way Back’, a surprising good film.

It is rare that I enjoy a comedy film that is intended as a comedy film. I typically find the humor pretty crass and distasteful, so it’s not a genre that I go see in theaters often. However, The Way Way Back presented itself to me in the form of a free screening a month early, and what critic wouldn’t jump on that opportunity? I did, and it has become probably my favorite film of the year so far - aside from maybe Oblivion.

I have to admit, a little bit of humor can go a long way to diffuse a situation, and he handles the situation with grace and humor here.

Warner Bros. apparently advised Affleck to stay away from the net for a few days after the casting announcement in order that he might avoid the disparaging fan comments he would receive. Says he, “Well, I’m tough, I can handle it.” After reading one comment he temporarily reverted to the stone age of the pre-internet era. Fun stuff.

Well, this is kind of a bummer, but she says she has not received the phone call about appearing in the second Avengers film. But you’ve gotta figure an ensemble film like that is pretty crowded and it’s hard to focus on the various characters. As it was, she barely had a bit part in the first film. As much as it pains me to say it, because I like Pepper Potts as a character, if the film works better without her due to the ensemble nature and needing to focus in on some other character as much as possible, then I guess that’s okay.

I think the feature film reboot could be a very, very good thing for Stargate.  It’s not the version of Stargate that I want the most right now, but it’s the version that has the best chance of bringing the franchise back to life.

A rebooted film trilogy, helmed by established names and given a significant budget, would be a huge injection of life into Stargate‘s dying embers.  It won’t be the same as SG-1, Atlantis, or SGU, no.  But it will be Stargate, and it will bring millions of new people into the broader world of our fandom.

That way, in 10 years, we’ll be watching…

I’m not going to pretend that this looks like it will actually be good, but there is something intriguing about it. But then, I’m a bit of a sucker for sci-fi and/or space films. This film looks like it has elements of both a thriller, and a horror film, which “could” be okay.

But as I say I’m not holding my breath. For one thing, it’s going straight to VOD on Halloween and does not hit theaters until December 6th, and that at a limited release. You’d think if the film were any good they’d go for a full theatrical release.
