‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair’

‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair’
Germain Lussier - /Film

A few years back, it seemed like audiences might get a new Chronicles of Narnia movie ever few years. 2005 brought The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, which grossed almost $300 million domestic, but when Prince Caspian was released in 2008, that box-office take was cut nearly in half. It got to a point where, if you polled 100 people on the street, I doubt 10 of them would even know The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was released in 2010. It only grossed $100 million domestic.

Yet all three films have been much bigger successes overseas. So, after a few years of uncertainty, it seems…

‘The Wolverine’ 4-Disc Blu-ray to feature Extended and Unrated Cut

‘The Wolverine’ 4-Disc Blu-ray to feature Extended and Unrated Cut
Russ Fischer - /Film

The practice of releasing unrated extended versions of comedies and action film goes back years. But Fox has never taken that step with an X-Men film, until now.

The Wolverine, from director James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, hits disc formats on December 3, and Fox is giving fans an incentive to buy the tricked-out 4-disc blu-ray by featuring an extended, unrated cut of the film, only on that release. There are a bunch of good extras on that four-disc set beyond the new cut (including a commentary from Mangold).

THe question is, unrated because the rating would be pushed from…

Live-Action Cruella de Vil Film

Live-Action Cruella de Vil Film
Borys Kit - The Hollywood Reporter

After making a movie centered on Maleficent, the villainess from Sleeping Beauty, Disney is setting its sights on another bad lady: Cruella de Vil.

Aline Brosh McKenna has been hired to pen Cruella, which will bring the dog-fur-loving fashionista from 101 Dalmatians into a live-action feature to be produced by Andrew Gunn, who produced Sky High and Bedtime Stories for the studio. McKenna will also produce.

NO. Just no. No, no, no, no, no. Do not want.

‘Captain America 2’ Takes Place 2 Years After ‘Avengers’

‘Captain America 2’ Takes Place 2 Years After ‘Avengers’
Germain Lussier - /Film

But where do all these films fall on the timeline? Iron Man 3 takes places six months after The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World is rumored to take place about year after and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is likely somewhere in between (Extremis baddies, anyone?). That leaves The Winter Soldier and, according to co-star Scarlett Johansson, the film takes place two years after The Avengers, suggesting much more will have change after Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.

Johansson said the following in an interview:

This film is in real time. It’s been two years since [the characters] appeared, and now both are…

New Trailers for ‘Captain Phillips’

New Trailers for ‘Captain Phillips’

As we begin to see light at the end of the deep, dark tunnel of the end of summer, one of the films I’m looking forward to most in the immediate future is Captain Phillips. It sure looks like a breathtakingly good true story drama. And, you know, TOM HANKS LOOKS FANTASTIC. It looks like the type of film that has just the right mixture of drama, action, and suspense to make a great thriller. Count me in.

The film comes to theaters in just 9 days, on October 11th.

‘The Desolation of Smaug’ Featuring Benedict Cumberbatch’s Voice!

‘The Desolation of Smaug’ Featuring Benedict Cumberbatch’s Voice!

It may be heavy on the effects, but Benedict Cumberbatch’s voice as Smaug is absolutely perfect! And, in spite of my irritations with the first installment to The Hobbit trilogy, I can’t help but be excited for this.

Of course the whole indication of the love interest for Legolas in the person/elf named Tauriel (remember, she’s the addition to the cast by Peter Jackson and is not in the books — because we needed MORE CHARACTERS in this series!!!1!!!1!) is a bit odd — even irritating, but that’s par for the course with Peter Jackson I think (certainly it is these days). But, as I said, I am…

Admitting the Lens Flare Problem is the First Step to Recovery

Admitting the Lens Flare Problem is the First Step to Recovery
Alex Billington - FirstShowing.net

In an interview conducted just a few weeks ago (likely for the Blu-ray release of Into Darkness), Abrams finally manned up and admitted he has a problem: he’s addicted to lens flares. “I think admitting you’re an addict is the first step towards recovery,” he said. J.J. explains it was his wife, of all people, who finally got him to realize just how much he went overboard with lens flares.

I liked Into Darkness far better than the first installment in the reboot-verse, but man those Lens flare were still a problem. It did feel like they were toned down just a tiny bit from the first film,…

Is Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in ‘SHIELD’ Episode 2?

Is Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in ‘SHIELD’ Episode 2?

Oh ho! I think we have here what may be a major clue as the type of surprise we might expect to see at the end of this week’s Agents of SHIELD. You see, the promos keep stressing that we won’t want to miss the end of every episode.

Now in this trailer, just as announcer-voice guy says not to miss the end of the episode, the video cuts to a close up of the SHIELD logo… WEARING AND EYE PATCH. I mean that seems like a pretty solid clue, right?

It Be Raining Meatballs! — Box Office Report

I have no interest in this film, I mean really, like I don’t get it. But I hear it’s good and people would like for me not to be judgmental over it or whatever. Fine, whatever…

No really, I’ve been told it’s a pretty good film, maybe not as good as the first one, but a good film none-the-less. That’s good because it did brought in the most money. However, by percentage of budget it didn’t really do much better than Rush, which I expected to do better than it did.

#1 — Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2

Budget: $78 Million
Totals: $34 Million, Weekend / $34 Million, Gross

‘Agents of SHIELD’ Episode 2 clip

‘Agents of SHIELD’ Episode 2 clip

So it looks like Coulson bringing Skye into the fold is not being well received by some members of the team. Of course if it weren’t so, from whence would the show’s drama come, right? But seriously, on the outside, bringing her on does look like a probably mistake, which seems like the Joss Whedon thing to do, so, let’s do it!

Also, apparnetly they don’t really know what a 0-8-4 is any more than we do. But I’m sure we’ll all find out this week!
