That Was Your Master Plan?

That Was Your Master Plan?

TJ and Joseph discuss ‘The Host’ and the new trailer for the upcoming feature film based on Stephanie Meyer’s first post-Twilight book, the idea that Darth Vader might come back for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, Michael Arndt writing ‘Star Wars VII’, ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ newest trailer, ‘Arrested Development’ being picked up by streaming video service Netflix as well as an original show, ‘House of Cards’, and they spend some time talking about how the industry can move forward and move toward a more on-demand model. Then they get down to the main topic, ‘Skyfall’. Neither TJ nor Joseph were quite as blown away by this film as the rest of the world seems to be and they discuss why that is and why everyone else may like it so much, and why it was after all a decent film. They discuss likes, dislikes, what they would have liked to see different and more.

‘Fringe’ Five-Twenty-Ten Promo

‘Fringe’ Five-Twenty-Ten Promo

We’re sneaking up on the final episode now. The landing gear has been extended, but air speed does not seem to be reduced.

In the last two episodes, it looks like Peter is running full tilt into very bad territory. I really have no idea where they are going with this.

Serious Adaptation of ‘Superman’

Serious Adaptation of ‘Superman’
LA Times - Zack Snyder Interview

It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What…

‘The Hobbit’ Streaming Soundtrack

‘The Hobbit’ Streaming Soundtrack

The Hobbit may not be coming out for another month, but we’ve got the full soundtrack by Howard Shore right here. As far as I can tell, Empire Online first posted this player widget.

Due to copyright concerns you can’t skip around to different portions or tracks in the music, but it’s still a fun listen.

Beginning December 10th, the Soundtrack will be available for purchase in both a standard edition and a deluxe edition. I’d wager it will be worth owning regardless of how the film turns out. I’ve only listened to the first few minutes and I already love it. Howard Shore has returned…

‘Skyfall’ Opening Title Sequence

‘Skyfall’ Opening Title Sequence

I’m not exactly jumping up and down with excitement about the newest Bond film the way the rest of the world seems to be. Still, it was a decent film, and had some truly great scenes and moments in it.

One of the great things about this film is its opening title sequence. I was not a big fan of the opening title sequences of the previous two Daniel Craig Bond films, but this third film had a pretty awesome one. And for your viewing pleasure, it is embedded below.

Call me a geek, or a nut, or whatever, but details like this really set the tone for a film. A well done opening title…

‘The Host’ Trades Vampires for Aliens

‘The Host’ Trades Vampires for Aliens

It looks like Stephanie Meyer’s new book, The Host, is getting a feature film. Not surprising given the success of the film adaptations of her Twilight series.

I do have to say, I have some interest in this film, though it also looks like it may have a cheesy love story it in as well (understand I’m coming from a perspective of not having read the books and knowing nothing about the plot except what I see in the trailer here).

Also, aliens taking over a human body reminds me a bit of the Goa’uld from Stargate SG1, right down to the glowing eyes. Maybe Meyer is a fan?

Anyway, time will…

‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Trailer 2

‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Trailer 2

You know, this is actually looking pretty good. I really liked the Spider-Man trilogy (yes, all three), and so having Sam Raimi at the helm is encouraging to me. And man, those visuals. Whatever else the film is, it will be beautiful for sure.

Oz the Great and Powerful hits theaters next spring and stars James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, and Michelle Williams.

‘Wreck-it Ralph’ Sound Design

‘Wreck-it Ralph’ Sound Design

Here’s another fun one. I really enjoyed the sound design of Wreck-it Ralph, actually I enjoyed the whole film, and certainly the sound design aspect of it. It was appropriately nostalgic at times, and really added to the feel of the film, and it’s retro appeal.

Enjoy.

‘House of Cards’ - Original Netflix Drama

‘House of Cards’ - Original Netflix Drama

I find it interesting to see the phenomenon of original content airing on Hulu and Netflix. Frankly none of the shows up until now to do this have looked remotely interesting to me, but I do applaud the idea. This seems to be the only way forward since the networks and existing infrastructure are just not forward thinking enough to realize where they need to be going — what the future of television will ultimately look like. They cling to existing, dying business models as one might cling to the rails of a sinking ship. One of my biggest frustrations as a cable cutter is that I can’t watch…

Tommy Lee Jones Discusses ‘Lincoln’

Tommy Lee Jones Discusses ‘Lincoln’
Moviefone

Tommy Lee Jones’ life story is as interesting to me as his no-nonsense movie characters. It’s not often that we hear about his acting technique, relationship to his fellow stars, or his thoughts on American history.

In Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Mr. Jones plays Congressman Thaddeus Stevens. Sharon Knolle pinned Tommy down for a fun interview.

As he says of Stevens’s and Lincoln’s often-contentious relationship, “They could laugh together.” Jones also discussed whether Stevens could exist in today’s political climate and the fiery on-screen exchange he has with Sally Field’s character,…
