Iran Says ‘Argo’ Politically Motivated

Iran Says ‘Argo’ Politically Motivated
Entertainment Weekly

Iran’s state TV dismissed the Oscar-winning film Argo on Monday as an “advertisement for the CIA” and some Iranians called the award a political statement by America for its unflattering portrayal of the aftermath of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Well of course they say that.

And while Argo has not appeared in any Iranian cinema, there has been no shortage of buzz from those who saw the movie through bootleg DVD networks.

The discussions over Argo in Iran have often pried open a generational divide: Iranians who took part in the 1979 Islamic Revolution picking apart the portrayals…

Bryan Singer to “Fix” ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’

Bryan Singer to “Fix” ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’
/Film

Bryan Singer‘s first two X-Men movies are generally very well-regarded. They were so well-regarded, in fact, that Singer was given the keys to the biggest superhero of them all: Superman, leaving the door open for Brett Ratner to direct the third film, X-Men: The Last Stand. The results were disappointing. The Last Stand looked like an X-Men film, but the script was all over the place, killing major characters and all but destroying the franchise. Thankfully, Matthew Vaughn swooped in to fixed much of the damage with the reboot X-Men: First Class.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I…

Captain Kirk Visits the Academy Awards

Captain Kirk Visits the Academy Awards

Captain James T. Kirk made a visit to the Academy Awards last night. He traveled back in time all the way from the 23rd century to try to help MacFarlane out and prevent him from being the worst host ever.

Seriously William Shatner may be starting to show his age a bit (he’s going to be 82 this year, can you believe it?) but it was good to see him in that uniform again — and I still think that uniform design from the post The Motion Picture Original Series Trek films is the best… but I’m losing my train of thought here.

Check out the video below to see Captain Kirk at the Oscars.

Jack the Giant Slayer - Featurette 1

Jack the Giant Slayer - Featurette 1

Who’s ready to see what Bryan Singer has been up to with Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Ian McShane, and Bill Nighy? I sure am!

Everything Wrong with ‘Inception’

Everything Wrong with ‘Inception’

While Inception was okay, it was certainly not Nolan’s best work by any stretch of the imagination. And now, we have the proof! Cinema sins has done a good job of encapsulating everything wrong in Inception. If you love the film, well you might not want to let this spoil it for you!

We Will See Klingons This Summer!

We Will See Klingons This Summer!
The Playlist

As usual, J.J. Abrams has done his best to keep a tight lid on the project which is sure to leave fans both excited and frustrated. But for those who were wondering whether we’d get to see any familiar faces that weren’t in the first film, you can at least count on this: the Klingons will be back.

As Abrams told MTV News, “Their role in this is definitely adversarial and you’ll see how that plays out.” What exactly that entails could be anyone’s guess at this point.

Great! The Klingons were always great villains. I’m surprised J.J. is confirming it though, being a man known for his…

Gollum Dreams a Dream

Gollum Dreams a Dream

I don’t know whether to laugh or shake my head, or run away screaming at how horrendous this is…

But I think I’m landing on the side of funny so, here you go, I’m sharing it with you.

And now, having watched that, I’m guessing your raction, like mine, went a little something like this:

An Aspect Ratio Visual Essay

An Aspect Ratio Visual Essay

Oh aspect ratio, how you vex us! I can remember when I was younger seeing the caption at the beginning of a film on VHS, “This film has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit this screen,” and wondering what it meant. Now of course that I know what it means it makes me upset and angry that doing that was ever a thing. In the video below, the talk is of how cinematographers composed for many different aspect ratios and how things might be either cut off or shown in different contexts, mattes, and aspect ratios. I wish that all films could be shot and composed…

140-Square Foot Battle of Hoth in Living Room

140-Square Foot Battle of Hoth in Living Room
/Film

Oh, you thought you were a Star Wars nerd did you? Not so fast:

Think you’re a Star Wars fan? You’ve got nothing on Barry. Barry turned one of his rooms, the entire room, into a 140 square-foot recreation of the Battle of Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back. From AT-ATs and Snowtroopers, to Snow Speeders and explosions; it’s all there in painstaking detail.

Well okay then. I don’t know why you would want to do this, but okay then.
