Are you guys sitting down? This is a staggering amount of money. Staggering. Captain America: The Winter Soldier has raked in $303.3 Million worldwide. That’s more than the majority of films make over their lifetime.

The domestic breakdown is $96.2 Million, while the foreign total is $207.1 Million, making this a truly international phenomenon.

Amazon today announced their own set-top box to compete with Apple TV and Roku. The $99 Amazon Fire TV Set-Top Box, which begins shipping today, features a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM.

Speaking at the inaugural Code/Media event held by technology website Re/code (via CNET), Roku CEO and founder Anthony Wood called the Apple TV “a money loser” for Apple, likening the product to an accessory for the iPad and questioning why Apple would want to sell more units of the device. This is not exactly the film that the trailers tried to sell. And it’s definitely not the film many critics would have you believe either. They’ve been a little bit rough on this film. Yes, at times it felt like it was sticking a bit too much to the “young adult” formula, but I did find it to be pretty good.

Getting back to the trailers though, what was up with that? I could hazard a guess that they were really trying to sell it hard as a YA romance thing and put as much of that as they could in the trailers because what’s in the trailers is nearly all there is. Then there was the way that…

I sure hope he’s in it. His role may have been small in The Incredibles but I loved Frozone. And Samuel L. Jackson is always a great addition to almost any film.

Still not sure I care about this one really. I’m also not sure what I need to have already watched in the Planet of the Apes movie franchise in order for this film to work (if anything). I think someone told me I only need to see the James Franco film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I’ve put it in my Netflix queue but I’m not all that excited about it.

Somehow I missed the first trailer for this film, but this second trailer looks quite amazing. Of course I thought there was a chance that the Wachowskis previous film, Cloud Atlas was going to be good too and it was instead quite terrible. But there is an entirely different vibe to this film. Together with the German tech-log www.curved.de I worked out an upgrade to the current Apple TV, the box that is.

These sorts of things are fun, but I can’t see Apple really doing much of it. We’ll almost certainly see a new Apple TV this year (or maybe next depending on how overwhelmed Apple’s hardware team are feeling this year), but I expect it to be a more conservative update.
