‘The Wolverine 2’, ‘The Fantastic Four’, and ‘Prometheus 2’

Rodrigo Perez — The Playlist

Well, that didn’t last too long. Last week 20th Century Fox announced a rash of future dates going as far as 2018. The big eye-grabber was a trio of super hero films, “The Wolverine 2,” a sequel to “The Fantastic Four” even with the first movie yet to start shooting and an Untitled Marvel Mystery movie for summer 2018, which has still not been revealed.

Only a few steps behind in the curiosity factor was an unnamed project for March 2016. Fans asked: what could it be? “Blade Runner 2”? No, that’s at Alcon/Warner Brothers and not at Fox, so it’s out. “The Forever War” maybe? Something else?…

Andy Serkis Will Direct Warner Bros. Version of ‘The Jungle Book’
Angie Han — /Film

Andy Serkis is going to go from playing CG animals to directing them. The acclaimed mo-cap actor is set to helm Warner Bros.’ live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book, based onRudyard Kipling‘s classic tales about an orphan boy raised in the jungle.

Although Serkis has served as a second unit director on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy,The Jungle Book marks his feature directorial debut.

Dang. Now I just got interested in both of these Jungle Book Films on their way to us. Blast!

So what was the real reason Pixar canceled Newt? Well, the animation company’s president Ed Catmull revealed in a recent article just why director Gary Rydstrom’s long-gestating animated feature never saw the light of day.

As part of a series of conversations with Fast Company to promote his new book Creativity Inc., Catmull said of the failed project, “Newt was another unlikely idea that wasn’t working. When we gave it to somebody new [Pete Docter, director of Up], he said, ‘I’ll do it, but I have another idea altogether, which I think is better.’ And we thought it was better too. That was…

‘Pirates 5’ Has Not Been Given a Green Light

‘Pirates 5’ Has Not Been Given a Green Light
Germain Lussier – /Film

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is currently in limbo, thanks to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Iger did a conference call on Tuesday and made it rain with news. He mentioned The Incredibles 2Star Wars Episode VII, and also mentioned that, despite directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg  being attached, the studio has yet to green light the long-in-development fifth film in the mega-blockbuster franchise starring Johnny Depp.

And some people say there is no God.

‘Peanuts’ Teaser Trailer

‘Peanuts’ Teaser Trailer

I suppose by some measures of time, it was long overdue for someone to take advantage of this franchise. I can’t say I’m particularly excited about the money machines getting ahold of this one, but I have to say the teaser trailer does definitely get me excited about this film.

I wasn’t, and I’m still not too sure about the idea of a CGI 3D animation of The Peanuts, but I suppose I’ll give it a chance. I mean, IT’S SNOOPY! Look at him! And Good Grief Charlie Brown!

Veronica Mars, UltraViolet, And Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

Moisés Chiullan — TechHive

The campaign to revive Veronica Mars delivered a number of cool things—an enormous number of new Kickstarter users and, lest we forget, a full-length motion picture of a deeply loved TV series that arrived Friday. But the movie’s arrival introduced something else to Veronica Mars fans: their first interaction with the UltraViolet video locker service, the method the movie’s distributors are using to fulfill the downloads promised to people who backed the movie on Kickstarter. It’s been ugly, to say the least.

UltraViolet is the worst of the worst when it comes to studios trying to keep…

SyFy Wants Back Into… Well… SciFi

SyFy Wants Back Into… Well… SciFi
Darren — GateWorld

This has to be good news to any fan of Stargate or quality science fiction: Syfy Channel, the cable network that took a lot of heat for changing its name and effectively walking away from the genre a few years ago, wants to get back in the game.

The network wants to do fewer procedurals and B-movies and more traditional, scripted science fiction drama — be it regular series or high-profile mini-series events.

Hmm. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…

Look, SyFy has had some good shows over the years. Some really good shows. AND THEY’VE CANCELED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM… Read The Rest

Alright Marshmallows, It’s Time! — What To See This Weekend

Alright Marshmallows, It’s Time! — What To See This Weekend

You kickstarted it, you wanted it, you deserve it, and now — provided you live in an area where there is an AMC theater, you’ve got it. The Veronica Mars movie is here, and it looks as good as the series was from what I can tell. And it’s about the only thing new this weekend that’s really worth checking out.

New This Weekend

Veronica Mars — PG-13

If this were playing anywhere near me, and if I was finished watching the series, this would be my film of choice this weekend. Unfortunately neither of those things is true. In order to see this fine looking film, you are going to need an AMC…

Mr. Peabody & Sherman — Review

3.5 of 5 stars
Mr. Peabody & Sherman

As you may have heard on Episode 81 of The MovieByte Podcast, I had to work hard to convince TJ to see this film rather than the much manlier 300: Rise of an Empire, which I have absolutely no interest in ever seeing. That being said, I was hopeful that this movie would be worth the money to see it in the theater, both for TJ’s and my sakes. While it may not have been as good as I had hoped, I do think that it ended up being a pretty decent family film that I would certainly say is worth the money. Note: a few spoilers ahead, but no major ones.

Chad’s ‘Divergent’ Trilogy Book Review

Chad’s ‘Divergent’ Trilogy Book Review
Chad Hopkins - ChadLikesMovies

Hey guys. As you should know, the film adaptation of the first book in Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy, titled Divergent (duh), is set to be released next week. The trailer alone didn’t get me interested at all even though I felt like I should be excited for what looked to be “the next Hunger Games.” In an attempt to remedy that, I read the whole trilogy this past week and loved it! For some non-spoilery thoughts on the trilogy as a whole, head on over to my site to read the full review. Here’s the general gist of it:

Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy continues to prove that the world of…
