It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen this much consensus amongst the critics. That must mean something, right? I mean it does look like it should be a really great film. And I keep hearing from critics who have already seen it that it is the space movie they have always wanted — whatever that means. I am very much looking forward to the film and am looking forward to reviewing it…

What a difference a week makes. The second episode of marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fell to a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating from last week’s huge 4.7. Full morning ratings coming soon!

That’s an unfortunate second week. I think as I’ve discussed on the podcast that the hype surrounding the show really made people’s expectations soar to heights unknown. I mean I don’t know exactly what they thought they were expecting, but it is just a TV show. I think it’s a really good TV show at that, with a lot of potential. And let’s not forget there are a lot of episodes for this thing to get ramped up…

It may be heavy on the effects, but Benedict Cumberbatch’s voice as Smaug is absolutely perfect! And, in spite of my irritations with the first installment to The Hobbit trilogy, I can’t help but be excited for this.

Of course the whole indication of the love interest for Legolas in the person/elf named Tauriel (remember, she’s the addition to the cast by Peter Jackson and is not in the books — because we needed MORE CHARACTERS in this series!!!1!!!1!) is a bit odd — even irritating, but that’s par for the course with Peter Jackson I think (certainly it is these days). In an interview conducted just a few weeks ago (likely for the Blu-ray release of Into Darkness), Abrams finally manned up and admitted he has a problem: he’s addicted to lens flares. “I think admitting you’re an addict is the first step towards recovery,” he said. Oh ho! I think we have here what may be a major clue as the type of surprise we might expect to see at the end of this week’s Agents of SHIELD. You see, the promos keep stressing that we won’t want to miss the end of every episode.

Now in this trailer, just as announcer-voice guy says not to miss the end of the episode, the video cuts to a close up of the SHIELD logo… WEARING AND EYE PATCH. I mean that seems like a pretty solid clue, right?

I have no interest in this film, I mean really, like I don’t get it. But I hear it’s good and people would like for me not to be judgmental over it or whatever. Fine, whatever…

No really, I’ve been told it’s a pretty good film, maybe not as good as the first one, but a good film none-the-less. That’s good because it did brought in the most money. However, by percentage of budget it didn’t really do much better than Rush, which I expected to do better than it did.

This video is amazingly awesome! I agree with everything said here. And yes, Star Wars is (or was when it was good) a western.

If you watch only one thing today, make it this! Plus the animation is amazing. Seriously, I really hope JJ Abrams watches this about 50 dozen times, internalizes it, takes it to heart, and then he can go make a great Star Wars film.

Based on Nielsen’s Live + 3 Day TV playback data released this morning, ABC’s Tuesday debut of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. saw its Adult 18-49 number spike by +1.78 rating points from a 4.70 L+SD to a 6.48 L+3 rating, making it the biggest absolute gainer for any show this season and solidifying its standing as theseason’s #1 new series.  The ABC drama debut also saw its Total Viewer count surge by 3.7 million, building from 12.1 million viewers in Live + Same Day to 15.8 million in Live + 3 Days.
