‘Cloud Atlas’ is Too Intellectual…

‘Cloud Atlas’ is Too Intellectual…
The Hollywood Reporter

“Of course the U.S. release was disappointing, but it hasn’t changed our release plans,” A Company topper Alexander van Dulmen told THR. “Cloud Atlas has a more intellectual approach and theEuropean audience is more open to movies where you have to think a bit.”

Either that or it was just stupid. But then, maybe I’m just one of those dumb Americans and don’t have any intelectual chops or something.

Whatever. I maintain my opinion on how awful this film is.

‘Revolution Revealed: Episode 6’

‘Revolution Revealed: Episode 6’

Revolution is definitely in the phase where they are showing us just how flawed our protagonists are. Aaron left his wife not long after the blackout and even if there was some sort of noble intention of doing that, you just don’t leave your wife! Charlie nearly killed someone because she thought her and her friends (not to mention brother) were more important than anything else. We found out a few episodes ago that Miles was the big head honcho of the Monroe Militia in years gone by and was one of the reasons such a corrupt organization was founded, not a kind or caring group, in fact they…

Significant Hurdles to More ‘Indiana Jones’

Significant Hurdles to More ‘Indiana Jones’
Entertainment Weekly

Well, it’s complicated. During a shareholders conference call on Tuesday, Disney chief Bob Iger said there were “some encumbrances” to monetizing Indiana Jones. It appears that is a bit of an understatement. EW has confirmed that Paramount Pictures, heretofore the franchise’s sole Hollywood home, retains the rights to distribute any future Indiana Jones movies, as well as all the rights (from distribution to DVD/Blu-ray) for the previous four Indy films. That alone wouldn’t prevent a fifth Indiana Jones from happening — Paramount holds similar distribution rights for several Marvel Studios…

Maximizing Its Value

Maximizing Its Value
Marco.org

Now that’s what fans want to hear: a major, well-loved, culturally significant creative work was sold to global lines of business so they can maximize its value.

Translation: they’re going to beat Star Wars to death even more than George Lucas did, extracting every possible penny out of it until there’s no more money to be made. And that’s probably a long way off.

Well that’s a depressing way to look at it. And probably the most accurate too.

And I figured we’d get the depressing stuff out of the way this morning.

Who should and shouldn’t direct ‘Star Wars VII’

Who should and shouldn’t direct ‘Star Wars VII’

/Film has a list of ten filmmakers who should direct the new Star Wars film and five who shouldn’t:

Keep in mind that these aren’t necessarily the names we think are the most likely to get the call, or that they’d even be interested in the gig in the first place. And of course, all of this is assuming that Disney actually wants to go with a big-name filmmaker — it’s certainly possible they’ll go with someone less established or more obscure. With that said, we’re still at the point where just about anything seems possible with this project. Why not fantasize a bit?

I’m not going to…

Writers and Directors Weigh in on ‘Star Wars VII’

Writers and Directors Weigh in on ‘Star Wars VII’
Entertainment Weekly

Some of the biggest Star Wars fans in the world are the Hollywood writers, directors, and producers who bought a ticket for a Jedi movie in the 1970s and 1980s. On Tuesday, as headlines announced a new hope for a return to Star Wars glory, those Tinseltown loyalists were hit by the Force all over again.

“All I can say is my heart literally started racing when I heard,” said Damon Lindleof, screenwriter for Prometheus. George Nolfi, writer-director of The Adjustment Bureau, said the horizon will need to be bigger to handle the colossal project taking shape there. “I can’t imagine,” Nolfi…

Red Dawn TV Spot

Red Dawn is releasing this month so we can expect the marketing to really start ramping up.

Here’s a new TV spot. It looks like it could be a decent action flick, probably nothing more than that.

A Series of ‘Star Wars’ Films

A Series of ‘Star Wars’ Films
FilmoFilia.com

After agreeing a deal to buy George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Ltd, Disney is to make a new series of Star Wars franchise.

The companies have set 2015 as a release target for Star Wars: Episode 7, with Episode 8 and Episode 9 to follow as the long-term plan is to release a new feature every two or three years.

And:

Die-hard Star Wars fans (TheForce.net) say that a big-screen adaptation of the first book, ‘Heir to the Empire’ from ‘Thrawn Trilogy’ by Timothy Zahn would make the most logical Episode 7.

No, just no. Please, no. Does everyone realize they would have to recast all the…

It’s Official, Bryan Singer Will Direct Next ‘X-Men’

It’s Official, Bryan Singer Will Direct Next ‘X-Men’
/Film

Last week, we learned that X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn would not be returning to direct the sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, as had been previously expected. While that made for some disappointing news, perhaps the latest update on the project will cheer you up.

Bryan Singer has officially closed his deal to direct the upcoming film, confirming rumors that the First Class producer would swap places with the First Class helmer for Days of Future Past.

This is good news to me. As I mentioned before, the best X-Men films have been the films he directed so I think this is…

Skywalker, Meet Mickey Mouse

Skywalker, Meet Mickey Mouse

When the news broke yesterday that George Lucas was passing off the Star Wars baton (or should I say, lightsaber) to Disney, I didn’t know what to think. I still don’t.

Allow me to clarify: I do know this is a big deal. I do not know if I should be happy about it.

On the one hand, it’s something of a relief to know that Lucas won’t be running his grubby fingers all over the franchise anymore. The guy did well with the first three films, but his handling of the prequels was so criminally poor it blew our minds in all the wrong ways. As a friend of mine put it, “If I ever met George…
