‘The Desolation of Smaug’ Featuring Benedict Cumberbatch’s Voice!

‘The Desolation of Smaug’ Featuring Benedict Cumberbatch’s Voice!

It may be heavy on the effects, but Benedict Cumberbatch’s voice as Smaug is absolutely perfect! And, in spite of my irritations with the first installment to The Hobbit trilogy, I can’t help but be excited for this.

Of course the whole indication of the love interest for Legolas in the person/elf named Tauriel (remember, she’s the addition to the cast by Peter Jackson and is not in the books — because we needed MORE CHARACTERS in this series!!!1!!!1!) is a bit odd — even irritating, but that’s par for the course with Peter Jackson I think (certainly it is these days). But, as I said, I am…

Is Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in ‘SHIELD’ Episode 2?

Is Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in ‘SHIELD’ Episode 2?

Oh ho! I think we have here what may be a major clue as the type of surprise we might expect to see at the end of this week’s Agents of SHIELD. You see, the promos keep stressing that we won’t want to miss the end of every episode.

Now in this trailer, just as announcer-voice guy says not to miss the end of the episode, the video cuts to a close up of the SHIELD logo… WEARING AND EYE PATCH. I mean that seems like a pretty solid clue, right?

4 Rules to Make ‘Star Wars’ Great Again

4 Rules to Make ‘Star Wars’ Great Again

This video is amazingly awesome! I agree with everything said here. And yes, Star Wars is (or was when it was good) a western.

If you watch only one thing today, make it this! Plus the animation is amazing. Seriously, I really hope JJ Abrams watches this about 50 dozen times, internalizes it, takes it to heart, and then he can go make a great Star Wars film.

‘Star Trek: Enterprise’ Season 3 Blu-ray Trailer

‘Star Trek: Enterprise’ Season 3 Blu-ray Trailer

Yeah, yeah, I know Enterprise was not as great as most of the rest of the Star Trek franchise, but it actually got quite good in seaons 3 and 4, to the point that I was sad when it was canceled. Hate on me all you want, but season 3 is some pretty good Star Trek. It may not ever have soared to the height of drama brought to us by Captain Sisko during the dominion war. And it may not have delighted the way TNG did in its hay day, but it was better than some of the stuff we have on TV these days. And season 3 really pulled me into the show in a way that seasons 1 and 2 failed to do. And I…

Joss Whedon Wants To Create New Content Again

Joss Whedon Wants To Create New Content Again
Ken Guidry - The Playlist

Post-Avengers, you can probably pick the next property that you want to play with. What’s one you’ve always wanted to do?
There’s probably a dozen. It’s very important I don’t do that. It’s very important that we start creating new content again. We can only build on nostalgia so much before we have nothing left to build on. Before we’re rebooting Spider-Man—again. It’s dangerous to the culture, and it’s boring to me. I squeezed in between my Avengers movies a 400-year-old play. So I really need to create some new worlds.

Makers make things, and this maker wants to make things. And I agree…

‘Superman’ Kills

‘Superman’ Kills
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

One of the most controversial points of the already uneven “Man Of Steel” this past summer, was the decision (spoiler alert) to have Superman kill General Zod. Christopher Nolan wasn’t initially a fan of taking it in that direction (early drafts had Zod sent to the Phantom Zone instead), while comics writer Mark Waid (of “Superman: Birthright” fame) was nothing short of enraged by what he saw in theaters. But speaking at the BATFA and BFI Screenwriters’ Lecture last night, writer David S. Goyer defended his choice to put blood on the hands of Clark Kent.

“This is one area, and I’ve written…

Joss Whedon Talks ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Joss Whedon Talks ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Clark did not have a great time in The Avengers, I don’t know if you noticed but things went kind of south for him.

Good to hear that Colson really was dead though. A lot of fans and people who think they know have told me that they thought the intension was always to bring him back and they new he wasn’t really dead and blah, blah blah. Well Joss himseslf says that was not the intention until they started talking about the Agents of SHIELD TV show.

Anyway, this if fun. Enjoy.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Ultron…

Everything you ever wanted to know about Ultron…

…but were too afraid to ask.

That’s right, in this video from IGN, we get the speed version of Ultron’s history, which is helpful for people like me who are fans of the movies but not of the comic books.

Obviously, the Ultron we’re going to see in the upcoming Avengers film will not be the Ultron of the comic books, but know a little bit about the history of the character seems like a good thing. Plus, I live the editing and sassy cuts in this video. Check it out:

‘World War Z’ Honest Trailer

“This time, it has Brad Pitt…

Bwaas!”

Man I love these trailers. World War Z wasn’t a bad film, but it did have its problems, as highlighted here.

‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Predicted to Reach $950 Million

‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Predicted to Reach $950 Million
Dave McNary - Variety

Lionsgate’s upcoming “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is projected to gross $950 million in worldwide box office, according to a new Wall Street analyst’s report.

Alan Gould of Evercore predicted that the film, starring Jennifer Lawrence, will gross $375 million domestically and another $575 million internationally. Last year’s “The Hunger Games” grossed $408 million in the U.S. and another $283 million overseas.

I don’t know how they measure these sorts of things or predict them or whatever before hand, but if this does happen, I think it will be a good thing. I expect this film to be a…
