I think this series is getting better with each successive film. That’s what it looks like to me. Mockingjay Part 1 seems no less fantastic than Catching Fire if this trailer is to be believed. And given that it’s the same team at the helm, I don’t know why I wouldn’t believe it.

I love a good parody as you will already know. The guys at HISHE do pretty good work. It seems like they haven’t been putting out a lot of stuff recently, which makes it all the more exciting when they release something. Not too long ago, they started doing something called The Villain Pub, which is sort of analogous to the Super Cafe, but obviously for the villains. They’ve been introducing it slowly at the end or during one of their regular How it Should Have Ended videos.

What’s so funny is that I’m an avid honest trailer watcher. I love it, it cracks me up. So I think we talked about it in the commentary we used to sit in the room and go, “this is not going to end up in an Honest Trailer. This logic isn’t sound enough yet.” We literally tried to Honest Trailer proof the movie. Because what Honest Trailers really is, and I’ll say litmus test again, is “how sound is the logic in your film? How ridiculous are the buys that you’re asking the audience to make?” So we would just comb through the script over and over again and go, “how do we shore up this logic?…

For Jon Stewart, last night’s screening of his directorial debut, Rosewater, was a glorious homecoming of sorts. After all, he filmed Death to Smoochy in Toronto. But last night’s standing-room-only showing at the Toronto Film Festival was a true celebration, and before the screening, Stewart joked that Canada’s earnest warm reception felt like sarcasm to a cynical New Yorker like himself. Godzilla is one of those films that sours the more I think about it and the further removed I am from the watching of it. It just didn’t live up to the hype and was not at all the movie we were promised in the trailers. So while Honest Trailers will so often be an over-the-top critique of films I actually liked, this one hits much closer to home. Don’t get me wrong, even when I love the movie, I usually always enjoy the Honest Trailer, but this one is just spot on with actual criticism.

I can’t decide whether I’m looking forward to this film or not. But I am keeping an eye on it in any event. It certainly looks grand and epic. Obviously the director of Gladiator directing this picture is interesting in theory. But I also know I will be extremely hard to please with a Biblical film. As with other Biblicaly based films, I will attempt to judge it on two levels, 1). is it a good film — does it tell a good story and is it fun and engaging? and 2). how does it measure up to the Biblical tale?

You know, it’s funny. I saw this come through my RSS feeds and I thought, That’s weird, I didn’t remember that I subscribed to CinemaSins but whatever. And so I clicked on it and watched it. I know this video has been out for a while, but I only just became aware of it via /Film (yes I have been aware of and have the original Despeicialized Editions of Star Wars, I’m talking about this particular little documentary).

It’s a really fantastic look at just how much work fans — and particularly the fan who calls himself Harmy — is putting into this restoration process. And it looks pretty good too. Can you imagine how much better it would be if Fox/Disney/Lucasfilm would just do a restoration from the original negative? Unfortunately I think we’re going to have to keep dreaming on…
