First Full Trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’

First Full Trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’

I think this series is getting better with each successive film. That’s what it looks like to me. Mockingjay Part 1 seems no less fantastic than Catching Fire if this trailer is to be believed. And given that it’s the same team at the helm, I don’t know why I wouldn’t believe it.

It does seem as if Katiniss’ interactions with President Snow might be upped and deviated a bit from the book, but I think that will actually be a good thing. Again, just from the trailer, but I continue to be impressed with Jennifer Lawrence’s ability to portray basically the way I had envisioned the character in…

STAR WARS SPOILERS - Aerial Shot of X-Wings and Millennium Falcon

STAR WARS SPOILERS - Aerial Shot of X-Wings and Millennium Falcon
Latino Review

THE WHAT?:  It’s a column on Star Wars news and rumors and therefore contains SPOILERS and SPECULATION. This time, more spoilers than speculation.

THIS WEEK: APPLE WATCH AIN’T GOT NOTHING ON ME. Exclusive photos of the badassest X-Wing to get the movie treatment, plus some details about X-Wings in Episode VII.

Yeah, so, obvious spoilers ahead.

And now for the main event! NEWS! (Or Rumors, depending on your personal categorization and general mistrust of a guy who acts the way I do).

We live in an age where airplane pilots and drones are getting our set photos for us,…

‘Villain Pub - To the Tailor!’

‘Villain Pub - To the Tailor!’

I love a good parody as you will already know. The guys at HISHE do pretty good work. It seems like they haven’t been putting out a lot of stuff recently, which makes it all the more exciting when they release something. Not too long ago, they started doing something called The Villain Pub, which is sort of analogous to the Super Cafe, but obviously for the villains. They’ve been introducing it slowly at the end or during one of their regular How it Should Have Ended videos.

So without further ado, here’s the new Villain Pub.

Also, I found a video of all the other Villain Pubs put…

How ‘Honest Trailers’ Made ‘The Winter Soldier’ a Better Film

How ‘Honest Trailers’ Made ‘The Winter Soldier’ a Better Film
Angie Han — /Film

What’s so funny is that I’m an avid honest trailer watcher. I love it, it cracks me up. So I think we talked about it in the commentary we used to sit in the room and go, “this is not going to end up in an Honest Trailer. This logic isn’t sound enough yet.” We literally tried to Honest Trailer proof the movie. Because what Honest Trailers really is, and I’ll say litmus test again, is “how sound is the logic in your film? How ridiculous are the buys that you’re asking the audience to make?” So we would just comb through the script over and over again and go, “how do we shore up this logic?…

Jon Stewart Talks About ‘Rosewater’

Jon Stewart Talks About ‘Rosewater’
Jeff Labrecque

For Jon Stewart, last night’s screening of his directorial debut, Rosewater, was a glorious homecoming of sorts. After all, he filmed Death to Smoochy in Toronto. But last night’s standing-room-only showing at the Toronto Film Festival was a true celebration, and before the screening, Stewart joked that Canada’s earnest warm reception felt like sarcasm to a cynical New Yorker like himself. Afterwards, the audience responded with a standing ovation, as much for the real Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari, who was imprisoned and accused of being a spy by Iranian authorities, as the cast and…

‘Godzilla’ - The Honest Trailer

‘Godzilla’ - The Honest Trailer

Godzilla is one of those films that sours the more I think about it and the further removed I am from the watching of it. It just didn’t live up to the hype and was not at all the movie we were promised in the trailers. So while Honest Trailers will so often be an over-the-top critique of films I actually liked, this one hits much closer to home. Don’t get me wrong, even when I love the movie, I usually always enjoy the Honest Trailer, but this one is just spot on with actual criticism.

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Featurette

‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ Featurette

I can’t decide whether I’m looking forward to this film or not. But I am keeping an eye on it in any event. It certainly looks grand and epic. Obviously the director of Gladiator directing this picture is interesting in theory. But I also know I will be extremely hard to please with a Biblical film. As with other Biblicaly based films, I will attempt to judge it on two levels, 1). is it a good film — does it tell a good story and is it fun and engaging? and 2). how does it measure up to the Biblical tale?

Here’s a featurette where Mr. Scott talks about the film a little and we get to see…

Everything Wrong with ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ in 13 Minutes or Less

Everything Wrong with ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ in 13 Minutes or Less

You know, it’s funny. I saw this come through my RSS feeds and I thought, That’s weird, I didn’t remember that I subscribed to CinemaSins but whatever. And so I clicked on it and watched it. And then I thought, huh, these are better than I remember. And then I thought, wait, did Jon Bailey always do these? I finally figured it out. Screen Junkies switched with Cinema Sins. Screen Junkies did an “Everything Wrong With…” video, and CinemaSins did an Honest Trailer.

I loved the “Everything Wrong With…” from Screen Junkies and didn’t like CinemaSins Honest Trailer proving to me that it’s not…

Descpecializing ‘Star Wars’

Descpecializing ‘Star Wars’

I know this video has been out for a while, but I only just became aware of it via /Film (yes I have been aware of and have the original Despeicialized Editions of Star Wars, I’m talking about this particular little documentary).

It’s a really fantastic look at just how much work fans — and particularly the fan who calls himself Harmy — is putting into this restoration process. And it looks pretty good too. Can you imagine how much better it would be if Fox/Disney/Lucasfilm would just do a restoration from the original negative? Unfortunately I think we’re going to have to keep dreaming on…

Robin Williams “Learns” About Hand-Drawn Animation in ‘Back to Neverland’

Robin Williams “Learns” About Hand-Drawn Animation in ‘Back to Neverland’

You know, there is really something endearing about hand-drawn animation that I miss. I think maybe that was part of the charm of a film like Enchanted for me. But in any event, I found this gem via Peter Sciretta over at /Film. It’s a little film of Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite taking us on a tour of the different stages of animation of the day.

Viewing this has multiple layers for me. Even though Walter Cronkite had retired from the CBS Evening News by the time I came along into the world, he’s still a name that was known to me. He still appeared here and there (on into the 2000s…
