“Star Wars must have blown his mind!” Honest Trailer for ‘The Winter Soldier’

“Star Wars must have blown his mind!” Honest Trailer for ‘The Winter Soldier’

Heil hard drive? How do the Honest Trailers guys keep doing this? I mean, I have a new favorite. Again.

I love how they freely admit that finding fault with this film is really nit-picky, and so they find fault with it anyway. Get ready for MAJOR SPOILERS though. But seriously, who hasn’t seen The Winter Solider? If you haven’t, shame on you! I mean, not a great plan.

Everyone Involved With ‘Galaxy Quest’ Wants a Sequel

Everyone Involved With ‘Galaxy Quest’ Wants a Sequel
Germain Lussier — Film

1999 was an amazing year of movies. One of the best ever. Being John Malkovich, The Matrix, Fight Club, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, American Beauty, the list goes on and on. A film that also belongs on that list, but is rarely mentioned in the same space, is Galaxy Quest. The smart, hilarious send-up of geek culture with a sci-fi twist was a modest hit, grossing $91 million worldwide, but continues to be popular because it struck a cultural chord and was so ahead of its time.

The idea of a Galaxy Quest sequel has been batted around for years. In a recent oral history of the film done by MTV,…

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Jar-Jar and Gollum Impressions Are Amazing

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Jar-Jar and Gollum Impressions Are Amazing
Craig Flaster — MTV.com

But finally, Cumberbatch broke out the big guns, with absolutely spot-on, terrifying, wonderful impressions of Jar-Jar Binks and Gollum, hitting two huge Comic-Con franchises.

Making the experience more surreal, MTV News’ own Josh Horowitz put in his own Jar-Jar impression, as the two had a Jar-Jar conversation that might make you go mental (in Cumberbatch’s words) if you watch it too much.

Yes, well all hate Jar-Jar here and everything, but this is Benedict Cumberbatch doing impressions and it’s just as great as you think.

Guardians of the Galaxy Easter Eggs: Over 50 Trivia, References, Callbacks, Cameos and More

Guardians of the Galaxy Easter Eggs: Over 50 Trivia, References, Callbacks, Cameos and More
Peter Sciretta — /Film

Guardians of the Galaxy might be Marvel’s most elaborate film to date when it comes to easter eggs. I’ve watched the film twice now and have noticed a ton of inside jokes, references to characters from the comic books, 1980′s callbacks and more. I attempted to compile the most complete listing of Guardians of the Galaxy easter eggs

This is a pretty fun read. You should go check it out.

Understanding Art House — ‘Snowpiercer’

Understanding Art House — ‘Snowpiercer’

I was linked to this video yesterday. I saved it to watch when I got home from work, and its worth sharing with you. Mind you I don’t agree with the conclusions the film draws, and I don’t agree with some of the conclusions of the reviewer — although admittedly it’s hard to tell how much of it is just analysis of the film’s opinion, and how much of it is the reviewer’s opinion. Nevertheless, a lot of astute observation going on here of a type and level I can only one day dream of achieving.

Honest Trailer for ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze’

Honest Trailer for ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze’

I don’t have a lot of hope for this upcoming Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. But It’s not like the previous films were any good either as Honest Trailers is here to remind us. In fact, they were really, really bad. Honestly after watching and laughing at this trailer, I’m quite coninved that the reboot will be much, much better.

Guardians of the Galaxy — Review

4 of 5 stars
Guardians of the Galaxy

That awkward moment when a character who said only three (well okay, five, technically) words throughout the entirety of the film had way more character development than any character in Man of Steel. This is the power of the Marvel creative team at this particular juncture in history.

Guardians of the Galaxy is ostentatious, outrageous, silly, irreverent, and altogether self aware. Where the previous Marvel film this year was a very serious affair with a few funny moments, this film is the polar opposite — a very funny affair with a few serious moments.

The Galaxy?

I’m not sure this film…

Martin Scorsese’s Passionate Defense of Kodak Film

Martin Scorsese’s Passionate Defense of Kodak Film
Lindsey Bahr — Entertainment Weekly

On the heels of Kodak’s decision to continue its production of film stock after finalizing a deal with major Hollywood studios just last week, the venerable Martin Scorsese issued a heartfelt statement in support of the move, writing: “This news is a positive step towards preserving film, the art form we love.”

As the Chair of The Film Foundation, Scorsese recognizes the advantages of HD and the realities of modern movie-making while still enthusiastically embracing the importance of film, not only as a “building block” of the art form but also as something that continues to inform the…

Disney Launches Muppets Digital Series

Disney Launches Muppets Digital Series

Disney has launched a new Muppet series straight to the interwebz. It’s not as good as the movies or anything, but it’s kind of fun I guess. Drew Taylor over at The Playlist has a pretty skeptical view if you’re more interested in that sort of take. I tend to look at it more as embracing the internet as a distribution medium. I could be wrong, and it’s not like Muppets Most Wanted did really, really well or anything. In fact, it only made $78 million world wide on a budget of $50 million. That’s quite a bit less than the 2011 film and it’s not great at all. So it’s not too much of a stretch…
