Amber Ray — Entertainment Weekly

Warner Bros. Pictures is putting together the pieces for the next installment in the Lego franchise.

Ninjago, a spinoff of the hit The Lego Movie, has been given a Sept. 23, 2016 release date. Warner Bros.previously announced that The Lego Movie 2 will hit theaters May 26, 2017.

The animated 3-D action-adventure is inspired by the popular ninja line of Lego building sets and minifigures. The characters previously starred in Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, an animated series on Cartoon Network, and the first Lego film.

Well, I reckon my 7 year old son will be excited about this. And in…

‘Big Hero 6’ Trailer

‘Big Hero 6’ Trailer

I’ve never heard of this franchise before, and I hear if you blinked back when it was a thing in the ‘90s, you might have missed it.

This film is an animated collaboration between Marvel and Disney. It’s a Marvel property and Disney owns Marvel so no big surprises there. Without knowing a thing about the comic, I think this looks like it could be a lot of fun. Obviously we only get to see one tiny little sliver of one tiny little aspect of this story, but it definitely feels like a Pixar sort of take on a Marvel property, and I am completely down with that.

‘Godzilla’ Director Gareth Edwards To Helm a ‘Star Wars’ Spinnoff Film

‘Godzilla’ Director Gareth Edwards To Helm a ‘Star Wars’ Spinnoff Film
Kevin Jagernauth — The Playlist

The career of Gareth Edwards is one that would make a film school student envious. His first film, “Monsters,” was a labor of love, made on a shoestring budget, with the VFX largely done a laptop. The result? A solid indie highlighting a director with a real sense of mood and craft. That effort found him leveraged into the blockbuster “Godzilla,” and no matter what you thought of it, the movie was a huge smash, opening last weekend over $90 million at the box office. So what does Edwards do next? He’s doing to Disneyland. Kinda.

THR reports that he’ll direct one of the upcoming “Star Wars”…

‘Jupiter Ascending’ International Trailer

‘Jupiter Ascending’ International Trailer

You’ll have to excuse the titles and subtitles that are not in english as this is an international trailer, but this particular trailer is showing us some tings we haven’t yet seen and I’m loving the look of it. This looks like the film I want from the Wachowskis. I hope they don’t do to this franchise what they did to the Matrix franchise in the second and third films, but we won’t worry about that just yet. This looks fantastic.

Trailer for the Roger Ebert film ‘Life Itself’

Trailer for the Roger Ebert film ‘Life Itself’

Roger Ebert is easily the greatest film critic who has ever lived. The world of movie criticism would look a lot different if he had not been involved and he brought a special voice to that world.

This film explores Ebert’s life and you better believe I’ll in watching this soon when it comes out on July 4th.

‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Title And Logo Revealed

‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Title And Logo Revealed
Peter Sciretta — /Film

Warner Bros has officially announced that Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman movie will be titled Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice title is obviously playing upon the announced Justice League follow-up. Principal photography starts today in Detroit, MI.

I really hate they are going for a V instead of “Vs.” and also the “Dawn of Justice” subtitle makes it feel like how Marvel Studios titled Captain America: The First Avenger to get people to see the film, billing it as the prequel to the big superhero team-up. But did they really have to do that kind…

‘Star Wars: Force For Change’ — A Message from JJ Abrams in Abu Dhabi And Look At Star Wars Set!

‘Star Wars: Force For Change’ — A Message from JJ Abrams in Abu Dhabi And Look At Star Wars Set!

JJ Abrams is looking to put one of us fans on the big screen, and would like to give us a tour of the set. That’s all cool and everything, and by entering you’re supporting charity (I do not know what all this organization supports and have not vetted so do your research and donate on your own morals and understanding), but let’s talk about this video.

The big deal is that it looks like he’s using a lot of practical effects and pracitals aliens and whatnot. This is good because if there’s a big complaint with George Lucas’ prequels, it’s that he went a little bit crazy with the CGI.

And of…

Andy Serkis Mocap Video for ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

Andy Serkis Mocap Video for ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

Andy Serkis has made quite a name for himself in the motion capture industry. It started, of course, with his motion capture work for Gollum. Back in those days, motion capture had to be in a much more controlled environment. Now he’s actually acting with other actors. It’s pretty crazy stuff.

The technology involved, the craft in filmmaking, the skill with which Serkis performs are all incredible and fascinating to me.

Check out the video.

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ Trailer Featuring Colin Firth

‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ Trailer Featuring Colin Firth

So it seems Colin Firth is branching out a little in his latest film because now he’s a secret service agent who’s all about the action. That is just not the sort of thing I associate Firth with… but then, when I think of Colin Firth, I think of Pride and Prejudice. Now, I do like that version of Pride and Prejudice to be sure, but this new role for Colin Firth just seems a little strange is all.

And yet, I really liked this trailer. It looks like just the right combination of wit and humor formy taste. Time will tell, but I’d like to see this.

Rumor: Alfonso Cuarón to Direct Harry Potter Spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them’?

Rumor: Alfonso Cuarón to Direct Harry Potter Spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them’?
Russ Fischer — /Film

There’s nothing official yet, but fans of the film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban may have a big reason to anticipate the new Harry Potter spin-off film, Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them. Reports this morning say that Alfonso Cuarón, fresh off the triumph of Gravity, is readying a return to the Potter franchise. He’s reportedly “deep in talks” to direct the first spin-off film, which is scripted by J.K. Rowling and scheduled for a 2016 release.

A couple of thoughts.

  1. The Prisoner of Azkaban film is a bit overrated in my opinion.
  2. This is the first thing he does coming…
