Tom Hiddleston Confirms Loki is not in ‘Avengers 2’

Tom Hiddleston Confirms Loki is not in ‘Avengers 2’
Drew Taylor - The Playlist

First and foremost, Tom Hiddleston, who has become a breakout star of the Marvel cinematic universe (especially when he adorably appeared at Comic-Con in full Loki regalia), confirmed to Entertainment Weekly what he had been skirting around since his appearance at the Con: that Loki will not be a part of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” “He’s not in it,” Hiddleston told EW flat out. “Here’s the thing: I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to ‘The Avengers,’ narratively. Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves…

RUMOR: John M. Chu to Direct Next ‘Star Trek’ Film?

RUMOR: John M. Chu to Direct Next ‘Star Trek’ Film?
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

The dudes over at Latino Review are reporting that Jon M. Chu, the man behind “G.I. Retaliation,” is a “contender” to direct the third installment in the “Star Trek” films for a 2016 release. This is all well and good, except for the fact that he’s committed right now to some other big franchises. Most notably, it was just under a couple of months ago that Paramount tagged him to helm “G.I. Joe 3”— which we presume is a series they don’t want sitting around too long— while he’s also got “Masters Of The Universe” brewing at Sony. So we’d reckon he’s a guy they like a lot at the moment, though…

Mission: Accepted - Christopher McQuarrie to Direct ‘MI:5’

Mission: Accepted - Christopher McQuarrie to Direct ‘MI:5’
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

Even though he’s been playing it cagey and cool, this news is hardly shocking. As far back as last fall, prior to the release of “Jack Reacher,” Christopher McQuarrie was expected to write and direct “Mission: Impossible 5” for his bud Tom Cruise. Even earlier this year he was undecided on directing and attached himself to some other projects along the way, including Warner Bros. long developing remake of “Ice Station Zebra” and a U.S. adaptation of the U.K. miniseries, “Unforgiven.” But it looks like he’s accepting the mission.

The writer/director hit Twitter to day to reveal simply: “ Read The Rest

‘Riddick’ Trailer from Regal Movies

‘Riddick’ Trailer from Regal Movies

I still haven’t had a chance to see the first one, which I do plan to do before I see this one so I can have a good context for the universe and the upcoming film.

I will say, as a side note, that it’s fun to see a few Battlestar Galactica alums popping up. This past weekend I got to see Edward James Olmos in 2 Guns, Tricia Helfer got a stint in Burn Notice a couple years ago (I’m a big fan of Burn Notice), and now Katee Sackhoff is showing up in Riddick.

Anyway, enjoy the trailer.

‘Jobs’ — 6 Clips and Featurette

‘Jobs’ — 6 Clips and Featurette

You know, I’m still looking forward to this, even if it does look like they are over dramatizing certain aspects. I mean it is a film after all, what else would you expect them to do?

The real question for me is do they get what Steve and Apple were all about? Do they get what the real drivers behind the digital revolution were? Walter Isaacson sure didn’t, I hope the writers and producers behind this do better.

Oh, I’ll also say this: As great as Ashton Kutcher works and looks as a younger Steve Jobs, he doesn’t look so great as older Steve Jobs. He’s very obviously wearing fake facial…

Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin Being Considered for Batman

Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin Being Considered for Batman
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

As we heard at the end of last week, rumors suggest that Warner Bros. is looking for an older Batman, a grizzled version of the character in their 40s and for the most part (something we suggested would be a good idea too), the names put forth by THR as early contenders mostly bear that out. Ryan Gosling and Matthew Goode are the two youngest at 32 and 35, respectively, but they are both folks the studio has been keen on previously. Gosling was previously attached to WB’s long brewing “Logan’s Run” reboot (his buddy Nicolas Winding Refn is still on board), and his directorial debut “How To…

Bourne Again — More Bourne without, you know, Bourne

Bourne Again — More Bourne without, you know, Bourne
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

Get out the chems, and get ready to run as Jason Bourne Aaron Cross is getting ready to kick some more ass. While the side-quel/spin-off “The Bourne Legacy” did solid if not exactly spectacular business (it’s the lowest grosser in the franchise, but also did about the same numbers as Matt Damon‘s first time at bat in the series), it was enough forUniversal to start considering a fifth film. In fact, not long after it hit theaters the studio confirmed a sequel was in the works, and earlier this year it was said they were “actively working” on it. And today comes more firm word.

James Cameron Ups ‘Avatar’ Sequel Count to Three

James Cameron Ups ‘Avatar’ Sequel Count to Three
Mike Fleming, Jr. - Deadline Hollywood

The planned two sequels to James Cameron’s highly successful 2009 film Avatar have now become three sequels, announces Deadline Hollywood. The three sequels will be shot at the same time, with Avatar 2 set for release in December 2016.

Commented Cameron: “Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience. In writing the new films, I’ve come to realize that Avatar’s world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen.…

‘The Frozen Ground’ Clip

‘The Frozen Ground’ Clip

Following up on my posting about the upcoming film staring Vanessa Hudgens and Nicholas Cage, I have here a clip from the film. It certainly… chilling… to say the least.

As I’ve said before, despite the fact that I’m no fan of Hudgens, there could be some substance to this film. There could be a real story here to tell. It is, as far as I understand, based on a true story of an Alaskan State Trooper name Jack Halcombe on a quest to finally lock up a serial killer named Robert Hansen who stacked up his body count for 13 years. Hudgens plays a victim only 17 years old who managed to escape and…

‘Elysium’ Extended Trailer

‘Elysium’ Extended Trailer

August 9 is fast approaching so the studio is kicking things into high gear. This is the extended trailer for Elysium and man it seems to delve close to the spoilers in my opinion.

I still have my questions about this film, but I have to admit this trailer does look pretty awesome. And Matt Damon is generally pretty good so there’s certainly hope for this film. Check it out.
