Though the comic book world can be a very dark place, what with all those evil supervillains and bloody battles and heroic deaths and whatnot, a comic book movie director can only show so much of that stuff without risking the film’s commercial prospects. Mainstream superhero tales will push the constraints of the PG-13 rating as far as they’ll stretch, but it’s very rare that they’ll actually break through them.

I’ve been looking forward to this film with some trepidation, and the first featurette below sends up some new red flags for me. I feel like the whole worldview may be all off and wrong. But that’s just my own personal opinion. You may be of a different persuasion. In any event there’s definitely a pitting of the have’s vs. the have nots. The question for me is why is this happening, is there actual oppression going on, and more. All these questions will be answered when we see the film on August 9.

Technically speaking, is this a sequel to Captain America or is this a sequel to The Avengers? The title suggests one thing, but the chronology suggests another.

Joe Russo: It’s a little bit of a sequel to both. I mean obviously the character has advanced. He’s been frozen for seventy years. It has narrative elements that tie to the first movie and it has narrative elements that tie directly to The Avengers and also has narrative elements that tie directly to Avengers 2. I don’t often post red band trailers, but sometimes I feel it necessary if I’ve mentioned a film, especially more than once, that is upcoming that I have been interested in. I do it so you can be sure to know what you are in for in case you decide to go see it based on my interest.

Well, let me tell you, this trailer is a red band for a reason. There’s not a lot of language, just one F-bomb, but there’s a whole lot of gore and blood and the like. You’ll want to make sure you don’t have a weak stomach before you watch this one. And if you can’t handle the trailer, best not head to the theater…

Since I’m on a Pacific Rim roll this morning, I thought I would also post a trailer featuring one of the primary actors from Pacific Rim, Idris Elba. The film also stars Naomie Harris of Pirates of the Carribean, and Skyfall fame.

The film is slated for release in the U.K., I have no information on when/if it might be releasing in the U.S. but I would definitely be interested in watching it. It looks like it could be very good.

It’s kind of looking like we may never see a second Pacific Rim since it’s doing far worse what what was expected, at least domestically. It’s doing a little better internationally. But I still say that profits so far are definitely a bit disappointing.

But if there is a second Pacific Rim film, a sequel, we might get to see some interesting things:

Here’s a scoop from the Marvel big boss, although, beware apparent minor(ish) spoilers for Thor: The Dark World. There’s definitely a bit about Loki that I wish I had not heard, but overall I doubt if it’s a very big deal.

So apparently Thanos will be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy as the mastermind. And as I’ve already mentioned briefly, Ultron will indeed first be seen in Avengers 2. I’m glad that Marvel seems to do a good job of knowing what things to keep in the cinematic universe, and what things are okay to tell differently than the comics.
