‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Official Production Announcement
ComingSoon.net

Although it was already known to be the case (as evidenced by the incredible Comic-Con footage), Marvel Studios has officially announced the start of production on their forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Filming is now underway at the UK’s Shepperton Studios.

Directed by James Gunn (SlitherSuper) from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt (Zero Dark ThirtyMoneyball) as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into…

Bloodier and Unrated Cut of ‘The Wolverine’ On DVD/Blu-ray

Bloodier and Unrated Cut of ‘The Wolverine’ On DVD/Blu-ray
Angie Han - /Film

Though the comic book world can be a very dark place, what with all those evil supervillains and bloody battles and heroic deaths and whatnot, a comic book movie director can only show so much of that stuff without risking the film’s commercial prospects. Mainstream superhero tales will push the constraints of the PG-13 rating as far as they’ll stretch, but it’s very rare that they’ll actually break through them.

But hey, that’s what unrated director’s cuts are for. In the case of The WolverineJames Mangold states that while he’s “very happy” with the theatrical cut, he has plans to…

Elysium Featurettes Detail The World Building and Blomkamp’s Vision

Elysium Featurettes Detail The World Building and Blomkamp’s Vision

I’ve been looking forward to this film with some trepidation, and the first featurette below sends up some new red flags for me. I feel like the whole worldview may be all off and wrong. But that’s just my own personal opinion. You may be of a different persuasion. In any event there’s definitely a pitting of the have’s vs. the have nots. The question for me is why is this happening, is there actual oppression going on, and more. All these questions will be answered when we see the film on August 9.

In the meantime, check out these featurettes and clips.

‘Captain America 2’ Features “Significant Shift” in Marvel Universe

‘Captain America 2’ Features “Significant Shift” in Marvel Universe
Russ Fischer - /Film

Technically speaking, is this a sequel to Captain America or is this a sequel to The Avengers? The title suggests one thing, but the chronology suggests another.

Joe Russo: It’s a little bit of a sequel to both. I mean obviously the character has advanced. He’s been frozen for seventy years. It has narrative elements that tie to the first movie and it has narrative elements that tie directly to The Avengers and also has narrative elements that tie directly to Avengers 2. I think, and Kevin [Feige] has said this, it’s as big of a bridge of any of the Phase 2 movies from Avengers to Avengers…

‘Veronica Mars’ Movie - Featurette/Trailer

‘Veronica Mars’ Movie - Featurette/Trailer

I know litterally nothing about the show. In fact, I hadn’t really heard of it until the Kickstarter campaign that went through the roof so yay for viral marketing and kickstarters and whatnot.

I don’t know if I’ll have time to catch up on the show and subsequently see the film any time soon, but for those of you who are fans and looking forward to this, I think this sneak peek video might be right up your alley.

This video appeared at SDCC. It features a couple of minutes of Featurette type material, followed by what is essentially a teaser trailer for the upcoming film. Also, there’s…

‘Riddick’ Red Band Trailer

‘Riddick’ Red Band Trailer

I don’t often post red band trailers, but sometimes I feel it necessary if I’ve mentioned a film, especially more than once, that is upcoming that I have been interested in. I do it so you can be sure to know what you are in for in case you decide to go see it based on my interest.

Well, let me tell you, this trailer is a red band for a reason. There’s not a lot of language, just one F-bomb, but there’s a whole lot of gore and blood and the like. You’ll want to make sure you don’t have a weak stomach before you watch this one. And if you can’t handle the trailer, best not head to the theater…

‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ Featuring Idris Elba

‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ Featuring Idris Elba

Since I’m on a Pacific Rim roll this morning, I thought I would also post a trailer featuring one of the primary actors from Pacific Rim, Idris Elba. The film also stars Naomie Harris of Pirates of the Carribean, and Skyfall fame.

The film is slated for release in the U.K., I have no information on when/if it might be releasing in the U.S. but I would definitely be interested in watching it. It looks like it could be very good.

A chronicle of Nelson Mandela’s life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of…

‘Pacific Rim 2’ Would Feature Jaeger/Kaiju Hybrid

‘Pacific Rim 2’ Would Feature Jaeger/Kaiju Hybrid

It’s kind of looking like we may never see a second Pacific Rim since it’s doing far worse what what was expected, at least domestically. It’s doing a little better internationally. But I still say that profits so far are definitely a bit disappointing.

But if there is a second Pacific Rim film, a sequel, we might get to see some interesting things:

I’ll tell you a couple of things. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you’re gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special.

Just think about it for a second. We sent Gipsy to…

Kevin Feige Talks Thanos and Ultron

Kevin Feige Talks Thanos and Ultron

Here’s a scoop from the Marvel big boss, although, beware apparent minor(ish) spoilers for Thor: The Dark World. There’s definitely a bit about Loki that I wish I had not heard, but overall I doubt if it’s a very big deal.

So apparently Thanos will be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy as the mastermind. And as I’ve already mentioned briefly, Ultron will indeed first be seen in Avengers 2. I’m glad that Marvel seems to do a good job of knowing what things to keep in the cinematic universe, and what things are okay to tell differently than the comics.

Germain Lussier Describes ‘Days of Future Past’ Trailer from SDCC

Germain Lussier Describes ‘Days of Future Past’ Trailer from SDCC
Germain Lussier - /Film

Earlier this year, director Bryan Singer made headlines when he revealed the 2014 sequel to X-Men First ClassX-Men: Days of Future Past, would not only bring back the First Class cast, but most of the cast from the original trilogy too. That created all kinds of questions, even though many fans are familiar with the time travel storyline of the title.

So how do you get fans excited for a film that’s over a year away and still filming? You bring the whole cast to San Diego Comic-Con‘s Hall H and present a brand new trailer that lays out some of the story. That story shows Professor X…
