For The Fixer I alternated between geeky wonderment, and snorting with laughter. I mean seriously, I couldn’t make up my mind. I mean, Mario and Luigi are fantasy characters in a fantasy world that is mostly just food fun. And these two short films (soon to be four) take themselves soooo seriously, and yet they are completely ludicrous.

These short films are written and directed by Evan Daugherty Snow White and the Huntsman, Divergent, and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (we’ll try not to hold that against him).

As a Bible believing Christian, I am particularly interested in what they are doing here. It certainly looks like they are taking a lot of liberties with what actually happened. But then, there’s not a whole lot of extra info in the text about what happened. We’re told that men were evil, God told Noah to build an ark, and the flood was sent. So there’s going to be a lot of reading between the lines here for a feature length film. And I…

We’ve already talked about how you should probably run for your lives and not watch this because it’s a Young Adult film adaptation and I like it. My track record isn’t spotless here (*cough*CityofBones*cought*). That said, I do think this has some potential to be interesting.

This film is based on the book by Veronica Roth and I admitedly know nothing about it. It has a long list of semi-known and unknown stars such as Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ray Stevenson, and Ashley Judd.

The first trailer I saw for this film had a particularly sort of almost indy quality about it. I’m not sensing that in this trailer.

I’m still undecided about whether I think this film will be any good or whether it’s just going to have a lot of blood guts and gore and not a really good story behind it. They certainly want us to think they’ve got a good story, and maybe there’s one there. But it’s definitely going to be violent. Who is Disney’s most evil villain? I’m sure I don’t know (Ursala comes to mind though), but Maleficent is probably way up there. And certainly, even just looking at her silhouette brings a chill to one’s spine.

That being said, I’m not sure if I needed a live action version of Maleficent on the big screen. But we’re going to get one anyway. And it looks like Angelina Jolie is up to the task. Granted we didn’t get much of a look at her, but she certainly seems to fit the role.

YES! I’ve been waiting for this for what seems like my whole life — or at least since I got out of the theater from seeing this horrible travesty of a film. This film was such a horrible train wreck that I don’t even need to put my normal caveats in place about how while I enjoyed the honest trailer I still lliked the film. No, I think Man of Steel pretty much deserves every one of these jabs and more.

I don’t know about you guys, but I really love this stuff. This breaks down how a CG helmet was placed in the scene floating around in the cabin with Sandra Bullock as she was attempting to figure out how to maneuver the escape pod thing she was in. I’ve done 2D and pseudo 3D work in After Effects, but this is a different world altogether. What’s really remarkable is that though I remember this shot, I had no idea that the helmet in this particular shot was 3D. Samuel L. Jackson wants to know what you Americans’ problem is. Apparently sometime in the future here, you all are going to be rejecting robots as law enforcement. This is of course going to lead the creation of an abomination of a hybrid between man and machine (obviously, where else could this go?).

I have to admit I was never in to Robocop and don’t know a lot about it. I’ve already seen some negative comments regarding this reboot, but as far as I’m concerned, nothing here is sacred sine I wasn’t into previous incarnations of Robocop. And I have to see this looks at leaset a little bit…
