ABC Picks Up ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ - With Promo
Nellie Andreeva - Deadline

When all was said and done tonight, ABC picked up a total of 12 new series — seven dramas and five comedies. All comedies are single-camera as ABC passed on both of its multi-camera pilots. Here is how it all came down today as the network opened the pickup process with one Disney-friendly shoo-in pilot, Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D., and closed it with another, the Once Upon A Time spinoff.

Never really any doubt with the momentum behind the Marvel universe right now that this show would get picked up to series. Still, it’s good news so I thought I would share it. I will be watching this NO…

‘Gravity’ Teaser Trailer

‘Gravity’ Teaser Trailer

I don’t have a lot of information about this film yet, but the official teaser trailer has been released. All I know for sure right now is that the film is set in space, it’s directed by Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star as astronauts trying to get back to earth after their shuttle is destroyed by debris, and that it looks like it could be good.

Here is the only official synopsis I can find at the moment:

Astronauts attempt to return to earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in…

“Somewhat Irascible and Cantankerous” - ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

“Somewhat Irascible and Cantankerous” - ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

I think “irascible and cantankerous” but “with a heart of gold” easily describes the beloved character of Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy. Of all the things I like or don’t like about J.J.‘s take on ‘Star Trek’, Bones is definitely in like category. Karl Urban seems to almost channel Deforest Kelly in the ways that matter.

This is a brief character profile video on the good doctor, and it even has just a tiny bit of stuff we haven’t yet seen from the film (that I’m aware of).

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ TV Spots with New Release Date

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ TV Spots with New Release Date

Each of these new TV spots have a little tiny bit of something or other we have never seen before, as well as advertise the fact that the film opens one day earlier here in the U.S. than previously announced.

You will, as always, probably want to beware of spoilers, though my position is, if the studio and official channels are releasing stuff, you kind of have to watch it — or at least I have to watch it. I am compelled to watch. I cannot resist!

So here are 4 new TV spots.

Clever Hasbro ‘Star Trek’ Commercial

Clever Hasbro ‘Star Trek’ Commercial

Man, you’ve got to admit this is a pretty clever commercial. Where I a kid again, I’d be begging mom and dad to get these for me. I mean really, how cool is this? And I love how the normal warnings tacked on to the end of toy commercials like these are cleverly woven into the “story” being told.

Of course, when I was a kid, I built all my Star Trek toys out of LEGO blocks from scratch. There was a certain amount of creativity there that isn’t here when you have everything pre-mad. Still, pretty fun commercial.

Cool Video - Transporting a Baby (Star Trek)

Cool Video - Transporting a Baby (Star Trek)

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the stuff people do. I am not at all a fan of the new Star Trek transporter effect that J.J. and co. have come up with (nerdy I know to care about such details), but this video is pretty fun. Someone was having some fun with After Effects (probably). Now I’m wondering why I have never done anything like this. Hmm.

Anyway, “Scotty, beam me up!”

‘Ender’s Game’ Teaser Trailer

‘Ender’s Game’ Teaser Trailer

So, this looks interesting…

After an alien race called the Formics attacks Earth, the International Fleet prepare for the next invasion by training the best young children to find the future leader to lead the International Military. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy but strategically brilliant boy, is pulled out of his school to join International Fleet and attend the legendary Battle School. After easily mastering the increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect among his peers, Ender is soon ordained by Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) as the…

‘Star Trek’ Honest Trailer

‘Star Trek’ Honest Trailer

Well, goodness. While we’re on the subject of Star Trek I might as well post what is quite possibly THE BEST HONEST TRAILER E-V-E-R!

No seriously, for those like me who have a love hate relationship with J.J.‘s 2009 Star Trek film, you’re going to love this. And this honest trailer arrives just in time, seeing how Star Trek into Darkness COMES OUT NEXT WEEK OMG!!!11!!!!!!!1!

Spock Vs. Spock

Spock Vs. Spock

What happens when the old guy and the new guy go toe to toe? This video will show you just that.

This is just about the silliest car ad I’ve seen in a long time, but as a good geek/nerd/Trekie, whatever you want to call me, I enjoyed it immensely.

Plus, you know, Quinto is going to have to get up a lot earlier in the morning than that to beat Spock prime. Despite the silliness, I think this may actually be some of the best advertising I’ve seen in a while.

J.J. Abrams and Simon Pegg Talk about ‘Star Wars’

J.J. Abrams and Simon Pegg Talk about ‘Star Wars’

It has not really been a secret that Abrams is a big Star Wars fan and was never really a fan of Trek. It’s hard to argue with the box office success of his first Trek film, and what looks like the box office success we’re going to see with his second Trek film, but I am still not sure he was ever the right man for the job. Still, I am glad to have Star Trek in almost any form.

And that’s not really the point here. Here, Simon Pegg and J.J. Abrams are talking (mostly) about Star Wars. If you want to nerd out a bit, check this out.
