So what exactly is Bayhem? It’s a question worth asking. The reasons for Bay’s success may be beyond you if you do not take the time to analyze what Bay is doing in his filmmaking. There is no doubt that when it comes to technique, Bay is (usually) in a master class with very, very few others. There are certainly directors that try to replicate “Bayhem”, but they almost always fail miserably (John M. Chu in G.I. Joe: Retaliation comes to mind). There won’t be any movie news today because it’s Independence Day and I have things to do! Here in the United States, it’s a day for hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, beer, and fireworks. Normally I would happily partake in all of those — and the opportunity may indeed present itself — but I’ll actually be attending a wedding today first. Seven years after Amy Adams brought fairy tales into modern New York City, Enchanted is—finally!—continuing after ever, ever after, according to Deadline.

J. David Stem and David N. Weiss (Shrek 2, The Smurfs) will write a sequel to Enchanted, with Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, The Guilt Trip) set to direct the follow-up to Disney’s worldwide hit, according to Deadline‘s report. I sure loved the reruns of this show growing up but I can’t think of anything more apalling now. Funny how that works. And yet, as apalling as it is, I do get sort of nostalgic whenever I see clips from this show. It’s a cheesy and a cheesy piece of cheese, but it’s just a part of my childhood I guess.

Tim Burton’s 2001 Planet of the Apes has to be one of the worst films in existence. So obviously, the Honest Trailer for this one nails it. And I’m certainly looking forward to the upcoming film and expect it to be even better than the rebooted reboot, which was decent enough.

This week, TJ, Clark, and Fizz tackle the pure awfulness that is ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’. While we try to tackle things that in general are wonderful and good and likable, it is fun once in a while to do a complete smack-down and that’s what you’re going to get this week. Other topics of interest include ‘Star Wars’ and Harrison Fords injury, ‘Pacific Rim 2’ set for 2017 and an animated ‘Pacific Rim’ series, and Frank Darabont set to direct ‘Snow White and the Huntsman 2’.

This movie exists for one reason: you people keep seeing these awful things. And I think I know why too. Though no one will admit to liking Michael Bay or the Transformers films, people turn up in droves. To a very small extent, it’s difficult form me to completely fault the young teenage guys from seeing these films. It is the ultimate major “make stuff go boom” franchise. Guys love that stuff. Ooo, that stuff is exploding all over, look at that helicopter crash INTO THAT GIANT ALIEN SPACESHIP!

There’s also the other obvious angle for the teen guys: hot girls in cutoff shorts and midriff…

Transformers: Age of Extinction is a relentless assault on the senses that somehow still managed to bore me to tears. It’s a 2 hour and 40 minute film that features giant robots riding enormous robot dinosaurs killing bad giant robots, yet is devoid of any meaningful thrills or excitement. Filled with explosions, flying glass, a laughably incoherent plot, and paper-thin characters who behave completely nonsensically, this movie dares you to try and look away from its mess, then punches you in the throat with its runtime as your body urges you to head for the exit.

But maybe that’s okay.…

Feeling very confident, 20th Century Fox has started showing it early to critics and the first wave of reviews have come in, and they are almost unanimously positive. If Rupert Wyatt’s “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” showed that the franchise could updated, taken seriously and deliver the blockbuster bang audiences now expect, Reeves seems to have taken it to the next level.
