Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” was number one for the fourth weekend (though not consecutively) and could only take it $10.7 million. That’s a pretty low figure for the #1 slot, but indicative of the slow weekend, not the movie. And besides, everything’s coming up roses for Marvel’s movie. The picture has now made $294.5 million domestically, which means that coveted $300 million mark will be surpassed either next weekend or the one afterwards. The movie has grossed $586 million worldwide in six weeks of release and has hit a lot of milestones this weekend.

When you think of Adam West, what’s the first thing you think of? That cheesy, cheesy Batman series from the 60s of course. For many, many of the middle aged to older folks in our culture, Adam West is Batman (for better or worse). We can argue about who has played the role best over the years, but there is no doubt that the name of Adam West is recognizable, and in many ways, iconic.

That’s why I’m interested in seeing this film.

I can’t decide whether I’m looking forward to this film or not. But I am keeping an eye on it in any event. It certainly looks grand and epic. Obviously the director of Gladiator directing this picture is interesting in theory. But I also know I will be extremely hard to please with a Biblical film. As with other Biblicaly based films, I will attempt to judge it on two levels, 1). is it a good film — does it tell a good story and is it fun and engaging? and 2). how does it measure up to the Biblical tale?

It’s that time again: time for me to write up a post about the latest addition to Star Trek remastered. But this time, it’s the final season of my favorite overall Star Trek series. The remastering of The Next Generation will now be complete. And as usual, there will also be a stand-alone release. It became quite a common thing to have two parters throughout TNG’s run, and often, they make great feature length “films”. I know a lot of you didn’t like the show, but I certainly did. And I’m quite looking forward to season 2. And if you didn’t like the show, you may be interested in tuning in to season 2 because it does look like they’re changing the tone a bit. Season 2 looks to me like it will be darker. It makes sense given where The Winter Soldier and the episodes of Agents of SHIELD that were after The Winter Soldier left the universe. Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy is technically in this same universe and it was a lot of goofy fun. But it’s pretty disconnected from what else is going on in the universe…

Let me help you get even more excited for November 7th. That’s the date that Disney will release Big Hero 6 into theaters. I’m quite optimistic about this upcoming film. Marvel is involved as well — I mean, Marvel is owned by Disney, but they have maintained their own identity and operations. And they are working with Disney on this animated comic book film. I believe we are going to see the fingerprints on it. Additionally, remember that Disney has been putting out better animated films than Pixar. Critics don’t like it, it didn’t get good marketing, and it hasn’t made a boatload of money. So now despite all that the question before us, is ‘The Giver’ a good film? Is it worth your time and consideration? Joe and TJ say yes. The film is worth seeing and makes for great discussion. Frankly, Joe and TJ can’t understand why the critics are rating it so poorly. The film is not without its flaws, but what film doesn’t have a few flaws? Also up for discussion, ‘Machete Kills’ Writer will pen the upcoming Michael Bay produced film ‘Cosmic Motors’ — that sounds like a whole lot of stupid, an ‘Underworld’ reboot is on the way to us, ‘Steve Carell’ will headline an ACME focused live action ‘Looney Tunes’ film, TJ has friends who have not seen ‘Star Wars’, Chloe Moretz blames her film failures on piracy (because: SCAPEGOAT!), and ‘Full House’ is returning to TV.
