Let’s face it: when it comes to the cinematic future of Spider-Man, nobody knows what’s going on. And that’s because even Sony isn’t sure what the next move could be following the fan loathed and underperforming “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Just this past week the Sony leaks revealed that the studio briefly discussed trying to work about a deal with Marvel to include the character in “Captain America: The Civil War.” It didn’t pan out, but it appears the talks between the two aren’t over.

Critics just hated the first installment in the Divergent series of films. They thought it too formulaic and predictable. I found the film to be okay — yes, occasionally formulaic, but… ahem… diverting.

That said, I think this second film could go either way. In fact I would say this film will either be a good bit better and considerably worse and I’m not sure which yet. Ever since news broke last week that Roberto Orci would no longer be directing the nextStar Trek film, there has been a great deal of confusion, speculation, and misinformation regarding Orci’s continuing role as well as the future of the feature film franchise. Just yesterday, Jonathan Frakes announced that he loves the twitter campaign and would be thrilled to direct the next Star Trek movie. While he has not responded on Twitter, he did give an interview to KOMO News Radio, wherein he said:

I think it’s safe to say that this doesn’t look at all like anything Pixar has ever done before — and that’s probably a good thing. While I still have my doubts about this project, I did find this trailer hillarious even if I would find the actual situation, if it were taking place in real life, repulsive. We all wonder sometimes what’s going on in someone else’s brain and this film is going to set out to answer that question in what looks to be a pretty clever and funny way.

I don’t often post red band trailers on MovieByte, but since I’ve been pretty public here about looking forward to this film and recommending it in a way, I wanted you all to know what you’re getting in to.

I still think the film looks like great fun, and it’s certainly not going to take itself too seriously.

It will be out in theaters on February 13.

Oh man! I nearly split a gut on this one. This just proves that even the best of movies can be made fun of. It is funny the connections that you can make to other Marvel characters, but it’s a sign of how well done it is that I never made the connection before or maybe I just never cared to make the connection.
