Superman Kills Lois Lane

Superman Kills Lois Lane
John Gholson

He mentioned a few specific plot points, most of them idiotic, and the most offensive of these bits takes place in issue #3 - a comic that finds Superman punching his pregnant wife so hard that it kills her and sends her flying into space. Sure, he’s hallucinating that Lois Lane is Doomsday, but the event still happens. Sims has a pretty thorough critical breakdown of the series, so I’m not going to do that here, but I am going to pound the stump, pull up a soapbox, and cry in the streets to anyone who will listen that DC Comics allowing Superman to punch Lois Lane and his unborn child to…

‘Turbo’ Trailer #2

‘Turbo’ Trailer #2

Ummm, wow. Okay, this is not quite the movie I thought it was going to be. Something tells me this is going to be a little ridiculous actually. I’m still trying to put my finger on it, what makes a Pixar film with a ridiculous concept more appealing than this crazy thing? I don’t know but the whole “nuclear snail” thing or whatever it is that is going on here is not quite appealing to my inner movie geek… at all. I hope I’m wrong.

It doesn’t help that pretty much the only decent thing Dreamworks animation has ever turned out is Shrek and Shrek 2 (followed distantly by Shrek Forever…

MovieByte Podcast #36 Live Broadcast

Don’t forget you’ll want to tune in tonight to get the scoop on Halle Berry’s latest film The Call. Joe and I have seen said film and we’re going to give you the run down — as always, we do have opinions we want to share with you about this film, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

There is also something else I will want to discuss at least briefly. It’s something that bugs the tar out of me sometimes. Here’s a spoiler from our show outline:

You’ll have to tune in tonight to find out more. I like the /Filmcast, I really do, but once in a while I get irritated about stuff they say…

Harrison Ford Sort of Confirms He’ll Be In Star Wars VII

Harrison Ford Sort of Confirms He’ll Be In Star Wars VII
Adam Chitwood - Collider

Another day, another semi-confirmation of a Star Wars return for an actor from the original trilogy.  Despite Joss Whedon’s thoughts on the matter, it seems inevitable now that Mark HamillCarrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford will be reprising their roles from the original Star Wars trilogy in the J.J. Abrams-helmed Episode VII.  Hamill previously said the trio was in talks, Fisher has outright confirmed that she’ll be back, and George Lucas said it’s pretty much a done deal.  Now you can add the final piece of the puzzle to the pile, as Harrison Ford has essentially confirmed that they’ll…

Whedon’s Reaction to ‘Iron Man 3’ Ending

Whedon’s Reaction to ‘Iron Man 3’ Ending
Angie Han - /Film

2 Kids and a Coupon (via Cinema Blend) attended a recent press event with Feige, where he revealed Whedon’s reaction.

….We have what I think is the biggest, you know, most action packed finale we’ve had. I showed the film to Joss Whedon who is our writer-director of Avengers, is currently working on Avengers 2, and he saw the finale of this and he goes, now what am I supposed to do now?  What am I going to do in Avengers 2?

If Whedon is impressed, I have no doubt that it will be good! Is it May 3rd yet?

Apple TV Software Update

Apple TV Software Update
Juli Clover - MacRumors

Alongside today’s update to iOS 6.1.3, Apple also updated the Apple TV to version 5.2.1. The 5.2.1 software contains a number of bug fixes and has also brought a redesigned Hulu app to the device.

The security fixes, which can all be credited to the evad3rs, prevent users from executing unsigned code, determining the address of structures in the kernel, and executing arbitrary code in the kernel.

As for Hulu, the app has been entirely redesigned with improved discovery tools and some simple UI enhancements.

I downloaded the update and used the new Hulu app last night to…

More ‘Monsters University’ Viral Marketing

I’m not really into sports, but apparently it’s a thing, especially college sports. And from the looks of it, the Monsters U team was a little disappointed with their placement. A “local monster college student” seems to have captured the reaction and it made it to “Pixar News”.

Monsters University will feature the voice talents of John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren, David Spade, Alfred Molina and Ricky Gervais. The film opens on June 21st.

‘Star Trek TNG’ Streaming and Download in HD

‘Star Trek TNG’ Streaming and Download in HD

All I can say is, it’s about time!

You can now get Star Trek: The Next Generation digitally in a couple of different forms, and in HD!

The entire series is now streaming on Hulu. The first two seasons in remastered HD. In my comparisons, it’s far better quality than those old DVD transfers, but it’s not as good as the Blu-ray. Still, if you’re on a tight budget and already have a Hulu subscription (hello there friend!), then Hulu is a great way to go.

If you would like to own and control the digital files (as I would if I had the cash),…

‘Hansel and Gretel’ Sequel

‘Hansel and Gretel’ Sequel
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

This is why we can’t have nice things. So, “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters”—a total piece of crap, dumped into January, receiving scathing reviews and then disappearing forever, right? Hardly. This past weekend, the movie quietly passed $200 million worldwide. Wha? That’s right, international audiences have been gobbling this movie up, with it earning nearly three times what it did in North America, which means one thing: sequel!

Again, another movie that I don’t quite understand all the angst about. There have been far better films, but there have also been far worse films. And as far…

‘Iron Man 3’ TV Spot

‘Iron Man 3’ TV Spot

Alright, Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 2! I’m ready. I’ve been gearing up by watching the Marvel film (I’ve watched Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 [ugh] is next on my list), and May can’t get here soon enough. Here’s a little bit more to whet the appetite for you.

Iron Man 3 will obviously star Robert Downey Jr. and will also star Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. Also returning are Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Jon Favreau as Hogan, and Don Cheadle as Rhodey.
