Were you ever in any kind of a play and/or some sort of big production? Well if so, you might be able to relate to Michael Bay. And as much as I don’t like his films (except for the one fluke of his career where he made a really good film, The Island), I really kind of felt bad for him watching this. He went on stage expecting the teleprompter to guide him through, and apparently the teleprompter got messed up and he didn’t know what to do or say. He tried to wing it, and then just walked off the stage. It’s sort of entertaining, but mostly I was just cringing.

Such shocking news we have here. Who would have guessed that Marvel, now owned by Disney, would be granted the exclusive publishing rights to Star Wars Comics, Star Wars being a Lucasfilm property, Lucasfilm now owned by Disney. Just shocking I tell you.

Way to make me feel old. I’m only turning 32 this year. Yeesh! I recognize many of these films, not all. But among the ones that make me feel old are:

According to THR, the footage that Walker shot before his death will be utilized, and the script by Chris Morgantweaked, so that the character of Brian O’Conner can exit the film, but he won’t be killed off. In short, they are trying to find a respectful way to handle the loss of Walker, without removing him entirely from the sequel and still working within the framework and story of the film. Makes sense, though we understand why the movie was pushed, as it’s not something you want to rush to make work.

It won’t be too long now and we’ll be able to see if this film is any good for ourselves. But in the meantime, Paramount is making with the promotional items. This time we get a nice fat clip featuring a shaky camera, and a lot of hard to follow action. Frankly I hope the film in its totality is a whole lot better than this.

The bottom line in this clip is it appears Jack Ryan (Chris Pine) has been deceived about the type of job he was in for when someone tries to kill him. His boss (Kevin Costner) isn’t exactly rolling out the sympathy wagon either.

It’s time to get this show back on the road after all this Christmas vacationing, and partying it up and stuff. You guys have stuff to see, and I have stuff for you to see this weekend. There are no new films this weekend that look like they are worth mentioning. But there were some new films that came out the weekend that I did not do a “what to see”. Those will just be mixed in here, I’m going to go in order of the top grossing at the box office. Let’s dive in.

Remeber that big kickstarter campaign to fund a Veronica Mars film so that fans could get what they always wanted and stuff? Well, it’s starting to pay off now in the form of the film’s first trailer.

I never watched the show. I’m trying to find time to remedy that now, but I just never did. I think I heard about it a time or two though. And apparently it has more than enough fans that one wonders why it was canceled. At any rate, it appears to have a lot of elements that I love in a show or movie — not the least of which is a good amount of snark.

Veronica Mars opens in AMC theaters and…

This is one of those films that’s going to be a trickle down release. It was originally slated to hit the UK in 2013, but is now getting a premiere at Sundance later this month, followed by a US release by Lionsgate. There has not been a domestic trailer yet, but we’ve got a spanish version here.

For all its drudgery, the word that best describes Wolf‘s approach to its debauchery is “gleeful.” Perhaps the filmmakers really did approach the story with a “holy crap, look what this guy did!” mentality and let the chips fall where they may, but in the era in which the film has been released, with many of its criminals paying no real price for their crimes, and with the shadow of a much harsher economic reality dividing the United States into two vastly unequal halves, The Wolf of Wall Street seems crass, unconsidered, and brutish.
