Sacha Baron Cohen Exits Freddie Mercury Biopic

Sacha Baron Cohen Exits Freddie Mercury Biopic
Nikki Finke - Deadline

For those of you who didn’t know, a biopic about the life of Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury has been in the works, with Sacha Baron Cohen starring as the late rock singer, who died of AIDS in 1991. However, according to Nikki Finke over at Deadline, there have been creative differences between the actor and the surviving members of the band, Brian May and Roger Taylor, who have script and director approval for the film.

The reason is that the band wanted to make more of a PG movie about Queen while Cohen was counting on a gritty R-rated tell-all centered around the gifted gay singer.…

Rumor: Gosling and Efron Considered for ‘Star Wars VII’

Rumor: Gosling and Efron Considered for ‘Star Wars VII’
Kellvin Chavez - Latino Review

Part of what made the original Star Wars trilogy so great was its use of actors who were at the time unknowns, especially Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Even the prequel trilogy, as widely derided as it is (I’ll save my personal opinion for another time…), used many then-unknown actors, such as Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and even, to an extent, Ewan McGregor. However, there’s a rumor circulating that we might be seeing a few familiar faces in the first film of the new trilogy, and I don’t mean “familiar” as in “from previous Star Wars films.”

Latino…

‘Peanuts’ Movie in 3D, CGI - Good Grief, Charlie Brown!

‘Peanuts’ Movie in 3D, CGI - Good Grief, Charlie Brown!
Geoff Boucher - Entertainment Weekly

Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and Peppermint Patty will return to the silver screen in November 2015, timing that coincides with the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas, perhaps the most beloved cartoon in television history. But how will the new feature film — with 3-D, CG animation — compare to the hand-drawn charms of that 1965 small-screen classic? Or to the Charles Schulz comic strip that possessed an especially elusive brand of whimsy?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

No.

NO!

This is the worst idea ever. The comics were simple and charming, as were the cartoon adaptations. This is…

‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Poster

‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Poster

I normally can’t be bothered to post film posters. I find them to be the most boring things to post. Why would I bother you guys with something so droll?

However…

I really like this one — A LOT!. It’s wonderful in it’s simplicity and conveys so much with such clean design. This, though simple, is actually really good design work in my opinion. Well done, Disney!

Sandara Bullock Can’t Imagine Doing ‘The Heat’ Sequel

Sandara Bullock Can’t Imagine Doing ‘The Heat’ Sequel
Adam Markovitz - Entertainment Weekly

That’s what Sandra Bullock says it would take for her to suit up for another installment of her hit buddy cop comedy, costarring Melissa McCarthy, which has grossed $130 million and sparked a groundswell of sequel rumors. “I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it,” Bullock tells EW. “I don’t want to ruin what Melissa and I had. If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I’m not there.”

Well that’s good because I can’t really imaine…

No Grasshopper

No Grasshopper

TJ and Chad take a look at the latest trailers, TJ goes on a rant about ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and too-soon reboots in general, which was satisfying for him to get off his chest. And both are looking forward to ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ quite a lot. And there’s several other trailers worth checking out this week. Also of interest, Joss Whedon has revealed the name of his upcoming ‘Avengers’ sequel, ‘The Avengers: The Age of Ultron’. Plus lots of other Marvel news and goodies and other cool stuff coming out of SDCC. And some not so welcome news to TJ, more welcome to Chad, Zack Snyder will direct a Superman/Batman crossover film. And then they review 2 new films this week, ‘R.I.P.D.’ and ‘RED 2’. TJ found ‘R.I.P.D.’ fun and watchable, though nothing special. Chad didn’t really like it at all. Both liked ‘RED 2’ however, though TJ liked it a little more.

‘47 Ronin’ Trailer

‘47 Ronin’ Trailer

So, this looks interesting, even if Keanu Reeves still can’t act. But I daresay the film looks fairly interesting to me, though I can’t exactly say why.

One thing is for sure, this film has had a troubled journey. It comes from first time filmmaker Carl Rinsch, and was originally scheduled to hit the box office last November. That didn’t happen and it went through a few rough bumps and dates before finally landing on Christmas Day of this year.

After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their…

New Intense ‘Gravity’ Trailer is Intense

New Intense ‘Gravity’ Trailer is Intense

Did I mention this thing is intense? Holy cow! And it’s all one entire take. I had heard that much of the film is done through single long takes, and man that’s pretty crazy.

I still don’t know what to make of this film and whether it will be any good. The only other work that I’ve seen from director Alfonso Cuarón is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. While certainly not the worst film in the Harry Potter film adaptations, I felt like it could have been better, directorialy.

So, what does that mean for this film? Probably nothing at all. I’ll wait to see if this film is any good.

Cleft-Lip Charities Upset with ‘Lone Ranger’

Cleft-Lip Charities Upset with ‘Lone Ranger’
Hilary Lewis - The Hollywood Reporter

Organizations condemn the movie for using the facial feature to make a character appear more evil.

Disney’s The Lone Ranger is facing a fresh round of controversy over one of its characters, but this time, Johnny Depp‘s portrayal of a Native American isn’t the subject of the outrage.

Instead, charities are upset that WilliamFichtner‘s Butch Cavendish features a cleft lip, a prosthetic that may have been added in part to make him appear more sinister.

OH. MY. WORD!

At the risk of sounding cruel and heartless, let me just say get over yourselves! No really, seriously, this is not about…
