‘The Starving Games’ — ‘Hunger Games’ Spoof

‘The Starving Games’ — ‘Hunger Games’ Spoof
Jen Yamato - Deadline

Spoofmeisters Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie) will be back with more pop culture parodying this fall, thanks to Ketchup Entertainment. The financing firm and newbie distributors have acquired Hunger Games satireThe Starving Games for a November 8 theatrical release. Timing puts the Friedberg/Seltzer comedy in theaters just ahead of Lionsgate‘s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire which debuts November 22.

Hmm, that doesn’t sound at all interesting to me and maybe just a bit irritating. The reason being of course is that I love this franchise and making…

John Williams Officially Returning to Score New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

John Williams Officially Returning to Score New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

Legendary film composer (and personal favorite) John Williams has officially confirmed his involvement in the new Star Wars trilogy, with the first entry being directed by JJ Abrams and premiering in 2015!

In a video posted on the official Star Wars YouTube channel, 81-year-old Williams talks about how he has always loved composing the scores for these films and how he still feels like he’s in the “galaxy far, far away.” I must admit that, while I knew that he would compose the score for Episode VII, I was willing to bet money that Abrams’ regular collaborator, Michael Giacchino, would take…

‘The Wolverine’ Digs His Claws In — Box Office Report, July 29, 2013

‘The Wolverine’ Digs His Claws In — Box Office Report, July 29, 2013

The Wolverine sharpened his claws and dug right in this past weekend, and clawed his way right to the top. But not far behind him is the world’s greatest super-villain turned nice guy, Gru. Sandwiched in there is one I just don’t get, but I’m not a fan of horror so maybe I’m the wrong person to ask about The Conjuring.

#1 — The Wolverine

Budget: $120 Million
Totals: $55 Million Weekend Gross / $86 Million Foreign / $141.1 Million Worldwide
Week Number: 1

Perhaps a slightly week domestic opening compared to the budget, and compared to the first Wolverine film. But with the foreign total,…

Jon M. Chu talks ‘G.I. Joe 3’

Jon M. Chu talks ‘G.I. Joe 3’
Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub - Collider

With G.I. Joe: Retaliation now available on VOD and hitting Blu-ray/DVD next week, I was able to sit down with director Jon M. Chu last weekend for an exclusive video interview.  However, with Chu returning to direct G.I. Joe 3, I used a lot of my time talking about the next installment and what fans can expect.  Some of the highlights he told me were:

  • Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson are returning.
  • The release date is still being figured out.
  • Regarding the script, they’re currently “narrowing down the writer.”
  • On Retaliation, they learned that fans were okay with stretching things a…

Follow-Up: Gosling Not Appearing in ‘Star Wars VII’

Follow-Up: Gosling Not Appearing in ‘Star Wars VII’
Christopher Rosen - Huffington Post

A few days ago, I told you about a rumor that actors Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron had for roles in JJ Abrams’ upcoming Star Wars film. Since then, however, Gosling’s representatives have contacted the Huffington Post to say “this is not true.”

For what it’s worth, Gosling has expressed a desire to back away from acting in the short term. “I’ve been doing it too much,” he told The Associated Press in March. “I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about…

Holy Superbatman!

Holy Superbatman!

TJ wraps up the week for you with a look at which films did well last weekend, including some of his disappointments regarding the box office shakedowns. And of course there was a lot of news coming out of the weekend from the San Diego Comic Con, including a new ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Theatrical Trailer, Joss Whedon revealed the title of the upcoming ‘Avengers’ film to be ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, and Zack Snyder announced a ‘Superman’ ‘Batman’ crossover film. The sad news of course in TJ’s eyes is that it will yet again reboot the ‘Batman’ universe. Cobie Smulders will be appearing on the upcoming TV show ‘SHIELD’ set in the Marvel Cinematic universe. ‘Riddick’ gets a “red band” trailer. ‘Captain America 2’ will feature a significant shift in the Marvel Universe, plus, TJ is not too happy with the proposed cinematic style mentioned by the directors. And man, 2015 is looking like a crazy year for films! We also have an upcoming ‘Peanuts’ film based on the beloved comic strip by Charles Schulz, it’s going to be 3D and CGI. That doesn’t sound like a winner to TJ. And of course, you’ll want to tune in to hear about what you might like to see in theaters this weekend!

RED 2 — Review

3.5 of 5 stars
RED 2

RED, a 2010 film starring Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, and Helen Mirren, was great because it brought something new to the table: older actors, most not known for starring in action films, coming together to create an action film that works as both a good action film and as a good comedy too. However, I was slightly concerned for the sequel; could the filmmakers capture what was special about the first film without rehashing it in the second? Luckily, I think that they (mostly) pulled it off.

The Mission

RED 2 picks up where the first film left off, with…

Sharpen your Claws! - What to see This Weekend!

Sharpen your Claws! - What to see This Weekend!

Sharpen up your claws and prepare to be saved by mutants and stuff, because The Wolverine is coming to the big screen this weekend, and as usual, he’s probalby angry, or depressed and the like.

New This Weekend

The Wolverine — PG-13

The first Wolverine film was slightly lackluster, although I enjoyed it more than most. But I’m hoping for much greater things from this film. And it’s getting some pretty good reviews. I’ll be seeing this film this weekend and I’m looking forward to it!

Lured to a Japan he hasn’t seen since World War II, century-old mutant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) finds…

Another intense clip for ‘Gravity’

Another intense clip for ‘Gravity’

I hope I’m not disapointed by this film. I suspect that many might find it a little boring, even though what we are seeing is intense, I think the general movie-going audience wants a different type of intensity — you know, like super-heroes crashing around.

But I sort of suspect that I personally might like this film. But it really does depend on where it’s going, what the end of the film is like, and of course, how we get there.

Gravity premieres on October 4th.

‘In a World’ Clip

‘In a World’ Clip

In this clip from Lake Bell’s upcoming film, In a World, apparently Russian Storm Troopers will not find the droids they are looking for…

There’s something interesting looking to me about this film. And goodness knows Lake Bell is working her tail off for it. For this film she is writing, directing, producing, AND acting in the lead roll. That’s a WHOLE lot of work, let me assure you.

The story of this film is about the daughter of a veteran voice-over star who is looking to break into the business and battling to get voicing jobs for trailers that might be the next big film.

The film…
