‘JOBS’ Trailer

‘JOBS’ Trailer

Honestly, I don’t know how to style the text anymore. First it used to be jOBS, then it was JOBS, now I’m seeing it as Jobs. Well whatever, despite how messy the marketing is (and the capitols in the text styling), I’m looking forward to seeing this film, and this trailer has only made me want to see it that much more. Regardless of how you feel about Apple and/or Steve Jobs, there is no doubt that he changed the face of computers, smartphones, even electronics in general forever. And in many ways for the better (even I as a hardcore Apple fan would argue that in some smaller ways things…

‘The Avengers’ on Netflix (finally!)

‘The Avengers’ on Netflix (finally!)

What are you waiting for! Go watch it! I’ve owned it via iTunes since the first day it was available, but if you’ve been waiting for something like this, then now is your lucky chance! I named the film my favorite from 2012 and I wrote a review of it, and of course Joe and I talked about it on episode 11 of The MovieByte Podcast. For a trip back into the far reaching depths of 2012, check out those resources before (or after) you watch The Avengers on Netflix.

But surely you aren’t still reading this as you’ve already queued up The Avengers on Netflix and sat down to watch with your big…

The Iron Man Is Onboard

The Iron Man Is Onboard

The box office this week is brought to you straight from Krypton since ‘Man of Steel’ took the number one spot. Laremy Legel thinks Spielberg and Lucas are wrong about the upcoming film industry implosion. ‘Man of Steel’ will “reboot” the Batman universe and will not tie in to Nolan’s batman world. Joss Whedon says Loki is not in ‘Avengers 2’. Netflix and Dreamworks have reached an agreement to produce original content. J.J. and George Lucas have not spoken about ‘Star Wars VII’. This may be a good thing. TJ reviewed ‘Man of Steel’ this past week and talked about it on The MovieByte Podcast. He as not pleased or amused, and he most certainly did not like the film. HBO Go and ESPN are now available on the Apple TV. Robert Downey Jr. has signed on for two more ‘Avengers’ films. Helena Bonham Carter has been cast as Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother. And of course, TJ gives the run down as to what you might like to see this weekend.

What to see: Weekend of June 21, 2013

What to see: Weekend of June 21, 2013

I have a sad. I still don’t get to see Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing. It’s infuriating, but it’s not playing anywhere around the Nashville area. I even opened up Fandango’s search parameters to within 100 miles. Nothing. I want to see it! This sort of thing makes it hard for me to know whether I should include it on my what to see list. I’ll just say that if it’s playing in your area you may want to see it.

Of course, with Monsters University and World War Z opening this weekend, it’s not like we lack anything to watch anyway, so carry on.

Some Cable Providers Not Allowing HBO Go on Apple TV

Some Cable Providers Not Allowing HBO Go on Apple TV
Appleinsider.com

In response, a few cable and satellite companies that already carry HBO and ESPN are refusing to authenticate mobile or set-top boxes for streaming. According to the publication, Charter Communications doesn’t authenticate HBO Go for Apple TV, while Dish won’t authenticate ESPN. Other providers like Comcast have similar restrictions for Roku.

One person with knowledge of the situation said, “Affiliates are always initially hesitant about things connected to the TV. They were nervous.”

Placing restrictions on your customers, not meeting their needs, making enemies of them always works…

‘The Smurfs 2’ Trailer

‘The Smurfs 2’ Trailer

The only question I really have is why on earth is this being made? It may be targeted at kids, but It looks atrocious, and it certainly does not look like the sort of humor I will want my kids to be mimicking.

As far as I can tell I’ll be skipping this one.

The evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants – and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs…

Helena Bonham Carter Will Be Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother

Helena Bonham Carter Will Be Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother
Germain Lussier - /Film

BrieflyKenneth Branagh‘s live-action Disney film, Cinderella, has just found its Fairy Godmother. Helena Bonham Carter will play the iconic role helping the title character (Lily James) fall in love with the prince (Richard Madden) in spite of the Wicked Stepmother (Cate Blanchett).

Oh yeah, I forgot there was an upcoming live action Cinderella. To say I’m thrilled would be a gross over-exaggeration. Let’s just say I am not sure if I care much about this film.

Also, Helena Bonham Carter as the “good guy” and Cate Blanchett as the “bad guy”. What will you tell me next? That there’s a…

Robert Downey Jr. Signs On For Two More ‘Avengers’ Films

Robert Downey Jr. Signs On For Two More ‘Avengers’ Films
Nikki Finke - Deadline

The news was announced a few minutes ago on Marvel.com. Robert Downey Jr reprises his role as Tony Stark in a 2-picture agreement for Marvel’s The Avengers 2 (May 1, 2015) and Marvel’s The Avengers 3 (undated). The sequel will start production on March 2014 led again by writer and directorJoss Whedon. Downey had been involved in tough negotiations with cheapskate Marvel as I’ve previously reported; now the question is which other Avengers 2 actors will solve their contract disputes.

I mean, we knew that Marvel was ultimately going to do whatever it took to get him, right? They would be…

I Will Say This Backwards

I Will Say This Backwards

TJ launches a new feature (in beta!) of The MovieByte Podcast, “TrailerByte”. The name makes it sound like more than it is. Basically, TJ and Joe just list several of the current trailer making the rounds and talk about them. Ashton Kutcher’s ‘JOBS’ has a new release date of August 16. Spielberg and Lucas are predicting the implosion of the film industry. Joss Whedon says that Loki will not be in ‘The Avengers 2’, which may show the cards for what is to come in ‘Thor: The Dark World’. Netflix and Dreamworks have arranged a deal to distribute new, original Dreamworks content. And the main review for this week is for ‘Man of Steel’. Joe liked it and TJ didn’t. Discussion ensues.
