Rick Santorum Named CEO of Movie Studio

Rick Santorum Named CEO of Movie Studio
Angie Han - /Film

Rick Santorum may not be the president of the United States, but he’s about to become the king of Hollywood. Or a Dallas-based, Christian version of it, anyway.

The former Pennsylvania senator has been named CEO of EchoLight Studios, a production company that aims to make “honest, uplifting content” like 2011′s Soul Surfer, only without “water[ing] down the truth.”

Hmm. Okay. I am certainly not Santorum’s biggest fan, but maybe he can do something cool here, who knows.

Specifically, that means movies like EchoLight’s first theatrical release The Redemption of Henry Myers, a Western…

How ‘Oblivion’ Should Have Ended

How ‘Oblivion’ Should Have Ended

Yes, this is from May 10. I’m a little behind the times. This highlights the fact that I’m not actually subscribed to these videos in any meaningful way (like RSS) so I can be aware when new ones come out. I must fix that.

Anyway, this was pretty good and though I liked the film, this does highlight some of the problems I had with the end fo the film. And, as usual, it’s funny. I always thought the end of that film was just a little problematic — both the way Jack got onto the alien ship thing, and the fact that only one of the other ones showed up. So watch this video, and don’t let it…

World War Z — Review

5 of 5 stars
World War Z

When a zombie pandemic begins sweeping the globe, retired U.N. special agent Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) finds himself in the unenviable position of trying to stop it.

A lesser man would point out that facing down ravenous undead hordes was most emphatically not in the original job description. But Gerry’s better than that. He may not be the best man for the job, but he’s probably the best man alive for the job - and he’s willing to take a shot at saving humanity if it secures his family refuge aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier.

Within hours, he’s on a flight to Camp Humphreys, a military base…

Mark Strong Rumored as Contender for Role of Lex Luthor

Mark Strong Rumored as Contender for Role of Lex Luthor
Alex Maidy - JoBlo

Cosmic Book News is claiming an exclusive that says director Zack Snyder wants British actor Mark Strong to play Luthor. Strong has prior comic book experience having played the villain in KICK-ASS as well as Sinestro in GREEN LANTERN. If Strong does get the part as Luthor, I would expect that to put the final nail in the coffin for Ryan Reynolds to play Hal Jordan in the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.

Strong would make an excellent Luthor. While I have a childhood connection to Gene Hackman as Luthor, his take on the villain never felt like much of a threat to Superman. Strong is physically more…

‘World War Z’ Sequel Is a Go.

‘World War Z’ Sequel Is a Go.
Germain Lussier - /Film

Over the past few weeks, Brad Pitt has been cautiously optimistic about a potential sequel to his new zombie film, World War Z. He knows there’s more story to tell and more parts of Max Brooks’ novel to explore, but he was unsure about how the public would embrace the film.

Well, after a $112 million opening weekend ($66 million in the US and $46 million international), which is also the biggest of Pitt’s career, Paramount has decided to move forward on a sequel to World War Z.

Well, you know, I’m hearing good things about this first film and the big opening is surely a huge…

Hans Zimmer, ‘Man of Steel’, and Drummers - Featurette

Hans Zimmer, ‘Man of Steel’, and Drummers - Featurette

As much as I did not like the film, and by the same token didn’t care for the music as much as I wanted to, I still find this featurette fun and fascinating. It’s definitely an interesting concept to pull a bunch of drummers together with the same idea as putting a string section together to give it a big, full sound. Frankly in listening to the score you don’t really think about it having drums in any traditional sense. Using what amounts to a “drum section” really did work well.

‘Monsters’ Scared Off the Box Office - Box Office Report for June 24

‘Monsters’ Scared Off the Box Office - Box Office Report for June 24

There is a clear winner for this weeks Box Office “scare off” (yeah, I’m not proud of myself for that one but it had to be done). But the other big film release this weekend wasn’t too far behind, but is it enough to propel World War Z to success? We’ll have to wait a couple more weekends to see about that.

#1 - Monsters University

Budget: N/A
Totals: $82 Million Domestic Opening Weekend / $54.5 Foreign Total / $136.5 Million Worldwide Total
Week Number: 1

As expected Monsters University has already brought in quite a haul, and I expect it will still have a pretty good weekend…

Six Clips from ‘RED 2’

Six Clips from ‘RED 2’

Have I mentioned that I’m looking forward to this one a lot?

Obviously returning to the franchise are Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker and John Malkovich. Newcomers are Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung Hun Lee, Brian Cox and Neal McDonough.

The first film was a lot of fun and I expect no different from this film. To speed us along in that way of thinking we have here six clips from the upcoming film.

RED 2 comes to theaters on July 19th.

‘Man of Steel’ and Morality

‘Man of Steel’ and Morality
Andrew Wheeler - Comics Alliance

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR MAN OF STEEL FOLLOW!

To begin at the end; the final confrontation between Superman and General Zod in Man of Steel is a source of considerable controversy. The fight ends when Zod tries to kill innocents and promises to kill everyone if Superman doesn’t stop him, and Superman accepts Zod’s ultimatum by snapping his neck.

Some might look at that scene and ask, “What else could Superman have done?” Others might offer alternative endings to the scene. It’s not a useful conversation. It’s the usual, “Who would win in a fight?” The answer is always that the outcome is…

‘Independence Day 2’ Does Not Feature Will Smith

‘Independence Day 2’ Does Not Feature Will Smith
ComingSoon.net

Following word this week of an official July 3, 2015 release date for 20th Century Fox’s Independence Day 2, director Roland Emmerich has dropped a few hints about what to expect from the much-anticipated sequel.

Will Smith cannot come back because he’s too expensive,” Emmerich told NY Daily News while promoting his latest, White House Down“but he’d also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much.”

I smell a box office bomb in the making… why do they do this? WHY? If you can’t get the band back together, go make something new! Blurgh.

Well, I suppose there is…
