‘World War Z’ “Shows Signs of Life”

‘World War Z’ “Shows Signs of Life”
Oliver Gettell - Los Angeles Times

Speculation has swirled ever since “World War Z”, the forthcoming zombie disaster movie starring and co-produced by Brad Pitt, was pushed from last winter to this summer by Paramount Pictures to allow for a wholesale rewrite and a reshoot of its final act. Such drastic changes so late in production rarely bode well for the success of a film, but some early reviews suggest “World War Z” might not end up dead—or undead—on arrival.

In a glowing review, Variety’s Scott Foundas says the film “emerges as a surprisingly smart, gripping and imaginative addition to the zombie-movie canon.” He…

ANNOUNCEMENT: Podcast Delayed

Hey guys, I have just learned that due to some unforeseen circumstances, my co-host will not be able to join me tonight. I am very sorry about that. We do try to maintain a regular schedule so that you will know when and where to join us — at the same time every week. But you know how life can be, things come up, situations arise, and circumstances must be dealt with.

Joe seemed in a hurry when I talked to him on the phone and did not say exactly what the situation is, but as soon as I am able to, I will let you all know when the podcast has been rescheduled for.

Thanks for your…

‘World War Z’ TV Spot

‘World War Z’ TV Spot

So I might as well get around to posting this even though, from what I can tell thus far, I am not at all interested in this film. I mean I can’t even really tell what it’s about so far. I get that maybe the mystery is supposed to be what is causing whatever it is that is happening, but I can’t even tell what is happening. All I can see in the trailers thus far is people climbing all over each other trying to run from something, shooting at nothing, etc. Am I blind, am I just missing something here, am I dense? Help me out in the comments guys!

Here’s the TV spot, and since I haven’t…

Behind the Scenes of ‘Fast 6’ End Sequence

Behind the Scenes of ‘Fast 6’ End Sequence

Fast & Furious 6 may have been a pretty stupid movie with a pretty stupid premise, and one of the stupidest ending action sequences of all time, but I’m still a sucker for these behind the scenes things that show how it was accomplished. I have to say that it did look real, despite the fact that there is no way on earth this scene could have actually taken place and that runway is the longest runway in the history of mankind since they were driving down that runway at full speed for about 10 minutes of the film. Stupid.

But in any event, it’s still fun to see how they did it.

‘The Wizard of Oz’ In IMAX 3D

‘The Wizard of Oz’ In IMAX 3D
Germain Lussier - /Film

The opportunity to see an all-time classic on the big screen should be taken whenever possible. Ideally, this happens at a repertory house where the original content and quality of the film is preserved, and sometimes (though less and less as 35mm gives way to DCP) even the format is the same. On special occasions, though, a film is so grand and adored it gets not only a big time restoration, but major release as well. Titanic comes to mind. Jurassic Park. And now, The Wizard of Oz can be added to the list.

The 1939 classic celebrates its 75 anniversary in 2014 and leading up to that,…

‘Man of Steel’ Easter Egg

‘Man of Steel’ Easter Egg
Kevin Jagernauth - The Playlist

MINOR(ish) SPOILERS FOR MAN OF STEEL FOLLOW.

“The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys,” Zack Snyder told Omelete (via Collider). Oh damn. Of course, the inevitable next question that followed was whether or not Batman and Superman were going to team up in any future movies, and as always, Snyder remained tight-lipped.

“I don’t know. Everything is interesting at this point. And don’t forget that Lex is out there, doing who knows what…,” he said, which at very least suggests that should “Man Of Steel Rises” or whatever happens, you can probably bet good money Lex…

Will Smith May Not Return to ‘MIB’

Will Smith May Not Return to ‘MIB’
Jason Mcdonald - The Playlist

When the “Men in Black” franchise proved that it still had legs after a strong third outing, it seemed inevitable that Sony would set their eyes on a fourth movie. In fact, a writer was tasked with gig of writing ”Men In Black 4” last month. The only real question was who would be returning?

Given that Tommy Lee Jones spent a majority of the third movie in the backseat, while Josh Brolin took over as perpetually grumpy Agent K, it seemed as if he was on his way out. However, while speaking with Collider about his recent movie “After Earth,” Will Smith revealed that he might not want to…

Two Clips from ‘Byzantium’

Two Clips from ‘Byzantium’

So, this film is looking pretty weird, and more so the more I learn about it. But, since we’ve been talking about it and I’ve already posted a few things about it I figured I might as well follow through with it, at least for now.

Watch these clips and you’ll see what I mean by the weirdness — especially the second clip where Saoirse Ronan’s character appears to meet herself and it’s the end of time or something. Pretty strange. I’m sure it will make more sense in the context of the story (one can only hope).
