Morning LOL — Damon Lindelof has Star Wars Ideas

Morning LOL — Damon Lindelof has Star Wars Ideas
Movie Line

Prometheus writer Damon Lindelof may not be writing Star Wars Episode VII, but he can still suggest plot points. On Thursday, FirstShowing.net debunked some pretty rampant and persistent speculation that 1952, the science-fiction project that Lindelof and Brad Bird are writing for the new owner of LucasFilm, Disney, was the code name for a new Star Wars trilogy. But just two days earlier, when rumors were still making the rounds, Lindelof took to his Twitter feed to suggest some Episode VII ideas that were better suited to a Robot Chicken Star Wars special. “Chewbacca’s great-great…

Did Pixar and Disney Switch Brains?

Did Pixar and Disney Switch Brains?
Film.com

Record scratch noise, what am I talking about? Well, just this, “Brave” — the story of an ancient princess, directed by a crew that had previously worked on “The Prince of Egypt” — was released by Pixar. Meanwhile, Andrew Stanton of Pixar fame was directing a Disney summer tentpole, “John Carter.” This weekend featured “Wreck-It Ralph,” with executive producer John Lasseter right there in the credits, the very fella who built Pixar Animation. Yes indeed, Disney made a film about a video game world where the characters were real (Hi, “Toy Story!”) while Pixar released a movie about a…

‘Cloud Atlas’ is Too Intellectual…

‘Cloud Atlas’ is Too Intellectual…
The Hollywood Reporter

“Of course the U.S. release was disappointing, but it hasn’t changed our release plans,” A Company topper Alexander van Dulmen told THR. “Cloud Atlas has a more intellectual approach and theEuropean audience is more open to movies where you have to think a bit.”

Either that or it was just stupid. But then, maybe I’m just one of those dumb Americans and don’t have any intelectual chops or something.

Whatever. I maintain my opinion on how awful this film is.

Zombie Apocalypse

Zombie Apocalypse

In this week’s episode of ‘The Wrap’ Joseph brings you a few of the highlights from the past week. Such as Joss Whedon’s political satire involving Mitt Romney and Zombies. Seriously, no matter what side of the political isle you are on, if you don’t laugh, you may not be human. Next Joseph highlights TJ’s review of ‘Cloud Atlas’. It’s safe to say that neither of them liked it, although TJ may have disliked it more. Also highlighted, Corey reviewed ‘Prometheus’ and didn’t think it was so great either. And of course Joseph highlights the big news of the week, Lucas Film has been acquired by Disney. This topic in fact sort of consumed MovieByte starting on Wednesday. And don’t forget that the ‘Red Dawn’ remake is coming up. Finally, Joseph highlights MovieByte’s TV and Netflix subscription giveaway. You don’t want to miss this one folks!

‘Revolution Revealed: Episode 6’

‘Revolution Revealed: Episode 6’

Revolution is definitely in the phase where they are showing us just how flawed our protagonists are. Aaron left his wife not long after the blackout and even if there was some sort of noble intention of doing that, you just don’t leave your wife! Charlie nearly killed someone because she thought her and her friends (not to mention brother) were more important than anything else. We found out a few episodes ago that Miles was the big head honcho of the Monroe Militia in years gone by and was one of the reasons such a corrupt organization was founded, not a kind or caring group, in fact they…

Significant Hurdles to More ‘Indiana Jones’

Significant Hurdles to More ‘Indiana Jones’
Entertainment Weekly

Well, it’s complicated. During a shareholders conference call on Tuesday, Disney chief Bob Iger said there were “some encumbrances” to monetizing Indiana Jones. It appears that is a bit of an understatement. EW has confirmed that Paramount Pictures, heretofore the franchise’s sole Hollywood home, retains the rights to distribute any future Indiana Jones movies, as well as all the rights (from distribution to DVD/Blu-ray) for the previous four Indy films. That alone wouldn’t prevent a fifth Indiana Jones from happening — Paramount holds similar distribution rights for several Marvel Studios…

TNG HD Season 2 Blu-ray Details
TrekMovie.com

Adding to the exclusivity and collectability of the Blu-ray release is an HD, “Extended Cut” of “The Measure of a Man,” this includes deleted scenes and different angles from the broadcast version. The original version of the episode is included, as well as a “Hybrid Extended Cut,” combining the high-definition on-air version of “The Measure of a Man” with video of the extra material taken from an early VHS rough-cut of the episode that was in the writer’s (Melinda Snodgrass) archives.

This is awesome! Despite the fact that Seasons 1 and 2 turned out some real trash, The Measure of a…

Maximizing Its Value

Maximizing Its Value
Marco.org

Now that’s what fans want to hear: a major, well-loved, culturally significant creative work was sold to global lines of business so they can maximize its value.

Translation: they’re going to beat Star Wars to death even more than George Lucas did, extracting every possible penny out of it until there’s no more money to be made. And that’s probably a long way off.

Well that’s a depressing way to look at it. And probably the most accurate too.

And I figured we’d get the depressing stuff out of the way this morning.
