Solving ‘Looper’ Mysteries

6. Why is it essential for a looper to close his own loop?

This is another one of those questions Johnson had answered in his head but didn’t put in the movie. In fact, he even conceived a scene with Abe addressing it but never shot it.

“People in the future, all they know about time travel is to be afraid of it. So they’re trying to keep it as tight as possible. So the initial reason they set it up this way was to keep the causality loop as tight as possible,” Johnson said. Because, for example, if someone else kills your older self and you have to exist with your own murderer for 30…

Red Dawn Clip

Red Dawn Clip

I have to admit I have not yet been very aware of this film or paid much attention until I saw this clip. But I think I may be interested now. First here’s the official synopsis from the Apple Trailers page:

In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky—shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding…

Interview with ‘Revolution’s’ Elizabeth Mitchell

Interview with ‘Revolution’s’ Elizabeth Mitchell
TV Line

The following contains spoilers from this Monday’s episode of NBC’s Revolution.

In just its second episode, NBC’s Revolution this Monday night answered a huge question that was on many a fan’s mind: Why would you hire the always awesome Elizabeth Mitchell to appear only in flashbacks?

Answer: You don’t, because Charlie’s mother, Rachel Matheson, is in fact alive and well. Or at least alive, based on a reveal that capped Week 2 of the adventure drama.

And yet with that not-entirely-surprising twist comes new questions, such as: Where and for how long has Rachel been held captive? What…

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ — First True Gamer Movie

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ — First True Gamer Movie
Movie Line

Everyone is either looking forward to Wreck-It Ralph or still refers to video games as “those beeping boximacallits.”  There are no other options. Gaming movies have a bad reputation, which is weird, because, despite what you may have heard and read, they have yet to materialize. We’ve seen dozens of action movies that share the titles of video games and little else, and run from reprehensible to ridiculously profitable — sometimes in the same series. We’ve also watched feature-length advertisements for video games that we’ve paid to see in hopes that there might be a movie in there…

Excited for LooperYou should beRian Johnson‘s return to the big screen featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Paul Dano and a whole bunch of time-travelling awesomeness is fantastic. Lots of new posters, videos and more have been popping up leading up towards the September 28 release and now two videos of behind the scenes footage have come online.

Getting geared up! Beware there are probably some spoilers here if you are looking for them. I just loved watching the behind the scenes footage and didn’t really see anything that was plot revealing to…

This is a movie starring an old coot, clearly made for old coots of all ages who like their movies served up with a little bit of story, a little bit of character and a soupcon of schmaltz. Yet it ends up just on the right side of the line between crowd-pleasing and pandering. Even if Eastwood’s grumpy old man routine wears you down – it’s perhaps too much of a not-very-good thing – there are lots of terrific second bananas, including Amy Adams, John Goodman and Justin Timberlake, to counter all that self-conscious squinting, scowling and grunting.

The review is largely in favor of the…

Wants for ‘Pirates 5’

Wants for ‘Pirates 5’
IGN Entertainment

The big question is when Pirates 5 will get underway. Last week, the website /Film reported that filming is scheduled to begin in Puerto Rico this November, with both Johnny Depp and On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall back in action. However, Moviehole soon rebutted the rumor, with their source saying a script hasn’t even been written. At the same time, that source teased the return of a major character for part 5.

Regardless of whether either of these rumors are true, we expect it’s only a matter of time before Disney officially confirms the next sequel. But what can they do to…

Obsessed With Kirk

Obsessed With Kirk
The Incomparable 107

We take on one of our favorite movies, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” while also acknowledging the flaws that make it all the more lovable. Topics include: How Genesis is the galaxy’s worst Kickstarter project; Why it’s always important to count the planets, especially at Ceti Alpha; The size of the Botany Bay library and why it makes Khan so mad at Kirk; Why Scott’s email is more secure than the Reliant; The real name of Khan’s right-hand man; and how Spock’s death solves Kirk’s mid-life crisis. Also, we scientifically prove that “Wrath of Khan” is better than Star Wars.

As a…
