‘Jupiter Ascending’ Abruptly Moved from July of This Year to February of 2015

‘Jupiter Ascending’ Abruptly Moved from July of This Year to February of 2015
Pamela McClintock — The Hollywood Reporter

At the 11th hour, Lana and Andy Wachowski‘s sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending is being pushed back from July 18 to Feb. 6, 2015.

Yeah, we know that all good films are released in February… all good films… Sigh, this does not bode well.

On the other hand:

To boot, the February corridor is one of the quietest of the year, although Hollywood studios and exhibitors are trying to change that. Warners released Lego Movie in February, when it opened to a massive $69.1 million. It went on to gross $461.9 million worldwide.

This is true, but I definitely died a little on the inside on hearing this…

‘Stargate’ Movie Reboot is Now a Thing

‘Stargate’ Movie Reboot is Now a Thing
Mike Flemming Jr. — Deadline

Big day for reboots. First it was Cliffhanger, and now MGM and Warner Bros. announced they are teaming with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin to create a re-imagined trilogy based on the sci-fi hit Stargate, one of the biggest titles in the MGM library. Emmerich, who directed and co-wrote the original film with Devlin, is on board to direct this one, with Devlin producing. Those two are already hard at work on a new version of Independence Day at Fox.

Sigh. See, here’s the thing: I don’t know too many Stargate fans who are really big fans of Roland Emmerich’s original film. Most fans I know…

‘The Shack’ Will Star Oprah, Forrest Whitaker, and Idris Elba

‘The Shack’ Will Star Oprah, Forrest Whitaker, and Idris Elba
Morgan Lee — Christian Post

Earlier this week, The Tracking Board reported that Elba, who stars in the television series Luther and was recently seen in Thor: The Dark World and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom could be cast as the lead. It did not specify which part Oprah could be given, although the main character, Mackenzie Allen Phillips, encounters three versions of God while in the shed, one of them Papa, an African-American woman.

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

The two other members of the Trinity who Phillips meets are Jesus, a Jewish Carpenter, and Sarayu, a woman of unclear Asian descent whom…

The Talented Bob Hoskins Acting on Blue Screen for ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’

The Talented Bob Hoskins Acting on Blue Screen for ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’

While it’s not entirely out of the ordinary for someone to pass away at the age of 70, it can still be a pretty sad event and my sympathies go out to his family. We have indeed lost a great actor.

If you want to see just how great we’re talking about here, this video of him acting at a sequence from Who Framed Roger Rabbit with nothing but blue screen around him should give you a pretty good idea of what he was capable of. I just don’t know how he did it.

Bob Hoskins, who is probably most recognizable for his role in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, is dead at 71.

Hoskins typically portrayed salty, man-of-the-people characters. His most recent work was on Snow White and the Huntsman where he played Muir, and in the Neverland TV series where he played the iconic Smee, a role he had previously done in the film Hook.

Hoskins was nominated for an OSCAR for his role as George in the 1986 film Mona Lisa co-starring Robbie Coltrane and Michael Caine. He won both the BAFTA and the Golden Globe that year for the same role.

Well that’s some bummer…

Pixar’s ‘Newt’ Cancelation, Cars, The Incredibles, and more.
Max Nicholson - IGN

So what was the real reason Pixar canceled Newt? Well, the animation company’s president Ed Catmull revealed in a recent article just why director Gary Rydstrom’s long-gestating animated feature never saw the light of day.

As part of a series of conversations with Fast Company to promote his new book Creativity Inc., Catmull said of the failed project, “Newt was another unlikely idea that wasn’t working. When we gave it to somebody new [Pete Docter, director of Up], he said, ‘I’ll do it, but I have another idea altogether, which I think is better.’ And we thought it was better too. That was…
