McQuarrie to Possibly Helm Next Mission Impossible

McQuarrie to Possibly Helm Next Mission Impossible
Deadline

After directing Tom Cruise in Jack ReacherChristopher McQuarrie is poised to take on the next installment of Cruise’s signature tentpole. I’m told that McQuarrie is the choice to helm the fifth Mission: Impossible film that is in the early stages of being put together by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. They will hire writers before making it official, but he’s the guy that Cruise and JJ Abrams want.

M:I-5 is a big priority for the studio after the Brad Bird-directed Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol grossed just under $700 million worldwide. McQuarrie, who won the Oscar…

‘Star Wars: Episode 7’ Story Finished By ‘Toy Story 3’ Writer

‘Star Wars: Episode 7’ Story Finished By ‘Toy Story 3’ Writer
Screen Rant

With much bated breath we have waited to learn who will write the next three Star Wars films. Episode VII was announced for 2015, and it has been said that Disney intends to release many other episodes to follow.

Now it’s been made known who is responsible for the story and script for at least the next three films: Michael Arndt. Lucasfilm has confirmed that Michael is writing the Episode VII script and a treatment for VIII and IX as well.

Vulture has been told by its “informed sources” that such a 40–50 page treatment has indeed been finished, by none other than Oscar-winner Michael…

Serious Adaptation of ‘Superman’

Serious Adaptation of ‘Superman’
LA Times - Zack Snyder Interview

It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What…

‘The Hobbit’ Streaming Soundtrack

‘The Hobbit’ Streaming Soundtrack

The Hobbit may not be coming out for another month, but we’ve got the full soundtrack by Howard Shore right here. As far as I can tell, Empire Online first posted this player widget.

Due to copyright concerns you can’t skip around to different portions or tracks in the music, but it’s still a fun listen.

Beginning December 10th, the Soundtrack will be available for purchase in both a standard edition and a deluxe edition. I’d wager it will be worth owning regardless of how the film turns out. I’ve only listened to the first few minutes and I already love it. Howard Shore has returned…

‘The Host’ Trades Vampires for Aliens

‘The Host’ Trades Vampires for Aliens

It looks like Stephanie Meyer’s new book, The Host, is getting a feature film. Not surprising given the success of the film adaptations of her Twilight series.

I do have to say, I have some interest in this film, though it also looks like it may have a cheesy love story it in as well (understand I’m coming from a perspective of not having read the books and knowing nothing about the plot except what I see in the trailer here).

Also, aliens taking over a human body reminds me a bit of the Goa’uld from Stargate SG1, right down to the glowing eyes. Maybe Meyer is a fan?

Anyway, time will…

Darth Vader to Rise from the Ashes?

Darth Vader to Rise from the Ashes?
Express.co.uk

Following news that Disney has bought the rights to the lucrative sci-fi franchise and plans to make at least three more movies, industry insiders say the evil Vader will grace the big screen again.

“He’s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible,” explains a film mole.

“The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films.”

Well, I made it all the way to Tuesday without posting Star Wars news…

Also, keep in mind this is a notoriously unreliable British Tabloid. The only reason I’m linking it is to voice my opinion on this…

‘Warm Bodies’ Trailer

‘Warm Bodies’ Trailer

Normally, I wouldn’t post something like this — I would consider it beneath my notice. But this was so bad and corny it was a laugh riot.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully expect this film to be really bad. But here it is for your amusement. Also, I don’t want to hear about how bad the Twilight series is anymore because this looks to be far, far worse.

‘Lego’ Casts Liam Neeson

‘Lego’ Casts Liam Neeson
FilmoFilia.com

Alison Brie, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Nick Offerman have joined the previously announced Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Chris Pratt and Morgan Freeman to the Warner Bros and Village Roadshow’s Lego feature 3D film, Lego: Piece of Resistance.

Pratt is voice-starring as Emmet, a regular Lego mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as the key to saving the world, the mythical Master Builer. He’s drafted into a quest to stop an evil tyrant – but he’s not ready.

Wait, Wait, WAIT! Is this a thing? Is there *really* a LEGO movie being made?

Dwarves Beat Vampires and British Spies

Dwarves Beat Vampires and British Spies
Film.com

James Bond and Bella Swan just got beat up by a bunch of dwarves.

Online tickets are now available for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” (in no less than five different screening formats) and so far it looks like pretty much everyone on the planet is getting ready for a return trip to Middle-earth.

Tickets went on sale on Wednesday this week and Bilbo and friends are already shattering records. The film accounted for 33% of the day’s sales on Fandango, knocking “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ off the top spot, which had been at No. 1 since Oct. 1.

Well, what do you know about that?

‘The Last Stand’ Trailer

‘The Last Stand’ Trailer

“How are ye, Sheriff?” “Old.”

No kidding! And he still can’t act. Still.

Seriously, this movie looks beyond stupid, which I admit may make it worthwhile seeing in itself. Sometimes — just every so often — if a movie is stupid enough its almost kind of fun in a mocking sort of way.
